Good and mercy

SUMMARY: God's mercy is an eternal attribute that is actively shown through His actions towards His people. As His followers, we are called to be moved with mercy and do things for the benefit of those in need. Jesus taught the importance of forgiving others through a parable in Matthew 18:23-35. May the Spirit guide us to live a life that glorifies God and pleases Him in all we do.

In the Old Testament several Hebrew words are used that contain the ideas of mercy (be merciful, have mercy, benign etc.) Mercy is one of the eternal attributes of God; it is infinite and inexplicable. God has always dealt with man according to his mercy. Nothing we do will change his heart of mercy. This is a truth that strengthens our faith in the Lord and should encourage us every day to desire to be merciful as our father is.

The Bible is oriented to reveal the face of God to men. The very life of Jesus Christ on earth was a manifestation of the incomparable and immeasurable love of our God.

God's mercy is not passive, it is active. God is moved to perform actions that are beneficial to his people, it is not that he looks at us in a difficult situation and only laments, he strips his arm of mercy and does things in favor of us and this should be an example so that we do not let's look at a need in the lives of our brothers and sisters and just express a simple expression of: I'm sorry, I was very sorry. As God's people we have to be moved with mercy and do things for the benefit of the needy.

After having had a conversation with his disciples, the Lord Jesus approached him and asked him "how many times will I forgive my brother for sinning against me?" Through a parable in Matthew 18: 23-35 he explained the importance of forgiving men their offenses, that is, the importance of having mercy on their debtors. The man in the parable was blessed to be forgiven but he did not have the compassion and mercy to do the same with his fellow servant, so the king gave him the punishment he deserved.

My prayer is that the renewing spirit of our God guides us each day to live a life that glorifies our God, bearing witness to please him in everything we do.
