To Build Us Up

Numbers 11:29 • 1 Corinthians 14:3

Moses cried in the desert heat "Lord, let Your Spirit fall on every street!" A mighty wind, a rushing fire, Set every eager heart afire. But sometimes joy, a joyful sound, Can lose the ground where grace is found.

Oh, let the Word rise clear and true, For me, for you, for me, for you. To build us up, to ease the pain, To bring us comfort in the rain. Not just a show, a dazzling light, But love that makes the darkness bright. That's the sound the Spirit makes, For all our sakes.

Some chase the fire, the mystic tongue, A song for angels, beautifully sung. But if no ear can understand, What good's the truth across the land? We seek the signs, the grand display, Forget the path that lights the way. While brothers fight, and love grows cold, What story's truly to be told?

It ain't just visions from on high, Or telling secrets 'neath the sky. It's speaking truth, a gentle plea, A challenge, friend, for you and me. A Word from God, to make us whole, To touch the mind, to stir the soul. For lasting fruit, a steadfast climb, Not just a moment out of time.

Oh, let the Word rise clear and true, For me, for you, for me, for you. To build us up, to ease the pain, To bring us comfort in the rain. Not just a show, a dazzling light, But love that makes the darkness bright. That's the sound the Spirit makes, For all our sakes.

So let the Spirit flow and move, With purpose clear, and constant love. To build us up, to make us strong, Where every voice truly belongs. Yeah, truly belongs... for edification... And comfort... and love...
