The Feast of Overflow

They say the age of toil is ending soon That steel and code will harvest beneath the moon A world of "sustainable abundance" they claim Where no one works, and no one knows their name If the curse is lifted by a machine's cold hand And costless bread covers all the land Tell me, shepherd, what is left for us to be? If we don't sweat, are we truly free?

We stand in the wilderness, five thousand strong The day is fading, and the shadows are long The world says "Send them away, there is nothing here" But the Provider is whispering, "Draw near."

From scarcity to superabundance From the barren dust to the Green Grass dance Grain for the body, New Wine for the soul And the Oil of the Spirit to make us whole! He looks to Heaven, He breaks the bread By the hand of God, the thousands are fed Twelve baskets over, the cup runs dry To the overflow, where we satisfy!

Joel saw it coming through the tears of the past "No more reproach," the shame is gone at last The locusts have fled, the restoration begins Not by our hustle, but by the Grace that wins Jesus stands where the hungry people wait He doesn't count the pennies or calculate the weight He blesses the little, and it multiplies wide A banquet table on the mountainside.
