First Love's Fire

Deuteronomy 6:5 • 1 John 4:19

When Your light broke through the night, a fascination stirred My weary spirit took its flight, by grace, my soul conferred The burdens of the world released, a peace I'd never known Your healing touch, it brought me ease, upon Your love I'm sown My heart, it found a brand new beat, forever bound to You The old was gone, the bitter-sweet, made glorious and new.

Oh, we love, because You first loved us, so freely, deeply true With all our heart and soul and strength, our everything for You This isn't just a fleeting spark, a moment to embrace It's the very core that lights our dark, Your everlasting grace.

I counted days for Sunday's dawn, for fellowship and praise The brother's hug, the sacred song, through weary, waiting haze The melodies like living fire, rekindled every dream A call to serve, a pure desire, a never-ending stream But sometimes, Lord, the path grows dim, routine begins to creep Our acts, though good, lose love for Him, the promises we keep.

Do you recall that tender touch, the first embrace, so pure? When hungrily you sought so much, His Word, your only cure? When in sublime prayer, His face you saw, or served with zealous might? The joy that held you in its awe, consumed by holy light? We often stray, our zeal grows cold, forgetting where we began But He calls us back, a story told, to love as only He can.

Oh, we love, because You first loved us, so freely, deeply true With all our heart and soul and strength, our everything for You This isn't just a fleeting spark, a moment to embrace It's the very core that lights our dark, Your everlasting grace.

So let us turn, back to the start, the seed where fervor burned To first love's fire within the heart, a lesson to be learned. Not just an option, but our call, our endless, true desire To give our Redeemer our all, fueled by His sacred fire.
