Embracing work as a path of discipleship

God revealed himself as a worker, and our work is an opportunity for discipleship and practical expression of our faith. Even seemingly unremarkable tasks have meaning, and the work before us at this moment is the most important. Let us seek God's guidance and help, and allow our work to mold us into more fully formed followers of Christ. Read more...

Comments:

Sabino Marroquina López.: The man is forced to work for his livelihood, the only ones who did not have time to work were: the Tribe of Levi, because their time was to preach the word of God and Vivian from the Tithe amen.
Thanks for your comment Sabine! Indeed, for many of us work is a necessary way of earning a living. But it can also be more than that. As Ernst Diehl said in his devotional, "work and service have great value in the eyes of [God]." In Genesis 2:2, we can read that God worked on creation and then rested. This suggests that work is part of our humanity and that it can be a form of worship. As Colossians 3:23 says, "Whatever you do, do it with your heart, as for the Lord and not for men." In other words, we can find meaning and purpose in our work by doing it with our hearts set on pleasing God. What do you think?
Francisco Diaz S.: Every day when we begin our daily tasks, let us put ourselves in the hands of the Lord and offer our work as an offering to the Lord for the glory of God and our well-being.- Work dignifies no matter how humble our labors are.- Greetings and blessings Pastor Ernst D.

David Wang: As we enter the summer months here in the US, I water flower pots around our house. There are 13 of them. Yesterday I was watering them, and saw for the first time that the quality of this activity depends on whether I am doing it as worship, or doing it to check off my daily to-do list. When I did it as worship, I took my time rather than rushing through it. I intentionally gave attention to each pot, meditating that these flowers are purer and more beautiful than I am, and that I must respect their simple beauty as a beauty of God. And then the activity of watering them became worshipful. Later on, I told my wife that my watering the flower pots became a kind of liturgy. The liturgy of watering the flower pots. So, yes, "whatever you do, do it with your heart, as for the Lord and not for men." Amen.
Thank you for sharing that beautiful reflection, David! As you mentioned, even in the simplest and most mundane tasks, we can find meaning and purpose when we do them with the intention of honoring God. As Ernst Diehl said, "In our work our true identity is forged and our beliefs are transformed into action." When we see our work as an opportunity to grow as followers of Jesus, every moment and every effort can become a form of worship. May God help us to see our daily life as a path to holiness. Blessings!
Alba Fuentes: Thanks for the meditation, they are a blessing for those of us who receive them, secular work is a blessing and we must do it as for God, so it will be more rewarding and we must take advantage to evangelize our co-workers with the word of God and with our testimony.
Thank you for your comment Alba! As you rightly mention, our secular work is not only a form of livelihood, but it can also be an opportunity to share God's love with those around us. In Colossians 3:23, we are urged to do everything we do as if it were for the Lord and not for men. If we work with this mindset, our actions can serve as a powerful witness to those around us. May God help us to bring His love and truth to our co-workers and those around us. Blessings!
Gustavo Martinez Afanador : Spiritual work must first be done with our lives so that we are almost on a par with powerful and firm faith and demonstrating that we are children of the Most High, because one of the important tasks of our lives is to carry the message of salvation out of love for the souls. Blessings
Thanks for your comment, Gustavo! As you well mention, our spiritual work begins with our own life and our personal testimony. By living according to the principles and values of our faith, we can demonstrate God's love and grace to those around us. And as you said, an important task of our life is to share the message of salvation with others. In Mark 16:15, Jesus urges us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. May God give us the strength and wisdom to bring His message of love and salvation to all who need it. Blessings!
Julio Saturnino Ardura López : Very good teaching, in the years that I have been in the Gospel, I had not understood 100% 💯, the first 2 chapters of Genesis. The Creator himself gave us the example that with work everything is achieved. It reminded me that when we are born and grow up in the family environment, as children we see our parents work, so we can have daily bread 🥖. Thank you very much and many blessings. This teaching has been a great blessing. God bless you Amen
Thanks for sharing your opinion Julio! It is true that we often overlook the importance of work and how God himself gave us the example with his own work of creation. As you mentioned, our parents and relatives also teach us from an early age that work is necessary to provide our daily needs. But beyond this, we can find meaning and purpose in our work by seeing it as a way to serve God and others. May God guide us in our daily work and help us find purpose and meaning in it. Blessings!
