The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. (Psalm 92:12)
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (John 15:5)
Charles Spurgeon

Where do good works come from?

Good works cannot come from a depraved human nature, but only from a real conversion produced by the Spirit of God. They also come from a constant spiritual influence and union with Christ. Good works are gifts from God and cannot be produced by an unjust, unsaved, and ungodly person. Therefore, there can be little merit in them. Read more...

Comments:

Francisco Diaz S.: Let us do a daily examination of conscience, reviewing our actions and past works. Let us analyze what we have done well, well, average, badly, or very badly. Let us accept that we have failed and done improper things or have defects that we have not yet overcome, and in this way let us try with all our strength to be better every day. In this way we will be growing in Spirit and thus getting closer to the grace of the Lord. Let us not confuse bad habits with good works, let us be authentic.
Thank you for sharing your reflections, Francisco. It's important to remember that, as Charles Spurgeon mentions in his devotional, good works do not arise from our depraved human nature, but rather from a true conversion brought about by the Spirit of God. It's true that we must examine our actions and be honest about our mistakes and shortcomings in order to seek to improve every day. As John 15:5 says, "I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me, and I in them, bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing." It's by uniting ourselves with Christ and seeking to be in communion with Him that we can bear fruit in our lives and reflect His grace to others. Keep seeking to grow in the Spirit and be authentic in your Christian walk!
Alberto Fletes: I'm a faithful reader of your reflections, but I suggest you go back to the font size you had before; it's now too small and difficult to read for those of us who are older.
Thank you for your comment, Alberto. I'm sorry the font size made it difficult to read. I'll take note of your suggestion for future posts. Let us remember, as Charles Spurgeon mentions in his devotional, that good works cannot arise from our depraved nature, but rather come from a true conversion brought about by the Spirit of God. In Psalm 92:12 we are reminded that "The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon." Let us maintain our faith in Christ and seek to grow in grace and in the knowledge of His Word every day. May the light of the Lord guide your path!
maria: blessing for brothers
