Summary: The speaker reflects on the true meaning of Christmas and the mission of Jesus Christ. He emphasizes that the Spirit of the Lord is upon all believers and that the church's commitment is to preach good news and bring healing, liberation, and restoration to those in need. The speaker encourages believers to recognize their power and authority through the Holy Spirit and to be the source of power in their communities. He references Acts chapter 2 as an example of believers who were impacted by the Holy Spirit and brought about great change in their city.
The mission of the church is to be impacted by the power of the Holy Spirit and to share the message of Jesus Christ with authority and conviction. This was seen in the book of Acts when Peter spoke to a crowd of thousands and converted many. When the Holy Spirit is present, it brings unity, signs, and wonders to the church. We should all seek the anointing of the Holy Spirit in our lives and continue to share the good news of salvation. The Spirit of the Lord is calling us to receive this anointing and fulfill the mission of Jesus here on earth. We should never stop seeking more of the Holy Spirit's power and authority in our lives.
There is a song that they were singing a few moments ago, Lord, let's see if it's true, we don't want your blessings but you, and I suppose that each one of us understood what he was singing, more than the melody of the song, very soft , very special, we are saying to the Lord, Lord, it doesn't matter what may happen to us, it doesn't matter what we lack, the persecution doesn't matter, the scarcity doesn't matter, only You matter to us, only You are important, only You are my God , only You are powerful, the one who created the heavens and the earth, for Him there is nothing impossible, and for the one who believes everything is possible. How many give glory to God for that? Give glory to God, don't worry.
Some have to remember their roots of the glories to God and those things, and those hallelujahs, and those amen, because our God is more powerful, He is our mighty God. I am happy to be here today, and I thank God for the confidence of the pastors in allowing me to spend some time with you, and I want to invite you to open your Bible to the book of Luke chapter 4, verse 18 and 19. Book of Saint Luke, the gospel of Saint Luke, one of the gospels in the new testament, chapter 4 verses 18 and 19. The truth is that we are in a month in which everything is reflection, in the month of December after Saint Turkey dies, the last Thursday of November, the month of December is coming and everything is reflection, we all reflect on whether we have done things well or not, and we already begin to make the list of what we did not do and that maybe in a month we could do what we didn't do in a year, or maybe we could make the list of what to do in the next year, besides that it is a subject for reflection because we somehow remember the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, and that is like a world event, only sometimes we forget that He already born!.
We forget that He was born a long time ago, and we are anxiously awaiting that day as if He were to be born, He was already born, what's more, he already lived, he already died for you and he died for me, and one more thing, he defeated death rising on the cross of Calvary. So what we do today is a process of reflection, some reflect deeply, they begin to read the Gospels, the birth of Jesus, the sermons, I think that out of a hundred sermons in different churches, 99 are related to the manger. , the donkey, the cow, the angels, the wizards, we don't know whether to call them wizards because we don't know if it's biblical or not in the end.
Some reflect how the credit is going to hold up, some reflect, how many gifts do I have to give?, the best thing is how many gifts will I get. We are so worried about putting a snowman outside our house that we forgot what the manger looked like, we forgot that this chubby gentleman, thank you, in a red suit, with a thick white beard, with a red cap, really he He is insignificant next to the one who left his position as God to become a man and did not skimp on being equal to God as something to cling to, but who came to suffer, to walk, to preach the message of reconciliation that the world needed to reconcile with God.
We are so worried, our homes, worried that the tree is well decorated, the lights, this year the color green is used with red, last year blue was used with gray, we forgot a little bit in all this time of reflection , that what we should really value, is that promise of the almighty God that he made years ago to send his son to reconcile the world with Him, that is Jesus Christ. And when we talk about Jesus Christ we remember his birth, we remember how difficult it was, and we put ourselves in the position, would we go and have a child there in a stable?, would we have been able to be born in a stable? ?. I think that we would have started to complain, we would have paid our best health insurance to be born in the best hospital, and we start to reflect and forget that this birth had a purpose and had a mission. We forget many times as a church to promote in the world, with our family, with our unconverted friends, with our society, the system, that when Jesus Christ was born he did not become the symbol of a religion, he became the purpose of a mission for man, so that man may be reconciled with God.
So, it's the compromise. What we are going to read today is the church's commitment to the mission of Jesus Christ, and hopefully we can understand a little what we can expose today, the word of the Lord says like this: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord ". Do you know what that is? You're not here to warm up a seat. You don't need to be a pastor, missionary, apostle, prophet, teacher, evangelist to accomplish this.
Do you know that the Lord called you to fulfill his word? He not only called you so that you and I can be saved through having accepted and recognized that Jesus Christ is our Lord, but also, he called us to preach good news to those who need it today. Someday we need it too, and someone came and knocked on the door, and we opened it by mistake, and it was the Lord, and I know that many of us do not regret having opened that door by mistake, because it was the Lord , because it came into your heart, because it came into your life to heal you. When the world today is trying to put an X before Christmas, or at Christmas, even Christians you will know them on your Facebook. You look at the facebook of some Christians and you would be surprised if they really are Christians. Happy Xmas. Look, even if the system forces us to delete the word christmas, Cris, Christ is not in a letter, he is in the heart, they can shut our mouths, they won't do it because what the Lord has done is much greater, the heaven and earth will pass away, but the word of the Lord, his authority, his power, will not pass away.
So as Jesus Christ gave us this impulse in this verse that we are going to read today, today I want to invite you to declare about yourself, put your hand on your head, and say: the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, say it with conviction, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me. You know, when we read the whole of chapter 4, we see that there's the baptism of the Lord, and the Holy Spirit came like a dove, there, and then he went to Nazareth full of the Spirit, and he made this statement: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, and has anointed me." I want to tell you that in the book of Ephesians chapter 1 verse 13, for those who write and take notes, there is the essential reference that we were sealed by his Spirit. There is the reference because we were sealed, when we opened our hearts to believe in the name of Jesus Christ as our savior, it says that the Holy Spirit sealed us, and that day we began to be and to be defined as belonging to the Lord.
But even more powerful, this is chapter 1 verse 8: "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you." Do you know what I love about this verse? What I love about this structure of the word, that we don't need anyone, it's true and I'm going to say it with great respect, I admire all people who have certain gifts defined, of healing, of miracles, of making it rain gold from the sky, whatever, but the Lord has given power to you, the Lord has called you to show the power of God in a nation, in a generation like This one who doesn't believe in God. So the best thing that your neighborhood can have, your community is you, the best thing that the factory can have, the office where you work is you, because you have power, because the Lord has anointed you and the Spirit of the Lord is upon you, It is about a living church, it is about a church that believes, it is about a church that lays hands on the sick and the sick are healed.
The Lord gave me the opportunity to speak about this in my church, and I have been trying to finish this for 4 Sundays. I don't know if it has been a blessing for the church, but at least for me it has been tremendous. They are those words that one reads almost every day, almost once a month at least and suddenly the Lord in his mercy sends you to that branch, you are going to stay here for a couple of weeks, and when the Spirit Holy comes upon us, and we recognize that we are under his dominion, when we recognize that we are under his dominion, when we recognize that we are under his authority, that anointing comes, that smeared with spiritual oil, says the Psalm that it is from the head up to the plant, he says it runs through the head, down the beard, then the clothing, to the edge of the clothing. There is a sense of being immersed, of being wrapped, one feels there, one feels what a fried fish feels like, covered in oil, because the Lord wants to wrap you like that, he wants to embrace you with his power, with his anointing, you know for what?, to bring the good news of salvation to those who need it.
It is that the church is not only for social life. The church in this city, in this world, is not there to carry out a religion like the stubborn one in the world, it is there to show what God is above all things, the one who can heal, the one who can liberate, the one who can restore, the one who can unite what is disunited. The one who can restore joy, the one who turns hate into love, the one who turns sadness into joy, that is the God the church should be concerned about preaching.
So, this first structure of this verse teaches us that the Holy Spirit is our support. So wherever you go, don't feel so cheap simply because you don't collect a few thousand. When we read the book of Acts and see the work of the men who believed, it says that, when Peter was walking through the streets, he said that the people at least if the shadow touched them, if the shadow touched one of them those patients, that patient would get up and walk alone. There are some that not even the shadow of us want to see, they don't take pictures with us, when we go next to a Christmas tree until the lights go out, why tell him about Santa Claus, he's gone, he's losing so much weight. You know, the Lord's church transcends, the Lord's church throws down barriers, when we can declare these verses, you know, this verse is taken in so many ways, those who believe in social Christianity, those who push, are based a lot on this. But it goes even further, because the poor are not only those who do not have enough to eat, they are those who lack something. They are those who lack a house, there are some who have many houses, if they are really poor.
There are some who have great jobs, earn an impressive salary, and are poor, feel that they are still lacking, and that is the mission of the church. In the book of Acts chapter 2, we can detail more or less identify what this mission of Jesus means, and you know, the interesting thing is that they were people like you and me, who were and were impacted by power, by authority, by the anointing of the Holy Spirit, they were people who worked more than 40 hours a week probably, they were people who had to pay rent and a lot of commitments, but they were impacted by the power and authority of the Holy Spirit in their lives, and a source of power began to run in that city that began to do great things. It says in the Acts chapter if we can more or less see what happened, in chapter 2 we talk about the day of Pentecost. When we talk about the day of Pentecost the Pentecostals should jump, an electric shock should give them now.
It says that the Holy Spirit came like tongues of fire and rested on them, and for what? He says to speak in other languages, and he says that they were not like those languages so spiritual that we could think but rather they were quite earthly languages that some who were listening said, but when did he learn my language? You know what I love about this, that it says when the Spirit of the Lord, if we go back and make a parallel, came and anointed me, he anointed me to give good news, to give the word of the Lord, you know what?, although you don't know how to speak, no English, just ask for number 1 at Mcdonalds, just know how to say number 1, yes, if the Spirit of the Lord is upon you, even so it will transcend others, and many will enter into a process of conviction that God is powerful, no, it's just that I don't know English that's why I don't advance as much in the gospel. Haven't they told you that God speaks Spanish? That's what some say, I have my doubts.
So when the Holy Spirit comes into people's lives, when he comes to the Lord's church, when the Holy Spirit comes, he is upon his church, it begins to transcend cultures, to transcend languages, and it begins to develop a conviction about others who had not heard of the wonders of the Lord. So he who is indifferent and hard-hearted is touched by the transcendence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a servant, a handmaid, a son, a daughter of God.
In verse 14 of the book of Acts, when Peter makes his first intervention, if you can read Peter's message there, you will realize, Acts chapter 2 verse 14, from then on, you know, you will realize account of how Peter, being under the anointing, the presence of the Holy Spirit, supported by the Holy Spirit, by the power and authority that He gave him, begins to speak with authority of Jesus Christ. He begins to say what He was, what He did and how it ended, you will say and where is the marvelous thing there, that Pedro was ignorant, that Pedro was not a lawyer, that Pedro was not educated, and Pedro began to speak with eloquently, He began to speak with conviction, certain that He really was Jesus Christ. People did not understand how a man who was from the people, from the vulgar, someone who barely knew the vowels, dared to stand in front of an exaggerated amount of people and talk about Jesus Christ, about what He was, about the wonders, and about how unjustly they crucified him.
So when the Holy Spirit is upon you, he gives you authority to talk about this wonderful Jesus Christ. If the church life isn't very funny, and I'm not talking about speaking in tongues or dancing, I'm talking about living under the Holy Spirit, living under his love, his blanket of support. Whether you speak in tongues or not that is of the Lord. But when we look for him daily, when we open the word, we begin to hunger for him, he comes and gives you a word, he gives you a speech, he gives you a repertoire to speak sometimes in places where no one would listen to you, as happened to Pedro. In Acts 2 verse 41, there we see the conclusion of this great message, made by a man who was under the anointing of the Holy Spirit that brought conversion. He says how many more or less joined the church? About three thousand, and that service was not prepared, neither the guitarist nor the drummer came, there were no microphones, about three thousand.
Can you imagine where Peter could have been speaking so that he reached three thousand, there is no voice so loud that it can be heard by three thousand people, but when the Holy Spirit is there, even the last one who arrived half lost that passes here, until that receives it. Even the one who came asking if they charged admission for the concert, even that one receives the grace, the gift of salvation, says that about three thousand were converted, he knows the word of the Lord, when man uses the word of the Lord while under the anointing of the Holy Spirit and this is at all levels, do not think that only for the super spiritual, for those who work in social ministries, for those who have to work in politics, for those who work in a factory, in a company, we can all be under the anointing of the Lord. And there the Lord will give us thanks, and allow us to reach others.
Verse 42, Acts chapter 2, not only does he enter into the conviction process but his church also enters, verse 42 says: "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine, in fellowship one with another, in breaking of bread and in the sentences". You know if you love the Lord it is much more entertaining than being in a building. He knows that that Mission Impossible movie that is going to be released now is boring compared to what the Lord can do with us, and that movie really looks good, but even so we can jump from a taller building and the Lord comes and It's going to make it shine, I'm not saying that they throw themselves off some building, I'm saying that the Holy Spirit, when the church is under the anointing of the Spirit, the creativity of your church begins to work in different ways. And what can be bitterness for some, for others it can be an opportunity to show the name of Jesus Christ to people who need it.
I want to tell you that this sermon took me four weeks, so imagine how long it will be today. He says that the Holy Spirit, there is nothing that can move you, not even if the giant rises at dawn every day, because those giants were good at staying. There are some Christians who know dawn like 11 or 12 o'clock, and the sun came up early, 11:45 in the morning, even if the giant rises, even if the army surrounds you, even if you are walking in that desert process and you don't there is nothing around you, there will be the answer of the Lord, there will be his power.
And those things make us persevere in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ. A church with a conviction rooted in what the concept of the Lord Jesus Christ is, more than in the concept of what a religion is, is a church that endures over time. Many young people wonder, how old and still serving the Lord? How many things will that old man of the Lord's power have seen, so let's not back down, let's continue with the mission that the Lord Jesus Christ entrusted to us, if any of you felt that you did not have a more or less purpose to continue visualizing yourself in the presence of the Lord, here you have quite a few things to do. Maybe he won't have an office, he won't have a microphone, but he will have the opportunity to talk about the King of kings, and Lord of lords. And when your neighbor or your neighbor tells you, look, something happened with my husband, with my, well, with the daughter-in-law, if the mothers-in-law still ask for prayers for the daughters-in-law, right? go and with that authority that the Lord gave you, says that you will place your hands on the sick, and what will happen? (brothers: will heal)
There are some who are within the church who better not lay hands on a sick person. Acts chapter 2 verses 43 to 47: When the Spirit of the Lord is upon us, upon the church, it brings impact, there are signs, there are wonders, it brings unity, they suffer with those who suffer, it brings an awakening to be in the presence of the Lord two times a week, all the time. You know that people were desirous at that time to be in the Lord's church. Do you know what strikes me about this whole story when we can summarize it? It's that when people had someone sick they didn't call 911 and the ambulance arrived, they went to church because they knew they would surely come out healthy. You go there and see if you come out healthy, a couple of pills and then you have to come back just in case.
That is the active church, that is the church that the Lord does not want to lose, that we continue cultivating it. In the midst of a mountain of disbelief, in the midst of a mountain of doubts, in the midst of a mountain of arguments against what God is, the church rises up like the burning bush in the middle of the desert to show that God is powerful and even that the world can't do it. You know that in that primitive church they were looking for a way to get together, they were looking for a way to always be attentive to the work of the Lord, we are anointed to preach, to give the good news of salvation. In Exodus chapter 29 verse 36 he teaches us to suffer for the sin of others to offer the good news, and do you know what the good news is? Jesus forgives you, Jesus saves you, Jesus heals you, that is the good news. news.
In First Corinthians chapter 1 verse 21 it says that He anointed us, God anointed us, so this is not just anything, this is not a credential from a denomination, in First John chapter 2 verse 27: "But the anointing we received of Him abides in you". You can look at your hands, look at your hands, look at your hands, tell him, Lord, I don't have much, sometimes it's hard for me to believe, but I need that anointing, I need that grace. What happens if you put your hands like receiving something, like receiving a gift, believe it, it's something symbolic but say, Lord thank you here are my hands, I don't have much, I don't have much education, I don't have many resources, maybe I don't have a long time, Lord, but I need that anointing, I need the Spirit of the Lord to be upon me.
Now close your eyes with your hands there, close your eyes, the Lord is calling a church to receive this anointing of the Holy Spirit in a special way. You know, when we can be ready to receive this, you know, a world of opportunities begins to open up to show how wonderful Jesus is. And at this time when people vaguely remember that manger and those stables, and that image of Jesus in the manger with his parents, with the Magi, it is such a religious image, so mystical, and for some it is no longer important even within the church, there is a remnant that is eager to fulfill the mission of Jesus here on earth, thank you Jesus, thank you Jesus...
We are going to stand up, you know we never have enough anointing to not put our hands like this, never, never are we spiritual enough to put our hand out and say Lord don't give me more, tell Lord don't give me more, I need you, Lord I long for you with all my heart, begin to raise your voice, and begin to declare that the Spirit of the Lord is upon your life, and in this month of so much reflection, the Spirit of the Lord is going to show that you have power, that you He has authority, because he has been given this to walk in this world. Lord, we need you, Lord, we need our hands anointed with that oil every day, fragrant oil, oil to be able to carry out the work that you have entrusted to us. Thank you Lord, for you have brought power, hallelujah, blow Holy Spirit, blow Holy Spirit, (in tongues), hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, if you are sick, the Lord is bringing healing now. If you are sad it is changing your sadness into joy. If you are oppressed, if you are broken, there it is, the Lord lifts up the broken and heals their wounds.
Today is the pleasant time of his word, if you hear his voice today, do not harden your heart, says his word. O Holy Spirit, move with authority, search the depths of our hearts, thank you Jesus, thank you Lord Jesus, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, thank you Jesus, thank you Lord Jesus. Hallelujah, thank you Lord Jesus, thank you Jesus. Thank you Lord Jesus, hallelujah, You are good Lord, thank you Lord, thank you Lord.
