I told him it's not that He is a punisher; it's that if, knowing the word, we do what we shouldn't, we don't fear God, and we experience consequences for disobedience. We have many examples in the word, such as the disobedience of His chosen people. God loves us, but we must be obedient in preaching and sharing the word. The Holy Spirit will do the same, so that they may be converted and continue to help them in knowing the word, so that God's purposes may be fulfilled.
