Summary: The apostle Paul encourages Christians to be wise, not foolish, and to make the most of their time because the days are evil. He instructs them to not get drunk with wine, but to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This filling of the Holy Spirit can be achieved through speaking with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and through praising and giving thanks to God. A person filled with the Holy Spirit is someone who adores the Lord and has a passion for the kingdom of God. Praise and worship are important in unlocking the power of God and preparing the church to receive the word and power of God. God has unleashed a wave of praise and worship in these last days to prepare the church for His move in the world.
This sermon discusses the importance of praise and worship in the church, and how it releases the power of God. The speaker encourages listeners to praise God even in difficult times, and to sing spiritual songs and hymns from the heart. He uses examples from the Bible, such as the story of the woman who anointed Jesus with perfume, to illustrate the power of spontaneous and passionate worship. The speaker also emphasizes the importance of obedience to God, even if it means stepping outside of one's comfort zone.
The prophet Elisha missed an opportunity to completely destroy the enemy because he didn't strike enough times. The voice of the spirit may come in ways that we don't understand, but if we have faith and act on it, God will bless us. The church needs people who are filled with the Holy Spirit and willing to let God work through them. Gifts are developed by exercising them, making mistakes, and taking baby steps. We should take time alone with God to pray and praise Him in our hearts. Speaking in tongues is verbalizing energy and feelings placed in the vessel of language. A person filled with the Holy Spirit is grateful to God and knows that everything they have received is by His grace and mercy alone. God loves a grateful person who spares nothing for Him.
The writer urges readers to seek a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit and to be filled with the Holy Spirit. They particularly address young people, encouraging them to take the call of the Holy Spirit seriously and to sacrifice their dreams and pleasures to put God above all else. The writer believes that if young people do this, God will pour out his treasure upon their lives and use them mightily for his purposes. The word of the Lord for this generation is to be passionate and completely given over to God, walking in full integrity before him.
Quickly to the word of the Lord, Ephesians chapter 5, verse 18. For our visitors, we are completing a series on the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Lord has blessed us greatly through this series and we are trying to seal this precious people with God's call to a life of spiritual vitality, a life of energy, of power, of authority, of spiritual effectiveness.
Ephesians chapter 5, let's start with verse 15 rather, start with verse 15 of Ephesians, it says there: “…be diligent then how you walk, not as fools but as wise, making the most of the time because the days are evil…”
The apostle Paul begins by speaking to the people and says: “…be careful therefore how you walk, not as fools but as wise…” he says: “…do not be foolish but be understood…”
When I hear that word “foolish” I immediately think of the 5 foolish virgins, remember the 5 foolish virgins who did not keep oil in their lamp? Oil is a symbol of the presence, the fullness of God in the Bible, those 5 girls did not take the time to keep their lamps ready for the coming of the husband when he came to visit the family to consummate the weddings, 5 of them were wise and sensible and they had their lamp prepared.
The Bible always invites God's people to be understood about the mysteries of faith. That is why we are preaching about the baptism of the Holy Spirit because the people need, the people of God need to be alerted about the importance of living lives filled with the Holy Spirit and the Lord is saying to the Lion of Judah: be understood, look carefully How are you doing? Let's not walk brothers in a foolish way, let's not walk in a general way, let's not walk in a careless way, let us be attentive to search and to inquire where are the lessons and the truths that God wants us to learn so that we can live victorious lives.
Let's not be foolish, let's take advantage of the time, let's touch, search, ask, because the days are bad. We live in days where if you are not well supplied with the power of God, you are going to have a lot of difficulty surviving in this spiritually heavy world, where there are so many spiritual hosts doing harm, where the devil says like never before, walk like a lion roaring looking for someone to devour.
The days are bad and they were bad when Paul spoke in the midst of the Greco-Roman empire that persecuted the church, at this time there is persecution against the church in other more subtle ways but there are also, and the devil walks blinding the church, subverting and killing the vitality of the church, therefore we must be alert, he says "...therefore be aware of what the will of the Lord is...."
And here it is, here he enters into the matter, this is where I want to go, he says: “…do not get drunk with wine but be filled with the Holy Spirit…”. Do not get drunk with wine in which there is disorder but rather be filled with the Holy Spirit, he is here rephrasing, rethinking the very idea of being understood, of not being foolish, of being diligent and the way to do that is by filling ourselves, be filled with the Holy Spirit.
There is an experience, there is a condition in the Bible, which I am going to outline for you in these minutes that is called the filling of the Holy Spirit, God wants his people to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
And what do you want… how does one get filled with the Holy Spirit? How does one live the filling of the Holy Spirit? Look, he himself gives us the recipe here, he says: "...speaking among you are psalms, with hymns and spiritual songs, singing and praising the Lord in your hearts, always giving thanks for everything to God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…”
What Paul is doing here is simply painting a very hasty picture of a Spirit-filled life, he could have added a number of other qualities and activities of a Spirit-filled person but quickly He pointed out a few here, for example he says: speaking among yourselves, how important it is that our conversation be an edifying conversation. The word of the Lord says that our word is always seasoned with salt, pleasing to the Lord,
There are times when we spend our lives talking about nonsense that does not build anything, on the contrary, conversations as fatuous words say, words in vain, and we talk about everything and glory to God of course, yes, we love sports and glory to God for the Red Socks, I hope they win the championship again but that's good, but there are many Christians who only talk about sports, novels and news and depressing things, but how good it is when we talk to each other about the Holy Spirit, about the word of God, about the Lord's affairs and we build each other up, we share.
When I went up there to greet brother Gilberto and once we started... we didn't talk about the very nice suit and the tie that he has that is so elegant and everything, we immediately got into talking about the ministry. He identified himself as a missionary, introduced me to his children, talked about his experiences in Italy, in Spain, because… time is short, brothers, and when one has a passion for the kingdom of God one immediately goes back to what one came to. One can talk about many things, that's nice but how good it is when we Christians build by speaking of the word of God, what does that do? We build each other up, the spiritual level we have rises.
One can identify a person filled with the Holy Spirit because they have a passion for God, and they always talk about God... it's like a fountain that overflows and is always pouring out blessings, praise, and glory to the Lord, because of the abundance of the heart speaks the mouth.
If your heart is empty of spiritual things you will not speak of spiritual things, but if your heart is filled with spiritual vision and passion for the kingdom of God, the word of God will come out freely from your mouth. And you are going to want to talk about things, about the kingdom of God.
Speaking among yourselves with psalms, those psalms… Paul had only the Old Testament to refer to. I believe that he meant the entire existing word, the entire Scripture at that time; psalm is simply as an example of the word of the Lord, how good it is when our life is based on the word of God, if you want a life filled with the Holy Spirit, brother, you cannot do without the word of the Lord, you have to read the Bible.
My brother, unfortunately for many of us the only time that Bible moves is on Sunday when we pick up a little thing and dust it off last Sunday and pick it up again to take it to church just in case. brothers, and it's not like I'm making you feel guilty or anything, right? But if they feel guilty, maybe it's good, they feel a little guilty.
You have to read the word of God, you have to read the word of the Lord, brothers, without the word of God you do not grow spiritually. You can read a lot of books, look at computers nowadays, on the internet there are amazing resources of tremendous writers, this very morning early in the morning I was reading some of the writings of E.M. Bauns, from A.B. Simpson great men of God of the 19th and 20th century but you know what? None of those writings compare to the direct food of the word of the Lord.
The word of God has nutrients, it's like climbing the tree and picking the fruit directly from the bush. It's the difference between eating a freshly cut steak and a canned food that's been sitting on the supermarket shelf for six months. There is a very big difference, the word of God is a word that has life in it.
Brothers, don't be too far too long from the word of the Lord, you need to eat from the word of God, keep your Bible active, keep your Bible in use, the Lord doesn't mind if you underline and that the pages... I love to see those Bibles that are bruised and with the pages all destroyed around there and the back part and the... as they say... the cover, the cover all torn, etc., because it is being used, that honors the Lord. Use your Bible, mark it, write notes on it, because there is power in that.
It says that “.....speaking among yourselves with psalms, with hymns....” what does it refer to there? the life of praise to the Lord, how else can you live a life filled with the Holy Spirit? Praising and glorifying the name of the Lord, Amen.
There is something that unleashes the power of God when we praise and adore the Lord, there is something that heats up inside the spirit when you start to raise a choir in the morning and your voice cracks because it's still dry and there shrunken, but you begin to worship the Lord and the vocal chords begin to loosen and that sad and gloomy cracking becomes a beautiful praise to the Lord little by little, God is glorified, that's what is called a sacrifice of praise to the Lord.
Brothers, the person filled with the Holy Spirit is a person who likes to worship the Lord. God is never far from praise, and God loves a people that adores him, a people that takes time to sing, to adore him. Why do we take time? We could spend two choirs there quickly and we go back to what we came from and that's it, but it takes time to enter the most holy place, in the place of God's intimacy. You have to go through secularity and fatigue and distraction and if you are focused on praise little by little you go down, down like a submarine until you reach the deepest parts of the presence of God and there then you begin to do things in their life. There God meets you, there God speaks to you, there God challenges you, there God confronts you, there God heals you, there God begins to move with power in your life, and you come out refreshed or maybe you come out sweaty, any of the two is fine, because the Lord… you had an encounter with the Lord, because God did something in your life.
But you have to adore the Lord, a person filled with the Holy Spirit, praise comes freely from his mouth, and a person filled, a church filled with the Holy Spirit knows that to adore the Lord, to praise the Lord, is absolutely important.
There is a passage where Elisha is in the desert between the army of Israel and two kings are lost in the desert, they ran out of water, their horses, the army is ready to die of thirst, and one of the kings who is a God fearing man says: will there not be a prophet of God here among this great army? And it is not known how, but Elisha was stuck there, they call Elisha and the Bible says that Elisha called what is called a drummer before prophesying, what is a drummer? A player was probably a person who played a percussion instrument or a harp or a tambourine or a drum, we don't know but he put that man to play, he put him to play first, he put him to praise first, because where is the praise there is something that releases the anointing and blessing of God.
Then when that man had played, Elisha prophesied and declared waters that came from different places and says that all the pools that had been empty were filled, they were filled with water for the people to drink... the armies and not all those men die, because where praise is… one… the people of God must use praise as a platform to evoke the presence of God.
It's a key, don't ask me why, they are mysteries of God. One would think that he would not need those things but it is in the Bible and I cannot be holier than the Bible let me tell you, nor more understanding of the mysteries of God.
When one adores the Lord, when one praises, I think that what that does is that that layer, that hard crust of reason and secularity and time and space, the mind away from God, the carnal mind, the mind absorbed by the cares and the struggle of life, through praise the spirit is warmed, through praise the hard mentality that cannot receive the word of the Lord is diluted and dissipated, it softens, it massages the spirit and then the spirit warms up and then it can receive the emanations of God that are there waiting for someone who understands and receives them and can act on it, do you understand?
That is why the praise of God's people is so important, both collectively and a life that understands the mysteries of praise.
In these last days of the church when God wants to do great things in the world, God has unleashed a wave of praise like never before in history. All this music of praise and adoration has come at this time to prepare the church, to receive the word and power and the move of God at this time, that is why the great revivals of praise and adoration in Australia, in New Zealand , God is doing tremendous things through praise and worship. In America, the places where God has moved have always been accompanied by great praise and worship.
And interestingly in the 18th century when there was a great revival, the great awakening right here in Massachusetts with Jonathan Edwards and then in the second great revival in the 19th century, there was always a revival in praise and worship. .
Did you know that here in New England and in Europe for many years the Puritan Calvinist church believed that praising the Lord with instruments and songs and having decorations in churches was against God's will? and God had to take him out of that captivity and teach them that no, that God likes praise, that he likes music, that he likes instruments.
A church that worships the Lord is a church where the Holy Spirit of the Lord can rest. A person who learns the secrets of worship has great power, when there is difficulty in your life, when you feel sad, when you feel tired, when there is no reason in your life to praise the Lord, that is when you should praise the most. to the Lord, when there is sterility in your life, do not wait to feel the desire to praise, adore him by faith, praise the Lord by faith.
There is a chorus that says: praise God when things go well for you How good it is to praise God when you don't have any problems, what a good thing, but if you praise him among your brokenness, that holy Christ moves within you, amen.
Hallelujah, when we praise the Lord of the entrails simply because he deserves to be praised and I say to him: my soul, praise the Lord as the psalmist says, my soul, praise the Lord even if you don't feel it, praise him anyway
What does Isaiah 54 say? says "... rejoice, oh barren, the one who did not give birth, raises song and shouts for joy, the one who has never been in labor, because the children of the forsaken are more than those of the married, the Lord has said..." The spirit told him says to a barren woman who has never given birth, praise the Lord, glorify the Lord, and that praise releases God's blessing.
Did you know that praise releases the power of God and that you don't need to be hot to praise the Lord? if you feel cold, praise him, then it is when God glorifies himself the most in that praise that comes from a position of faith, a position that simply knows that to open a door you do not have to believe if the key works or not, be happy that Do you have a key or not, be depressed or happy, you put the key in the slot and the door opens, yes or no? Regardless.
When there is faith in God, faith does not have to be an emotion, faith is simply an acknowledgment of the word of God, what God says, you act in faith and that faith is what does the work .
Praise the Lord “…speaking among yourselves with psalms, with hymns, praise and says and spiritual songs, spiritual songs….” Is this redundant? Is it just another way of saying hymns?
Many more intelligent and learned commentators than myself have suggested that the idea of spiritual songs, and there are texts that support this, is to sing in the spirit sing, sing how? sing in tongues The apostle Paul speaks that if I pray with the understanding or if I sing with the understanding or in the spirit... when one speaks many times of singing or praying in the spirit in Pauline language, that means singing in tongues because of the context in which Paul explains This is not one hundred percent clear, but that is very… contextually it is the most natural and safest interpretation.
When he talks about spiritual songs he is talking about those free songs, those songs in tongues, those spontaneous songs, they are not the songs that we sing here already prescribed and glory to God for them, but does your brother know that your you can in the spirit be a composer for God and sing to the Lord also your own words of love, you know? And those are the most beautiful words I believe before the heart of God, the words that you sing to the Lord about how grateful you are, how loving you feel towards your God, the things he has done, those words are worth more than the writings of Bach or Beethoven or Mendelsohn or those great composers, Handel with his messiah.
Look, praise from the heart, from a grateful heart is worth more to the Lord than an exalted composition from someone who was perhaps a thousand miles away spiritually when he wrote it.
Many of the praises that were written in the centuries of western history were written by men who were simply writing because that was how it was done culturally at that time, they were not men of faith and they wrote masses, and they wrote different classical compositions and it doesn't mean... but when a person filled with the Holy Spirit, full of love for the Lord, full of gratitude decides to praise the Lord with their own words, the heart of God is inevitably touched by it.
Spiritual songs are songs that come from the heart, from the soul, songs that are not pre-established, spontaneous songs. God loves spontaneity in praise, God loves worship that comes out unprepared, that comes out of a position of faith.
Listen, how delicate and risky it is when you stand here in front of hundreds of people and God tells me: praise me and start singing and I don't know what I'm going to say and I don't know what to do next It's coming, I'm finishing a sentence and I don't know what's coming next, but I just have to listen to the spirit of God and praise Him.
That is something... I have not looked for that, that is not something that I have programmed for myself but that God has been doing it through time and that I find that it is a blessing for my life and I believe which is also a blessing for the church.
When a call is made, brothers, we are going to raise our voices and sing new songs to the Lord. Did you hear that word new songs? That idea of a song that comes out fresh, is a hallmark card that you have written with a personal message for your name, for your God, for your lover, for Christ Jesus.
Listen to me, the praise that is drawn from a passionate and creative heart towards God is a special praise. I am thinking specifically of someone in the word of the Lord. Do you remember that disreputable woman in the Bible who came before Jesus with an alabaster vase full of perfume and broke it and poured that vase of perfume on the Lord's head and shed tears of thanks because the Lord had delivered her from a life of perversion and that she dried the tears she had shed on the body of her lover with her own hair? And there was a man there, a religious Pharisee, a Pharisee who complied with the letter of the law, a Pharisee who had given the Lord only a religious and basic reception, he did not wash his feet, he did not kiss him as was the custom to honor to an important visitor, he did not invite him to sit in the chosen place in his house, he simply invited him to see what he was saying.
And there was that man devoid of the understanding of the spirit looking at this woman, full of passion, inventing praise with an alabaster vase because there was nothing in all the Pharisee writing that said that the Lord was praised with an alabaster vase with perfume, that was dictated by the Holy Spirit to her and she gave a spiritual song, an invented praise of the moment, fresh taken out... bread taken out of the oven at that moment and she adored her Master with that perfume.
And do you know what the Lord told him? The Pharisee was looking at him because the religious church sees the people of God worshiping him with joy, with joy, with originality and says: these are crazy, these are excessive, they are exaggerated, they are not elegant, they are not worthy, look how strident, look at it what screamers
People who do not have the Holy Spirit do not understand the importance of moving and praising the Lord in the spirit. When David danced before the whole crowd for his joy at seeing the ark of God enter Jerusalem again, Michal, who was there, his wife, a king's daughter, dignified, well-bred, very elegant, very aware of her nobility, he saw David take off his clothes and dance in his shorts in front of all the people, before CNN and the entire nation's television and said: listen to me how you have been ashamed, how you have lowered yourself, the king, the president of the nation dancing as if he were a young man from a disco there in front of the whole world, and David told him: it was before my God that I did it, and I hope it made me even more vile, said David.
Mical remained barren for the rest of his life, he never had children because the religious church that does not praise the Lord in spirit and in truth does not have children, is not effective in praise, is not effective in Adoration is not effective in evangelism, it is not effective in the movement of the Holy Spirit, it remains sterile and David told him, it was God who preferred me before your Father, I was the daughter of Saul because God prefers the heart of a man dedicated to a woman who loves the Lord.
David was a man with many flaws, he made serious and serious mistakes but he had a heart that desperately loved God, and God wanted that man to serve and praise him.
Then that woman... God told her... the Lord Jesus told the woman, he told the Pharisee, you did not do any of those things to me, and this woman since I came in has not stopped shedding perfume on my body, she has blessed me with her tears, she has dried her tears with her hair and this she says she has done, she has anointed me for my burial.
This woman did not know that she was prophetically participating in an act of cosmic, historical proportions, and that she was prophesying in advance the anointing of the defenseless body of the crucified Christ and that she was anointing him for his burial, she was acting carrying out a prophetic act of the body that would be anointed with spices and washed after his death.
Why? because when you praise the Lord in the spirit, when you dare to take tentative steps of faith and begin to praise the Lord and pray and worship in the spirit, when you open your mouth... sometimes we say: look God has anointed you , you have cried, you have asked for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, open your mouth and by faith speak in tongues, and people say no, first an angel has to come and say: say rabacaza or say < i>carabayanda and then I'm going to say it; no, you have to open your mouth in faith, open your mouth, you're going to panic, you're going to feel ridiculous, you're going to feel ashamed, you're going to feel like a fool but you know what? In those crucifixions there is power.
When man and woman crucify their self, crucify their sense of dignity, crucify their sense of reason, crucify their sense of what makes sense and they do it because God says so in that death there is resurrection and there is blessing.
The power of God can flow through that void that you open to the Lord and God can then speak through you and do things that you don't even understand you're doing.
That woman there, with a small audience of people, was doing something that would be witnessed and seen by billions of people throughout two thousand years as we are doing here today. She did not understand that but moved by the spirit she offered the Lord a perfect adoration, coming from the heart of God to honor the Christ who was to be crucified, spiritual songs, let us adore the Lord in Spirit, in truth.
When God tells you to do something, do it, when God tells you to talk to someone, talk to him, and even if you make a fool of yourself but do it, it's better to make a fool of yourself trying to do God's will than maintain yourself with all dignity and lose the opportunity to be used by God. How good it is when we are obedient to the Lord and do things that don't make sense but have the power of God locked up in it.
Once King Joash came, I think his name was, to visit Elisha on his death bed, the great prophet of God, and Elisha with the little energy he still had and still had a little left of prophetic impulse he told the king: take some arrows in your hands, take some arrows, take some arrows in your hands and the king took out a few arrows, I imagine he had them or asked one of his soldiers, his bodyguards to gave him a few arrows and said: now take those arrows in your hand and hit the ground and the king will have said: well, it seems that the disease attacked him very seriously, the poor man probably has Alzheimer's, right? But I'm going to do it to please him and to please him so there, differently, he hit the ground a couple of times with those blessed arrows.
And I imagine the prophet of God stood up from his bed, still full of the prophetic strength that he had left and said: innocent, you idiot probably told him, if you had struck four or five times it would have destroyed completely to the Syrians, the most terrible enemy that Israel had, but now since you only hit twice, twice you are going to defeat them. He missed the greatest opportunity of his life, it is as if the United States during the cold war could have destroyed all of Russia and wiped it off the map completely at no cost.
They missed the opportunity, he missed the opportunity because he did not discern, he was not a man of the spirit, he did not discern the moment of God, he did not discern that if he acted on the word of the prophet, God was there at that moment and what God wanted to do he was going to make a conduit for the will of God to run through history at that moment, and he could not do it because he did not discern the spirit, he did not listen to the voice of the spirit.
Many times the voice of the spirit will come in ways that you don't even understand, the impulse of the spirit will come here confused with other thoughts, wrapped in a mental package with other ideas and other things but if You have faith, look, believe that what is there make it yours, believe it, this is from the Lord and act on it, and you will see that God is going to bless you. You have to discern the spirit, you have to move in the spirit, you have to live in the spirit, you have to act in the spirit.
God wants to do great things through the church at this time and he is waiting for vehicles, he is waiting for instruments to move, men and women filled with the Holy Spirit capable of discerning the move of God at a given moment in time. their lives and that they are willing to let God work and God move, become instruments.
And brothers, the prophetic move of God is not necessarily accompanied by heralds with trumpets, it comes humbly, it comes through the move of your soul, of your spirit.
You have to discern and you have to dare and take steps of faith in the name of the Lord, start walking by faith.
How do you fan the fire of God's gift in you? Just blowing it, acting, rehearsing, striving, taking baby steps, stammering, making mistakes, stumbling, experimenting until you get stronger and start to truly discern the voice of God in your life but you have to be willing to make a fool of yourself first You have to be willing to be uncomfortable first, you have to be willing to be wrong from time to time.
Many people do not enter into God's prophetic move because they want everything already ready, prepared and completely well done and it is not like that, all gifts are developed by exercising them.
How did Billy Graham become the great preacher who evangelized millions of people on earth? Making baby efforts.
Billy Graham writes in his biography that the first time he preached he says that he took… they invited him to preach and he took 5 sermons just in case he ran out of one before the time was up, right? ? He says that he preached the 5 sermons in about 10 minutes and then he had nothing more to preach. But what work did that man do afterwards, the gift of an evangelist, right?
The gift of an evangelist is developed by exercising it, educating it, studying it, as well as the gift of the prophet, the gift of the apostle, the gift of the teacher, the gift of the pastor, all these gifts are exercised and developed by exercising them, that is why the apostle Paul tells Timothy, 'I advise you to fan into fire the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands.'
The gift of God comes into your life and then you have to exercise it to develop it and in that exercise and practice you are going to make mistakes, you are going to... you are going to miss it many times, but you are also going to to hit the nail on the head and your life will see that yes, that it is real and then you will continue to grow in the use of the gift and you will affirm yourself more and you will have more use of the gift.
Gifts are developed by using them brothers, that's the mystery isn't it?
Then, “..... psalms, hymns, speaking among yourselves, with spiritual songs, singing and praising the Lord in your hearts...”
I see Here is something interesting, in your hearts, because many times we believe that the only praise that is given to the Lord is public praise, praise here when we collectively meet. And for many of our brothers, the only time in which they are really praising the Lord is when they are in church, we still have that remnant, with all due respect I say of the Catholic Church, where one only remembers God when going to church. church on Sunday for a quickly soaked mass, and then we don't think again until next Sunday... 20 minutes and let the priest hurry up because I have to go home to eat quickly, and that's all many times, right? ?
And brothers, whoever depends solely on the church for their spiritual life is lost, whoever depends only even on being with brothers, there are people who like to pray but do not pray unless they have someone else with whom pray more and are always looking for people to pray with, but you know what? God also likes that you pray, adore and serve in your personal privacy, sometimes with unspeakable words as the Bible says, with unspeakable groans, sometimes in bed at 2 in the morning when you stayed up all night.
Look, instead of thinking about things that make you anxious, I say this from personal experience, start praying, you stay up all night at three in the morning... how many can say amen to that?
Listen, look at how many insomniacs there are here at church, I'm in good company, but you know what? In those times when you are there, between dream and reason, take that time to praise the Lord, take that time to adore him, take that time to pray, present your family, present your church, present your community, your problem present them to the Lord, confess the presence of God, the power of God, the good will of God for your life.
Look, go in and out of sleep and when you come to see, it's 8 in the morning, the little birds are singing, you fell asleep and didn't even realize when you did.
For me the best sleeping pill is prayer, sometimes when I start to pray and in a moment, I'm already lost in sleep. How good it is to fall asleep praying. That is interesting, many times the best way for you to get a good refreshing sleep, take a little time to pray first, get into your bed, put that quilt on here around your neck, and then start praying to the Lord, start talking to him , start praising him, put on a soft little song by Marcos Witt or one of those singers and let the little angels of God come and take you there to the heavenly throne. I assure you that neither nightwill nor any other medicine like that is going to do what it does, right?
“.....In your hearts...”, you have to take time alone with God to pray with those unspeakable groans. Look, there are times when the only thing left to praise the Lord is a moan, has that happened to you? There are times when there is so much pain in your heart, there is so much difficulty in your life, there is such a lack of wisdom on how to pray that the only thing you can do is moan, do you know that a moan is the purest form of communication I believe what does a human have? it's the moan, because the moan is just air and sound, that's all, it doesn't have… it doesn't have verbs, it doesn't have grammar, you don't use anything except mmmm, something comes out, all you're doing is air and strings vocals, that's it, it's communication reduced to its most fundamental level of all and guess what? God is a perfect interpreter of moans, he speaks moans perfectly well, that's a language even if you don't know it, moans is called.
Use that language, moan to the Lord, when you don't know how to pray, moan. Where does the benefit of tongues come from? Languages is simply a mysterious language that does not depend on a pre-established grammar, does not depend on a human format, does not depend on anything pre-made, it is simply the individual in contact with something that he himself does not understand about his own being, verbalizing pure things , before a God capable of interpreting the simplest and darkest things of the movement of the human soul. That is the languages.
And let me tell you, artists and modern poetics, modern literature that has come a long way, linguistics and other things, the more modern and advanced poetry has become, the more it has come into speak in tongues.
Look how interesting... there are modernist poets and poems that are pure nonsense, dadaist poets and other modernist poets, surrealists and those... the more modern poetry and literature comes to press against the walls of its genre more enter into the abuse and experimentation with language, because… what are they doing? Trying to push language, take it to its maximum capacity to express the unspeakable, the artistic experience, the poetic experience, the spiritual experience that language cannot encompass.
Then they take and begin to force the language, it's like taking a vase and kicking it to widen it so that it fits more inside it, and all expressions that seek depth and agility and the ability to encompass have to enter in the experimental, you have to enter into babble, you have to talk nonsense, and depend on that nonsense to express what is inside the human being.
And that intuition that poets have taken thousands of years to discover has already been discovered in the word of the Lord 2000 years ago.
Speaking in tongues is simply verbalizing energy, language is that, language is verbalized energy, that's all. I am not a linguist but I can tell you that this is a good definition, it is energy, feelings, impressions, placed in the vessel of language.
And when we speak in tongues what we are saying: Lord, I myself do not know what I am feeling but you are able to interpret it. Doesn't the Bible say that the spirit of God guides us with unspeakable groans when we don't know what to say to the Lord? speaking in our hearts, speaking in your hearts, praising the Lord in your hearts.
A life filled with the Holy Spirit, a life possessed by the power of God and moving in the energy of God, continually speaking about the things of God, speaking the word of the Lord, speaking and worshiping to the Lord with hymns, speaks and worships the Lord with songs and original expressions of the spirit, sings and praises the Lord in season and out of season, in private or in public and is guided by the inexpressible groans of the Holy Spirit and always gives thanks for everything to God and Father.
A person filled with the Holy Spirit is a grateful person, he is a person who knows that nothing he has is his, and that nothing he has received has been earned but by grace and the mercy of God alone, a person is... what did he say... amen.
What did the Lord say to Simon, the Pharisee, when this woman adored him with her simple but very profound praise? He said: this woman, since she was forgiven a lot, loved a lot, you see?
And it is something brother, when you know where God has taken you from, when you know everything that you have received from God undeservedly, the only thing that will remain is a desire to praise him and give thanks to the Mister.
Do you know how you know when a person is filled with the Holy Spirit? When he is a person who is grateful to God, when he is a person who gives glory to God for all things, when he is a person who knows that God pulled him out of the miry mud and put his feet on a rock and straightened his step and that's it. like a slave that wherever the Lord takes him... he is like a grateful little dog... that what God wants to do with him, he will do it because he knows that his life belongs only to God.
When the Gadarene demoniac was freed from his demonic chain, he came to Jesus and said: Lord, I want to go with you, let me go with you, you have seen those children who stick to their fathers or mothers and who they want to be taken with them wherever they go and they scream when daddy leaves them.
A person who is grateful to the Lord, a person who knows who God is, is a person who has delivered everything at the feet of the Lord, is a person who no longer lives for himself who says like Paul: no longer I live, but Christ lives in me, because he is a person who knows, as Paul knew, that he is the worst of sinners and even so, God saved him and called him to his service.
Oh how God loves the grateful person, how God loves the person who spares nothing, what God wants he gives it to him, what God asks he gives it to him before he even asks for it even, because he is grateful for what God has done in his life.
Let's stand up, I ask that the musicians come through here. That is a life filled with the Holy Spirit, I assure you brothers, that word that you have just received is the word of God because I did not come here to preach about it, I came to preach about the filling of the Holy Spirit but listen to the sermon of 9 o'clock and you will see that it is totally different from this, but it is the same thing, it is the filling of the Holy Spirit, the life filled with the Holy Spirit, we will talk more about it later, but it is the word that God wants for your life , is the freshly baked bread that God wants for your life. Cultivate these attitudes, cultivate these practices.
If you feel far from God and the courts of the Lord do not attract your attention, perhaps it is time for you to look again for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit, a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit in your life If you don't feel the power that the Bible says a son of God, a daughter of God should have, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you.
He was filled with the Holy Spirit, he was filled with the Holy Spirit, say with me: I want, I want to be filled with the Holy Spirit, Lord fill me, Lord visit me, Lord anoint me with your spirit. I want your fullness, visit me, hallelujah, thank you Lord, thank you God.
Ask the Holy Spirit for a moment to fill you, ask the Holy Spirit to baptize you, ask the Holy Spirit to make his water run inside you, hallelujah we adore you Lord, we bless you, we bless you Lord, we want to be filled with your holy spirit, we want more, refresh us Lord with your water.
Oh we love your enclosure Father, we love your word, we love the presence and movement of your holy spirit Lord, oh we bless you Father, we adore you, we glorify you, glorify the Lord and give thanks to God, that That word gets deep…
Let that word of God see deeply into your spirit, the Holy Spirit of God wants you to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I always find myself addressing the young people, the young of our church, because God desperately wants you to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Young people, the times are evil for you particularly, the enemy is out to get you, the enemy is out to possess you, the enemy is out to corrupt you, the enemy is out to defile you.
You are living in a perverse time in the history of humankind and for you to walk as the Lord wants you to walk, you will need a special anointing, you will need a special seal, like those animals that are in the sea, they have a special coding and oily coding that allows them to glide to the water and also warms their bodies in the midst of the very cold oceans.
And I am telling you right now that God wants to put an anointing an oil all over you and inside of you to protect you, to cover you and to warm you up, as you walk in a very arid, in a very cold, deathly cold generation and you want to make of you men and women of God capable of receiving the emanation from the throne of heaven and the message that he wants to send to you, but that will not come unless you are filled with the spirit, unless you have the Holy Spirit of God poured all over you and I urge you in the name of Jesus Christ to go and procure oil and wine from the deposits of the throne of God and to ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with its flame, with its fire, with its water and to pour its rain upon you.
I beg you in the name of Jesus Christ do not take lightly the call of the Holy Spirit in your life. You are receiving much and much will be expected from you so I call on you in the name of Jesus Christ, do not be lukewarm, do not be a covert Christian, do not live a double life.
Hear are the word of the Lord right now, the Lord is saying I want passionate, passionate young, I want a passionate young generation.
I want men, young men and young women completely given over to me and my claims of Lordship over their lives, and if they take me seriously I will take them seriously and I will bless them and I will send my oil, I will send my spirit upon them, I will send my new wine upon them I will make giants of them, I will make of them a Gideon generation, I will make of them powerful, powerful witnesses for me.
Wherever they go my signs and my wonders will follow them and wherever they speak my word will speak powerfully through them and many will come to a saving knowledge of my Son, and I will prepare the harvest and I will prepare the time for the coming of my Son, but they must take seriously, they must walk in full integrity before me and they must pay the price and they must sacrifice their dreams, and they must sacrifice their pleasures and they must sacrifice all those things that they value so much and put me above them all, and if they do that I will pour my treasure upon their lives and I will design to use them and I will use them mightily like I have not use many other generation before or after.
This is the word of the Lord for you, young people, receive in the name of Jesus, receive in the name of Jesus. Pay the price, pay the price, pay the price, take God seriously. Ask the Lord to rip all the coverings that are not pleasing to him from you, and let your bare heart be touched by the hand of God and set on fire for him, this is the word of the Lord.
Yes Lord, we adore you and bless you Lord, we thank you Father for your words Lord, put your word deep in our hearts, we want to be a people pleasing to you Lord, we want to be a people who bring a smile, Lord, to your Father's wounded heart Pour out your spirit on this generation Lord, we want to see your glory, we want to see your name installed Lord on this earth, we want the flag of Jesus waving over the roofs of New England and of this Father nation , for the glory of Jesus, thank you Lord, we adore you, we bless you, thank you Lord, thank you.
