The valley of our disturbances

SUMMARY: The word for today is "anathema" from Joshua Chapter 7. The story tells of the hidden sin of Achan, who took items from the anathema after God had given the order not to touch anything. Achan's sin caused the people of Israel to lose the next battle, and he was eventually discovered and punished. The valley of Achor represents the consequences of our wrong decisions and the destructive results of our desires and passions. James chapter 1 verses 13-15 explain that sin starts with a desire, which can lead to a pregnancy of sin, ultimately leading to death. We need to be obedient to God's direct authority and not let our desires for material wealth or other passions lead us astray.

The Valley of Achor is a place where we learn that abandoning the will of God to live our own will leads to despair, shame, and defeat. Our sins affect everyone around us and can lead to easy defeats. We need to confess our sins and turn away from them to obtain mercy from God. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin if we walk in the light. We need to treat sin as sin and take radical attitudes towards it to be victorious in our lives. God wants us to be holy and victorious in the place where we once fell. We have a lawyer in Jesus Christ who can forgive our sins if we confess them. We are all sinners, but we can be cleansed by the blood of Jesus if we walk in the light.

We are all sinners, but if we walk in the light of Jesus Christ, His blood cleanses us from all sin. Confess your hidden sins to God and ask for His forgiveness to win the battle against sin.

The word for today is found in Joshua Chapter 7: But the children of Israel committed a transgression regarding the anathema; for Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zera, of the tribe of Judah, took from the anathema; and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel;

2 Afterwards Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which was next to Bet-aven towards the east of Bet-el; and he spoke to them saying: Go up and spy out the land. And they went up and recognized Ai.
