The prayer at the end asks for transformation in lives and the city, and for hidden stars to rise up and shine.
Isaiah 61. Brothers, I want to start by sharing a testimony. In my house I have a two-year-old boy and he learned a new word this week, I was there doing my things and I heard a little voice behind me, an angel's voice that cried out saying "I want milk!" 'I want milk!' I don't want to teach him the word "now" – now, because he surely would have used it. They know that he learned the word I want, and he uses it well.
And you know what I started to think, the Lord asked the people this question many times, Jesus told the people, what do you want? Do you really want to be healed? People who were following him and he said to them, what are you looking for? And I felt the Lord say to me, Gregory, what do you want? What do you want of me?
God asks you the question, and many times we don't know what to say. So I want to read at least in the largue of discipleship, what do we want? What do we want to achieve in everything we do? Discipling and serving the people of God.
Isaiah 61 says so. Jesus said it. He said, "The spirit of the Lord, the Lord, is upon me, for the Lord anointed me, and has sent me to preach good news to the downcast. To bind up the brokenhearted, to set free the captives and prisoners. . Opening of the prison. To proclaim the year of Jehovah's good will, the day of vengeance of our God. To comfort all those in mourning, to order that the afflicted of Zion be given glory instead of ashes. Olio of joy instead of mourning. Cloak of gladness instead of the anguished spirit, and they will be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to his glory. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and lift up the troubles first and restore the ruined cities, the rubble of many generations. Foreigners shall feed your sheep, and strangers shall be your husbandmen and your vinedressers, and you shall be called priests of the LORD, you shall be called ministers of our God, you shall eat the riches of the nations, and with their glory oria you will be sublime. Instead of your double confusion and your dishonor they will praise you in their inheritances, for which in their lands they will possess double honor and have perpetual joy."
Sir, I want this. I want people and I want to highlight a word that says there at the end of verse 6, "... and with his glory you will be sublime" Do you know what? I am not an expert in Spanish, you know it very well, but I like the word sublime. Sublime means that something is precious, something transcendent, something so beautiful that there are no words to describe it. Like when the sun sets over the sea, maybe you are on an island far from Boston and you see a beautiful night, and you say this sunset is sublime. Or maybe you're a fan, an art aficionado, and you're looking at a beautiful painting and you say, "sublime." Maybe you like music, you listen to something by Juan Luis Guerra, and you say, this song is more than cool, it's sublime.
Sublime is something excellent, something that has dignity, something that has majesty.
You know that I have sometimes seen old people in their last days of life and they are there preparing to go to the other world, to the next world. And I look at them and I think, there are several, and I look at them and the word 'majesty' comes to me. It feels almost blasphemous to say majesty of a person, doesn't it? But our God has made us kings and priests. Our God takes his glory, his crown and places it on our heads. And it makes us little kings and queens in God.
Our God makes us shine with the dignity of the spirit in our lives, and I believe that Satan wants the opposite, he wants to humiliate humanity, he wants to degrade humanity and make us feel small and dirty, but our God says, "ah oh, this is my daughter she is precious, he is my son and I have called him to be a priest in the kingdom of God."
And I believe that God calls us to rebuild lives, people, so that they know the power of the Gospel, so that they come to have the sublime glory that God wants for them. He says that the people are ashamed, they are ashamed, they want to hide, right?
You know that my son, speaking of shame, I found him the other day with a pencil and a book doing that and when I came in he saw me and put the pencil down, and he saw me. So he's getting a little smart already, huh? Shame... many of us walk with shame. We thought, don't look at me, no, we hide. Our God says, you can remove the veil and you can shine in my presence. I'm going to give you double honor instead of shame. Double honor and you're going to stand there with your head held high. Not out of pride but out of the dignity of being a child of God.
Instead of the anguished spirit, God will heal the heart and give you the mantle of joy. We've talked about the effect of putting on a fancy suit, right? Putting on a good coat, as one looks at one of those teachers here, which looks like it can be a precedent for the nation, right? God wants to give us a mantle of joy instead of an anguished spirit. God wants to set the captives free.
We believe that the world comes, many come with ties, spiritual ties, mental ties, moral ties in their lives. Things that they can't let go because they have chains there and they can't stop doing certain things, they're stuck in life and our God comes and says, "I have good news for you, I've come to break this chain." We talk about the image of a little bird that is in the cage, the little bird in the cage and then you open the door and the little bird is still there inside the cage and does not come out of the door because it does not know it is free. Our God in the name of Jesus comes and grabs this cage and gives it a good shake, shake. And he says, 'out of there, it's time to fly.'
Going back to what I said at the beginning, rising stars, stars that are rising. Brothers, many of us come so loaded, we come with so many things. Our God comes and says, 'the spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord anointed me, he has sent me to preach news to the downcast.' We believe that the gospel has power, the spirit has power, so you know what? A class does not change anyone. It is the spirit of Jehovah that changes you. That is why what we want to achieve in this church is a combination of the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit combined with study of the word of God.
We want people to come to the services to pray, to seek Him during prayer, we want to see everyone here at the altar, crying out and praying, tears coming out. And after the service taking a class to talk about how I'm going to put into practice what I'm learning. How am I really going to change? Combining the anointing with study and dialogue, it is a powerful combination for life change. Brothers, this works... works. And I personally am addicted to seeing this process, I love to see people glorified in front of our eyes. Clothed with joy, with the Holy Spirit.
And I don't know what you are looking for in life, and I go back to the comment at the beginning, Jesus asks you, "What do you want? What are you looking for?" And I will leave you with this question, because sometimes God does not give us because we do not ask. We do not receive because we do not know how to search. God asks you today, what do you want from me? What are you looking for in life? Our vision is very small, it is time to say I want to be a tree of justice, I want to have the mantle of joy, I want to be a priest king for you and I will not settle for less, Lord. I look for you until you give me what I need, so God honors the person who seeks him with that request. So let's stand up and we're going to close this time praying, right?
Father, in the name of Jesus, we come before you, Lord, and we thank you, Lord, that you are mighty and majestic. And I thank you, Lord, that you, Lord, enjoy sharing your glory, your majesty with humanity. I thank you for each person that you have called, Lord, who has come looking for you, who has dared to believe in the gospel and give themselves to you here and the way that you, Lord, have removed the shadows and you have replaced with a light that shines in the eyes and on the face.
Father, I ask you to come covering us, Lord, with this mantle of joy, I ask you for the transformation of lives and the transformation of the city, Lord. I ask you to make it a reality, Lord, that we can have healing testimonies and that you raise up priests and servants in this church. Lord, thank you that there is not one person who does not have a purpose, thank you that you have a plan for everyone in this church. I ask you for the hidden stars, to rise up, Lord! Let them begin to shine in you, Lord, we give them to you once again.
So in this moment of tranquility, in this moment of peace, we ask the question, what do you want? What do you want from the Lord? What are you looking for from him? We are so focused on problems that we only look for solutions, not knowing that God wants not only to solve problems but also to transform lives. What do you want? tell the Lord in your heart, what do you want from Him, if you want more of Him. If you want to go to another level with Him.
Father, we rest in you on this day. We know, Lord, that you who call us are faithful to perfect the good work that you have begun, that you are faithful to put this crown on the head. We receive this in the name of Jesus, amen. Amen. Amen. Thank God, brothers, may the Lord bless you, may the Lord multiply his power in life. Go in peace, God bless you.
