Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses: (Joshua 20:2)
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27)

Shelter for all weather

The church is meant to be a place of refuge for sinners who seek God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Just as God commanded Joshua to establish cities of refuge for murderers, the church becomes a city of refuge when Jesus is the center of all that it does and envisions. However, there are some who come to the church looking for refuge for convenience or to acquire a new identity, rather than for Christ. The difference between the cities of refuge established by Joshua and the Church of the Savior of the World is that in the latter, even murderers who are found guilty in the world can be forgiven and find salvation through the grace of Jesus. The church must also be a refuge for good soldiers of Christ who may fall in spiritual warfare, providing love and grace for the wounded who seek comfort and help. Read more...

Enrique Meneses Muñoz : Only in you do I find peace my GOD. Hallelujah.
Enrique Meneses Muñoz, your comment reflects a great truth. In God we can find the true peace that passes all understanding. As Faustino de Jesús Zamora Vargas mentions in his devotional, Jesus Christ is the one who leaves us his peace and the church can become a refuge for those who seek that peace. Let us remember the words of Jesus in John 14:27: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you." In the midst of any situation, in God we will find the peace we need. Hallelujah for that peace that only comes from Him!
Carlos A. Borja Flores: I continue to reflect on these devotionals. As Faustino Zamora Vargas mentions: "The church does not produce peace, but rather the presence of the Spirit in the lives of its members. The church becomes a city of refuge when Jesus is the center of everything and protects the helpless. The "refugees" "For convenience they do not find peace in the church." "Truly, one should go to church to seek God and meet his son Jesus Christ. He is peace." God continue to bless you
Carlos A. Borja Flores, thank you for sharing your reflections. It is true that the presence of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers is what brings the peace that passes all understanding. By focusing on Jesus Christ as the center of our lives, the church becomes a refuge for those seeking to find comfort and protection. It is important to remember that true peace is found in God and his Son Jesus Christ. May God continue to bless you on your path of reflection and search for His peace. May His peace be with you always!
