Summary: In this sermon, the speaker asks what motivates us to continue building in our lives and to not give up when things get tough. He shares his experience running a half marathon and how the encouragement of others motivated him to keep going. Using the example of David and Solomon in 1 Chronicles, the speaker encourages listeners to take hold of their lives and not let fear hold them back. He reminds them that God is with them and will not abandon them until the work is finished. The speaker encourages listeners to get their hands on the situation and not forget to encourage others along the way.
The message is about being a builder in your personal life, family life, and ministry. Encouraging others is important, and if God is calling you to motivate someone, don't let go until He tells you to stop. Even if it feels clumsy at first, start with baby steps and approach someone with genuine encouragement. Don't give up on what you're building, even if it feels hopeless or you've tried multiple times. God will not let go of your hands until the work is completed. Pray for wisdom and guidance to build solid, healthy, and abundant lives for yourself and those around you.
I'm going to take a risk here. When you hear a title like this: “God has chosen you to build”, do you believe it? Amen. Really? You can look at your life, you can look at the environment of your whole life, you can look inside yourself and you can say: "Yes, God has chosen me to build."
What are you building? That was the question with which I stayed there in "stand by" last Wednesday, what are you building? Many of us to give you a little, a little summary, many of us are in our lives trying to build something, some of us are building our lives personally, because over the years perhaps the, the, the traumas we lived through were more than the good achievements and one is looking to build something new, like it shows where he manages to find a new muse, a new inspiration to direct my life in a good direction. And many of us have managed to do it and we are on a good track, at a good pace, but some of us have also found it difficult, it's like we get up and after a while we fall down again and we come back and get up, and we come back and stumble, and you come back and get up and go there getting good air and suddenly something happens and fun! And you come back and fall.
And one says, but why is it getting so easy for the other and I'm here so, pushing so much, pushing so much and it doesn't work out.
The second part that I want to focus on today has to do with motivation, who is motivating you along the way? Three Sundays ago, I don't know if I told you this, three Sundays ago I had the opportunity from running in the Boston Half Marathon that was here in Jamaica Plain, in the Jamaica Plain area uh, we started from Franklin Park South, we went all the way down Jamaica Way, the River Way, we went around here at, near the Number Center and we went back again, it was exit and entrance again.
Half Marathon, how many miles is it? Can someone tell me? How many miles is the Half Marathon? Thirteen, very good. Luis I know, because I know that Luis is training for a half marathon, I want to see him when he runs the half marathon, it's thirteen miles my brothers, thirteen miles is like saying, we're going from here to, where? From here to Randolf, my house is sixteen miles, if I bring it a little more here, put it from here Mall de Sousher so to speak, thirteen miles more or less.
Almost nothing true, that's from here to the corner, ah, cars were invented for a reason of course, but look my brothers there is something, there is something very interesting and I remember this from the first message that the Pastor brought now in the month of October when he made the illustration of a marathon runner, when he made that illustration I was able to identify myself very well, because when you train obviously part of the training is that the body can adjust to be able to resist that type of distance, I I know people out there who start running and they think it's okay, before they used to run two miles and now I have to start eight miles hard and they start running, running and what they do is hurt their legs, knees and after running they are covered with ice packs, as there are also people who start running and Consal I am not saying that it is a bad thing, it is just that we get excited and want to do something, let's do it like this like this.
But there are also people, who in their training are a little more lazy and ah! Thirteen miles, I run that there with nothing and what they do is they run two or three miles twice a week and when the time comes, they start running, they go for the fourth or fifth mile, uff, they They ran out of gasoline, they can't take it anymore, oh, forget it, that's not for me, okay.
But when one understands the dynamics of this type of event, the preparation that it takes to get to that point and when you are in the event itself, something very interesting happens because when you go from, from what It can be considered what your limit is, where you can run comfortably, and you reach a limit where your comfort no longer exists and you are running more by force of will than anything else, it is already like your body it is automatically pulling one step after the other, almost dragged and what you are saying no, now, now, I want to get there, I want to get there, you are in your mind trying to convince your body to keep pulling one step behind the another to reach the goal.
And that is where many times, that point comes in, who is motivating us to truly be able to reach that goal, what motivates us to be able to get there? What is going to motivate me so that I don't get out of the race and say this is not for me, but rather that I can continue there, step after step, even if I am, well, necessarily like a turtle, but even if I am there suffering with each one of the steps that I take, because I tell you my brothers it hurts, that is, the body hurts, that is, that is a stress in which one puts the body that is strong, if you when you are walking many times you your feet start to hurt, imagine when you run long distances, not only do your feet hurt, but your knees start to hurt, your hips start to hurt, your spine starts to hurt, and your hands start to hurt. Sometimes for a moment my hands went numb, from doing this movement for so long, my hands, the tips of my fingers I didn't feel them, that's why you see that sometimes the runners start to lower their hands and like that they squeeze them like this, so that the blood runs down to their hands and they can feel it r again and be able to keep running.
But when you are well focused, there is something that I always like and it is the people around you yelling at you, hey! “keeping running” “your running good” and people don't know you but they are motivating you.
Some, some like when you hear them, it's like ya shh! If you knew what I am suffering here "yeah you have good peace", yes of course, if you knew, thanks for the encouragement. No, but it's true, one hears that and one kind of cheers up and one says: ok let's continue, let's continue, there are times when they take out the cow bells, you know what they are, those bells that are very big and they are sounding like that to you; wow! And you go by and you hear those bells, and come on, run! runs!.
I like it every time I participate in that, I go out and run, and I yell at anyone, be it a woman, be it a man, be it black, be it white, be it Hispanic, if they are Hispanic, I yell at them even more. I remember there was a time, the first time I went to the Boston Marathon, which was I think the first time I saw a Puerto Rican running in the marathon, and I know it because they had the Puerto Rican flag like that in front and suddenly I came out screaming: come on boricua, come on boricua. And he kept looking to the side like that and he kind of greeted me and everything, and I, yes, come on Boricua ehh! and then a Colombian came, give him Colombia and I'm hey! They're still there, that motivates them to keep going.
Motivation is very important my brothers, that's why I ask what motivates you to continue building in your life? What is it that you have there as your final focus for you to be able to reach that goal? You remember the book of Chronicles that we had read, Chronicles, First Chronicles, chapter 28, I'm going to go back there.
First Chronicles, chapter 28, verse 10, are remembered. David is talking to Solomon, his son, and he was saying, excuse me, verse 9.
"And you Solomon my son recognizes the God of your father, serve him with a perfect heart and with a voluntary spirit", these were points that I spoke last week.
Eh, "because Jehovah searches the hearts of all and understands every intent of thoughts, if you seek him you will find him, if you leave him he will discard you forever, look now that Jehovah has chosen you to build a house for the Sanctuary, which says make an effort and do it”.
What does verse 20 say? "David also said to Solomon his son, cheer up, be strong and get to work." Has someone told you, give the thing a hand? Have you heard that expression? Give it a hand, how do the Mexicans say? wow.
But that, that idea of you putting your hands on things, Jesus himself in Matthew, he says:
"No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the Kingdom of God."
In other words, if you get your hands on the Kingdom of God, if you get your hands on the things for which God has called you, it is better that you continue there, because the first time you look back, that plow if you If you deviate, you are going to be making a furrow that is going to give curves and the purpose of this plow is to make a cut right there, to be able to prepare the way and that is what God wants us to do with our lives, take hold of your life, don't lose your life, take hold of the things that lie ahead of you, oh but Pastor it's so difficult if you knew the things with which I struggle, well you know that, take hold and keep fighting, because no one will fight for you.
They can cheer you on and that's good, that's what I'm going to say, they can cheer you up, I can cheer you up, I can tell you come on God is with you, you can do it, other people around you can yell at you come on You can, but the one who has to get your hands on the matter is you.
There are people who perhaps fear doesn't let them get a grip on the situation, they say oh no, no, I'm not going to talk to my partner about that issue because I'm going to cause trouble and I don't want to have a problem. And by not avoiding a problem we keep letting another problem keep growing, growing and growing, and when they come to see it is something too big and you have already lost the opportunity, but even if you lose the opportunity, however you want, you are going to have to use it to that giant, who will be bigger later, but you will have to use him however you want.
We cannot let the fear that we will not be able to achieve that result limit us from truly being able to get our hands on things, from being able to deal with things.
David as a father was encouraging his son Solomon, he was letting him know look, build, God... look at this how beautiful. Cheer up and make an effort and get to work, do not fear or dismay because, look at this how beautiful, because Jehovah God, my God, will he be with whom? With you, look here is the confirmation, what's more we are going to read this part together, it says:
"He will not leave you, nor will he forsake you until you finish all the work for the service of the house of the Lord."
There he is obviously talking about the service of the house of Jehovah, but for a moment change those words and say: He will not leave you and will forsake you until you finish all the work in life that he has put you, in what he has begun in you, he will not leave you nor will he forsake you.
As long as you keep your hands there focused, if what you're building and again I don't want to sound like this is a cliché or something, I'm talking about practical things in our lives, if what you're building has to do with your family give it a hand, give it a hand, give it a hand because God is not going to abandon you until everything that has to be done is finished, God is not going to abandon you.
If you are dealing with a situation, with a work colleague who is making your life impossible, give him a hand, how am I going to do it, Lord, He is with you, he is not going to leave you, he is not going to forsake you, when you get your hands on it make sure that when you are doing it, Lord I know that, when I put my hands here, You are going to give me the wisdom to know how to be diplomatic and how to work, how to deal with this situation and that everyone world wins one way or another. Get your hands on the situation.
And as you are taking hold of the situation, do not forget to also encourage others, if you can take hold of the situation it is because God is encouraging you to do so.
You know another way in which God also motivates you, when you can motivate others, it is like saying motivation has two faces, there is the motivation that you receive and there is the motivation that you give. It is that beautiful principle that Jesus also talks about, that principle that he talks about in Acts chapter 20, "Language of God", where he talks about that "giving is more important than receiving", but it is better to give than to receive. Nice to receive, we like to receive, but we also have to give.
If what God is calling you to build is that you motivate another, lend a hand and motivate others, do not let go of that work until God tells you; Ok you motivated enough. And I know that this could sound a little harsh because as we understand or as I can discern when God is telling me, keep motivating or not, don't motivate anymore, as I know that it is my emotions that are telling me to motivate or what don't do it, versus the voice of God telling me to do it or not, that's another message.
For now I focus on the fact that, give it a hand and motivate others, but Pastor, how am I going to do it if they never motivated me, I don't know how to motivate someone, hey, start "Baby steps", somehow or another, even if it feels a bit clumsy at first, but the mere fact that you approach someone and say: Hey Clelia, look, I really encourage you, say those same words to her, give her a hand! Pray, and you will see, God is going to do something, if that first attempt, if you did it just to say it, I think those words are, they stay there, but if you said those words with the true meaning, with the genuine sense of being able to encourage this person, even if they were very simple words, I am sure that those words will reach that person's heart.
And they are going to motivate the heart of that person, so that that person can continue giving the rest to everything that is ahead of them, because that person is seeing that you are making use of the situation of being able to encourage them or to be able to encourage them and that person therefore it will be saying wow! If someone is investing in me to give me the encouragement that I need, then I can, God can use that to choose that person and encourage him or her so that they can then continue to use the situations that lie ahead. Look my brothers this may sound simplistic, but you know very well how these words can really resonate in your life.
How many of us have put our hands on the plow and not only looked back, let go and walked away, that plow is very heavy and I'm not going to deal with it, someone else pick it up for me. Or there are some of us who have our hand on the plow but it's like so hard and we kind of stay stuck there, oh! I'm not going to keep making more force but we stay there without doing anything, we need that additional force to break and throw him forward.
Some of you have dared to think, "this is hopeless, I am not going to continue spending my strength, my energy, my saliva on this now."
Some of you may say; oh but why try again if I have already done it three, four, five times, I don't see that it works, do you want me to tell you something, give it a go, cheer up, make an effort, get down to work, because God is with you and he will not He is going to leave, he is not going to forsake you until that work is completed, or at least until he says now! We take off quickly, thank God that You do not let go of the plow of our lives so quickly.
Look my brothers, this is the type of message that can be turned into a conversation, because this is like who says, scratching the surface so that one can truly see what is there, what is it that we really struggle with, what It is what you are building in your life, whatever it is that you are building, do not give up, keep taking hold of the situation.
Because if God is the one who is giving you encouragement, if God is the one who is giving you the inspiration so that you can achieve that, until that work that God began is not accomplished, God is not going to let go of your hands. , God is not going to let them go, God is going to keep his hands there, until He sees that the work has been accomplished and that will be when he comes for us, because as long as we are here He will never let us go , will never let you go. So my brothers, my sisters from one corridor to another keep running, keep running, you have a long way to go, you have a lot to build, I still have a lot to build, on a personal level, on a family level, on a ministry level there is a lot what to build
You in your personal lives, you are building something, there is something you are doing, do not be satisfied with what you are seeing so far, keep looking for more, receive the encouragement that other people give you around you and at the same time motivate yourself to others, motivate others too so that they can complete their careers and you will see how God will take care of it, to make his presence felt in your life, to lift you up, to encourage you, to teach you and above all things to he reveals his purpose, his heart to his and how through your life, you can become an instrument of motivation and edification for others too, you can build the lives of others around you, that's why I started saying , “you believe it”, because if you do not believe it, this message will not be felt, you will be able to tell me; wow Pastor Omar, your words are beautiful, I don't want to hear that, this message has to make sense to you, when you go out, when you are out there on the street, when you meet your friends and they are there, tensions begin And what do I know, are you building the lives of those people?
With your conversations, with your words, with your thoughts, with your actions. Are you building the lives of those people? Or are you letting them build something else in you?
We are going to stand up and we are going to pray. God has chosen you to build, you are a builder, you are a builder.
Dear Lord, thank you that you do not choose us to build. And Lord, these words do not make sense if we do not see them through your eyes, Lord, if we cannot understand them through the intentions that You have for each one of us, Lord.
Father look, I beg you about each one of my brothers and sisters tonight, I know that in some way or another, they are meditating and reflecting on what they are hearing Lord and each one is processing it in their own way, each which is processing it in its life context. But above all things Lord, I ask that it be Your word, that it be Your light, that it be Your wisdom that illuminates each one of our thoughts and hearts, to know how to get the most out of these words, get the most out of Your word Lord over all things.
You want us to be able to build solid, healthy, abundant lives, abundant families, Lord, and that in this way we can become builders of this church and of the communities in which we live, so I ask you, Lord, that just as we come out from here tonight, that this word can continue reverberating in some way or another, in our mind, in our Spirit, in our heart and Father that we do not discard it, but that we can incorporate it my God and know how best to respond, to that call that You give us to be able to build and not destroy.
May we build our lives and the lives of others around us on you, who are the rock and foundation of all things. Bless my brothers and sisters Lord as they leave here today Jesus keep them warm as the temperatures get colder Lord and may You take care of the health of each one of my brothers and sisters Lord may tonight You provide for them a deep, restful rest my God and that they can tomorrow if you allow it, wake up to a new day and be able to fulfill the tasks that tomorrow brings.
We bless Your name Lord and once again we thank You because You are the one who encourages us and motivates us along the way Lord, in order to achieve those purposes to which You call us, we bless Your name, we thank You in the name of Jesus, Amen and Amen.
Brothers and sisters God bless you.
