Summary: In Isaiah chapter 40, verses 25 to 31, the prophet reminds the Jewish people that even though they are in a difficult situation, they should not doubt God's presence and power. They should look up to the heavens and remember that God is the eternal creator of the universe, who never tires or forgets his people. Even in the desert, in the valley, or in difficult situations, they should trust in God's strength to renew their own. The speaker encourages the audience to remember this message and not feel alone, as God is always with them.
Isaiah chapter 40, verses 25 to 31. In the historical context of this passage, the nation of Israel no longer existed, the kingdom of the North had disappeared, only the two tribes that make up the kingdom of the South had remained. And of that reality for this people of the kingdom of the South, it is very consistent with a sadness, with a darkness, because they question themselves, how is it possible that being the people of God, only two tribes remain? Only the southern kingdom remains.
And when things are not going well for us, the first thing that attacks us, that sticks with us, that occurs to us, that comes to our heads, is doubt, and we question where God is. Many times with our voices, with our mouths, we declaim, we say, no, we have never had a moment of doubt. We have never questioned where God was. And many times, like this town, we can be in the desert, we can be in the valley, we can be in the mountains, we can be in the sand, and when things are not going well for us, doubt takes center stage in our heads. When we have doubts, we are questioning whether God is still God. When we have doubts, we don't think, that no matter how you and I are, that question where is God occurs to us again, because in the desert, it has not happened to you that you are saving money, and when you believe that you already have After saving the money for what you want to do, the car's water pump breaks and that's where the savings went.
And we question where that God is, and that is when he has to remind us of what Isaiah says to the Jewish people, when he tells them who you are comparing me to, he tells them who is equal to me?, who are you comparing me to? comparand, and who you know is equal to me?. So in the passage it says to them, lift up your eyes and look to the heavens. It is not just that we raise our eyes and look at each other, or look at the structures, the biblical principle is that we are not only looking up as if we are happy, we look up because we know that our help comes from where? Hallelujah, we are in the desert that is in the valley, in the desert, where does my help come from?
Even when I believe that I am the only person in the desert and no one has stayed with me, when you raise your eyes and look at the heavens you can see next to you the Knight of the Cross, who is next to you, who has not abandoned you. Jehovah says to them: "People, who has created all this?", the one who orders the multitude of stars one by one and calls each one by name, Isaiah says: "His power is so great and his strength is so powerful that none of them is missing." But the Jewish people in this context had forgotten about this, because they were seeing that their brothers had been destroyed, Lord I have given you everything and I did not prosper. Lord I come to your house every day that I have to come and I can't find a job, Lord I have given you my life and my family is lost, Lord I have been faithful to you and I cannot feel you, Lord I am surrounded by people but I feel alone or I feel lonely, where are you?, where is that God? Have you never been through that situation?
Sometimes we believe that what happens to us is the greatest test. Mine, hah, is the biggest test, not yours, mine is the biggest. I was listening on one occasion when I was in Puerto Rico, listening to the PTL program in Spanish, they interviewed this minister from Venezuela and he said that while he was opening a church in some fields, a guerrilla came and took his two-year-old daughter, and He said to this minister: "Look, stop preaching, or we'll kill your daughter." He continued preaching, what did the guerrilla do, they took his daughter, they threw her up, and the girl fell into the bayonet, and they killed her. Where is God when these things happen? God was there, there, there are a thousand theological ways of understanding it, how is it possible that, being faithful to God, he allowed his daughter to be killed?
This minister says that he took his girl and told the guerrillas, there was a purpose for this girl to die, because with this girl dying now you have to listen to me, now this girl is going to heaven, and I have the one who has the key that will allow me to see her in the future in heaven. If I told you tonight, tell this pastor, tell this guerrilla, I offer you to the God who is going to raise this girl at the moment of resurrection, that although I am in a desert because it hurts me to lose my daughter, but I cannot stop telling you that the Christ that I serve continues to be God even though things are dark, even though things are closed, even though the light is not seen through the tunnel, even though I am abandoned, even though I am without money, Even though I'm sad, God is still God, hallelujah.
You know the story when the people of Israel were in the desert, they were suffering and they began to criticize, to murmur, why did you take us out of Egypt? You brought us here to kill us, they were slaves, they were slaves, they had no freedom, and unfortunately in the 21st century we are no different, when things go wrong, we take out the gift, the talent of the finger, someone is to blame, someone has done something, something does not smell right. Somewhere in the bible I believe I read that Jesus said: "Whoever wants to follow me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." Take up your cross, not your brother's, or your cousin's, or your neighbor's, take up your cross. It said in the words of Isaiah: "why do you murmur?" I am reading the international version, it says: "why do you grumble, Israel?" Look at what they say, since they didn't see anyone they said: "My path is hidden from the Lord", in other words: "God has forgotten me", my God ignores my rights, where is that God?
Isaiah then tells the people: "Perhaps you do not know, perhaps you have not found out, that the Lord is the eternal God, creator of the ends of the earth, who does not tire or fatigue, and his intelligence is unfathomable". When we are in that valley or that desert, remember what the Lord says, the eternal God. Why do you make this emphasis? Because there were other gods, but the one that Isaiah is talking about is the eternal one, the one that does not change, the one that does not disappear from the scene, and that is the great thing about my Lord, that no matter what Whether we are in the desert, or we are in the mountains, or we are alone, or we have problems in the family, or problems in the community, when that eternal Lord comes into our life, the scene of life changes because the eternal Lord who has the control of all our scenes in our life.
How many believe so? Oh brother but tell him that you believe it, how much has Saturday yelled on Christmas Eve? How much did he yell when the Stones won ah? Rejoice, rejoice, this year is leaving, how do we start it? It doesn't matter, how are we going to end it? It does matter, where we're going, where you are, it doesn't matter where you are, it doesn't matter where you are , our God is God of the desert, he is God of the mountain, he is God of the height, he is God of the bottom, hallelujah. He says that He strengthens the tired, increases the strength of the weak, how many times have you sat down, lied down to eat and you are alone? Have you thought about that? I am eating surrounded by people but I am in a desert. I'm working with coworkers and I'm having so many problems, and I'm alone. I'm in the discipleship class, but no one knows my problem, so I'm alone, I'm alone. I have come to church on Sunday, others rejoice, I have not rejoiced and I feel alone, I feel alone, like no one realizes that I am alone, that I am alone, that I am in the desert.
Church, church, we are not alone, we are not alone. Tell the brother who is by your side you are not alone, you are not alone, God has not forgotten me, God has not forgotten me, the Psalmist said, if God had not been present, our enemies would have swallowed us alive, but since God is present, the enemies have not swallowed us yet, and although if I am in the desert, why, or if I am on the mountain, why, or if I am in the valley, why, or if I am alone, why, you are alone, desert, mountain, however you are, at all times I say Lord, oh Lord You are the eternal God, and if You are with me I do not need anyone else because I have you, and if I have you I have everything.
I want to end by reading the last two verses backwards as Orthodox Jews read it. They will walk and not get tired, they will run and not get tired, they will fly like eagles, they will renew their strength, why?, because we hope and trust in the Lord who is eternal God. He says that young people fall and stumble, get tired and fatigued, but He increases the strength of the weak, He strengthens the tired, why? Because even if I don't feel it, even if I don't see it, even though my faith If you are failing, even if you do not have the desire to worship Him, God is still eternal, still powerful, self-sufficient. When you return home, be it the desert, be it the mountain, be it the valley, be it your loneliness, remember, you are not alone. The eternal God is with you, he is with you, he is with you, believe it, even if the times say something different, believe it, you have to believe the eternal God.
If we don't believe Him, who are we going to believe? Come on, God bless you, God keep you.
