Charles Spurgeon

Charles Spurgeon

Charles Haddon Spurgeon, (1834 - 1892) was a British Baptist minister. He is still known by the people as the "Prince of Preachers". In addition, throughout his life, Spurgeon evangelized around 10 million people and often preached 10 times a week in different places.

Within a year 200,000 copies of his sermons were distributed at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. His sermons were translated into twenty languages. Over time Spurgeon published 3,561 sermons. Today his sermons number 63 volumes, enough to read a different sermon every day for ten years. Today, there are more books and writings by Spurgeon than by any other Christian writer in church history.

Both his father and grandfather were Puritan pastors, who raised him in a Christian home. It was not until January 1850 that he made a profession of faith in a Methodist Church.
