Peacemakers

Psalms 147:14 • Matthew 5:9

Standing on the edge of the turning year Caught between the hope and the sudden fear Wondering what the winter wind might blow Into the unknown places where we go But we don’t walk empty into the cold We have a promise, ancient and bold The Architect has drawn the plans complete To fill us with the very finest wheat

He makes peace within your borders He sets the guard around your door We are the sons, and we are the daughters Called to heal the hurting floor Blessed are the hands that mend the tear Blessed are the ones who draw the near Oh, blessed are the peacemakers The children of God are here

We sit and feast at the Father’s board Not just to hoard the grace we’ve stored But to join the business of the family To break the chains and set the captive free I may not reach the nations far away Or stop the wars that fill the news today But I can build a sanctuary where I stand And offer peace with an open hand

So put down the distractions, look in her eyes Hear the heart beneath the compromise And silence the worry, the unspoken dread With words of respect and the trust we spread Here in the kitchen, here in the hall Let the walls be strong, let the mercy fall Safe in the providing, safe in the love Reflecting the peace from the Father above

He makes peace within your borders He sets the guard around your door We are the sons, and we are the daughters Called to heal the hurting floor Blessed are the hands that mend the tear Blessed are the ones who draw the near Oh, blessed are the peacemakers The children of God are here

Fill us up, till we overflow With the finest wheat, let the hunger go From the edge of the year to the end of the day Let us walk in the Peacemaker's way Peace in our borders... Peace in our homes... Children of God.
