Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain? (Jeremiah 2:5)

It seems to me that, if it were so reprehensible, God himself would have spoken out about it, just as he did against banality, lust, the love of money and the lack of love.
