Summary: We often ignore spiritual signs and pursue attractive opportunities that are not in line with God's plans for our lives. The Bible teaches that obedience is better than sacrifice and it is safer to be within God's will. Before making any important decision, we should inquire about God's will and align our actions with His principles. Going against God's will is a recipe for disaster and disobedience can only produce failure. It is wise to humbly orient ourselves towards God's will and strictly obey His Word.
How many times have we been presented with a financial opportunity, a purchase offer, or a romantic opportunity that seemed too promising to reject, despite spiritual signs everywhere telling us, "Get away as soon as possible!" Quite simply, that attractive possibility that seemed to promise so much was not in sync with God's plans for our lives. We stubbornly pursued our decision anyway, simply because it was too attractive to reject, despite clearly understanding that we were proceeding in disobedience. Sooner or later, we remember, the negative consequences were felt, and we had to go to God, battered and ashamed, to rescue us.
Someone has said: "When God puts a full stop, don't put a question mark." God has declared: "Obedience is better than sacrifice." The safest place for the child of God is within his will. The false promises of disobedience do not compare to the assurance of dwelling and moving within divine approval.
The Bible declares: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death" (Proverbs 14:12). We have already seen that the believer does not process reality in the same way as those who do not know God. The wise person, before making any important decision, inquires about the will of God. The Apostle James declares (James 4: 13-15):
13 Let's go now! those who say: Today and tomorrow we will go to such a city, and we will be there for a year, and we will traffic, and we will win;
14 when you do not know what will be tomorrow. Because what is your life? It is certainly haze that appears for a little while, and then fades away.
Instead of which you should say: If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.
The sober opinion of the psalmist reminds us that the only solid foundation for life is in aligning our actions with the will of God (Psalms 127: 1 and 2):
1 Unless the LORD builds the house, Those who build it labor in vain; If the Lord does not guard the city, the guard is watching in vain.
2 For rest is that you get up at dawn, and go late to rest, and eat the bread of sorrows; Well, God will give his beloved sleep.
Through hard experience, I have learned in my ministry and in my personal life that before making any decision I must ask myself: "Does this flow in affinity with the principles of God's word, or with His specific will for my life?" If I cannot answer this question in the affirmative, the only legitimate alternative for me is to discard that option, and decide in favor of the divine will.
Going against God's will, no matter how nice or promising it may seem at first, is a surefire recipe for disaster! This disobedient action, promising at first, is a mere mirage, a fatuous promise that in the end only knows how to deliver disappointment and disappointment. Mathematically, disobedience can only produce failure. In obvious or subtle ways, in the short term or long term, whether we realize it or not, stubbornly pursuing our own paths will produce loss. It is an insurmountable law of the universe.
Wise is the person who humbly orients himself through life, inquiring first from God before embarking on any undertaking, strictly obeying the manual of the Word, and abiding without questioning the divine judgment.
