Summary: The story of miraculous fishing and Peter's call to ministry teaches us about three spiritual positions in our relationship with God and the world. Firstly, we must separate ourselves from the world and seek times of retreat to deepen our relationship with God. Secondly, we must go deeper and surrender completely to God, allowing Him to sanctify us through a process of brokenness and exposure to the cross. Finally, we must go out to sea with God, reaching a level of complete surrender and submission to His will, where we can see His glory in a more powerful way. This process of growth and service requires a willingness to give everything to God and to be used by Him in miraculous ways.

Since Peter's boat is in three positions, we too can assume three spiritual positions with respect to the world and with respect to God. At the beginning of the narrative, the boat is on the shore itself, it is where the crowd is with all its needs and all its pressing situations. After that the Lord says to Peter: Peter, move the boat a little so that I can separate myself from the crowd and head towards it. And finally, when the Lord finishes addressing the crowd, he asks Peter to row out to sea, to enter the boat at a level that is still further from the shore, and in that position of rowing out to sea, the Lord shows him his Glory to Pedro and his companions.

He shows his divinity, he shows them a supernatural dimension, he teaches them that He is something much more than just any rabbi, He is God Himself, capable of doing miracles that no other human being can do. you will find it on the shore. For us to be used by God we have to separate ourselves from the shore.

The shore for me is where the people are, where many times there are as many Christians with their efforts and their struggles as the rest of the crowd. If you want to enter into a use of God in your life, you have to separate yourself a little, that means: you have to look for times of retreat, times to meditate on the Word of the Lord. That way then God can use your life, and speak through you, and do wonderful things in your life.

No Christian will be used effectively by God unless he does not seek that level of separation from the cares of the world. The apostle John has said that friendship with the world is enmity with God. If you want to be used by God, you have to consecrate your life, you have to give yourself more, you have to pray more, know the Word of the Lord better, and let God go polishing you, working you, sanctifying you, and for me that is a bit like separating. a bit from the edge, separating from the world, so that God can then use us in a wonderful way.

But then things don't stop there. God will want you to go to a deeper level still. As the Lord Jesus Christ tells Peter, now go out to sea, separate yourself completely, where you may not even be able to see the shore, for there then I will show you my Glory. If God wants to use you in a truly momentous and powerful way, there has to be a still higher level of surrender. You have to die to the Self, you have to separate completely. God will have to go through a process of very deep sanctification.

Generally, this process of "total" sanctification will imply brokenness, it will imply an exposure to the cross, with all its pains and sufferings that will crucify you in a sense of your own. flesh, and then they will allow you to be able to hear God's voice on a much deeper level. That is to say, do not simply stay at the point of being a Christian who has sanctified his life to a certain level, but go deeper still, let God use you more powerfully, give everything to Him, ask Him to pass you on to through a process of brokenness, of showing you his glory in a more powerful way.

When Peter sees the Lord Jesus Christ perform that incredible miracle, then he understands. He saw something there that no one else on the shore could see, and that was because he let himself in on a deeper level. He submitted his reasoning to the Lord, although he had tried to fish all night, he had not caught anything, but he said in Your Word Lord I am going to cast the net, if You say so I am going to do it. A level of crucifixion and total surrender of his life. That is the level to which we all have to go if we want to be used by the Lord. From shore, to parting from shore, to go out to sea with the Lord Jesus Christ. This meditation is part of a series of five short messages on miraculous fishing and the apostle Peter's call to ministry . In them, Dr. Miranda discusses practical aspects of Christian growth and service:

  1. God wants to work with you and your resources
  2. God calls you to a process of deep sanctification
  3. God can change your category
  4. If God calls you you have to jump
  5. We have to leave everything to be able to see the Glory of God
