Summary: In 1728, Count Zinzendorf started the tradition of daily "Watchwords" or "Losungen" with a message about Jesus' sacrifice for us out of love. Dios Habla Hoy continues this tradition by offering daily reflections and Bible verses to encourage conversations with God and other believers. The verses from Jeremiah and Titus remind us of God's love and grace towards us, and we should give thanks for the moments that remind us of this grace in our lives. We should also share God's love with those around us and strive to live lives that reflect his goodness.
On the evening of May 3, 1728, Count Zinzendorf shared a brief message with the Herrnhut community that would kick off the tradition of daily "Watchwords" or "Losungen." The message was inspired by the verse of the song "Love drove him, love tore him from the throne, and shouldn't I love him?" It is a reminder of the great sacrifice that Jesus made out of love for us, leaving His heavenly throne to come to earth and die for our sins.
Zinzendorf called the daily watchwords "continuous conversations of our Savior with the community." Dios Habla Hoy stands on the spiritual shoulders of Count von Zinzendorf and the Moravian community. Each morning we offer the reflection and two Bible verses as a starting point to encourage daily reflection and conversation with our Savior and with like-minded believers around the world.
The verses from Jeremiah 33:11 and Titus 2:11 further illustrate the depth of God's love and grace toward us. In Jeremiah, God promises his people healing and peace, reminding us of his love even when we have strayed from him. In Titus, we read of God's grace that brings salvation and teaches us to live controlled, righteous, and godly lives. This grace is a gift that we do not deserve, but is freely given to us because of God's love for us.
As we reflect on God's gift and grace, we are invited to consider the little or big things that have recently happened in our lives that remind us of God's everlasting goodness and grace. Maybe it's a moment of unexpected kindness from a stranger, or the way a difficult situation turned out for the best. Whatever it is, let's take time to acknowledge and give thanks for these graceful moments in our lives.
And just as the Moravian community has faithfully shared daily Bible verses for nearly 300 years, we must also strive to share God's love with those around us and live lives that reflect his grace and goodness. As you reflect on these conversations with the Savior, you may want to include your friends or coworkers in the conversation. Consider forwarding an email or leaving a comment on the website to continue the dialogue and share God's love with those around you.
May God continue to bless us with his grace and mercy as we seek to walk in his ways and reflect his love to the world around us.
