I Cannot Come Down

Nehemiah 6:3 • Luke 9:62

High noon on the wall, dust in my eyes Mortar and stone beneath the scorching skies I see the riders coming, kicking up the sand Messengers of chaos with a treaty in their hand They’re calling from the valley, the "Plain of Ono" floor Saying "Come on down, Nehemiah, we don't need to war" They want a little talk, just a compromise or two But I see the trap, and I know just what to do

They say "Come down, come down, let’s meet halfway" But halfway is the bottom where the dead men lay!

And I can't come down! I won’t trade my glory for your parley in the town I’ve got the high ground, brother, and I’m standing tall The Lord is in the fortress, and the devil's in the stall No compromise! No leveled ground! I am doing a Great Work, and I won’t come down!

Now shift the scene to the field and the furrow No time to rest, no time to borrow Got my hands on the wood, got the blade in the soil The Kingdom is a harvest that demands the toil Jesus said the plowman with the wandering eye Will carve a crooked line and let the harvest die Don’t look at the smoke of the bridges you burn There’s no going back, there is no return!

It’s the Geometry of Grace, can you feel the weight? Vertical focus! (Keep the wall straight!) Linear drive! (Don't hesitate!) If you look back now, you seal your fate. Nehemiah finished. Jesus finished too. The only question left is... what about you?

I am doing a Great Work! (Hey!) And I can't come down! I won’t trade my glory for your parley in the town I’ve got the high ground, brother, and I’m standing tall The Lord is in the fortress, and the devil's in the stall No compromise! No leveled ground! I am doing a Great Work...

I cannot come down. - Fit for the Kingdom. - Finished.
