Summary: Jabes asked the Lord for a blessing and to widen his territory, which can be interpreted as asking for greater opportunities and a wider scope to operate in. The Bible encourages us to broaden our horizons and take entrepreneurial initiatives, and not to settle for small things. God blesses those who dream big for His glory and ask Him to expand their capacity and influence.

It is an inheritance of all the children of God that when we enter the ways of the Lord the sails of our boat will flow with the blessed and prosperous wind from the Lord and that we have the right to expect good things, and what is more, we must hope good things that are going to happen in our lives because waiting for God's blessing becomes a prophetic energy that attracts precisely that blessing from God.

If you do not ask the Lord because you do not expect to receive anything you will not receive anything, you have to expect good things from God and you have to ask for good things from the Lord, and that includes the expression of Jabes "if you gave me a blessing" in a global sense of what the word blessing is.

Jabes asks for blessing from the Lord as if he were saying: "Father if my whole life were conceived in Your mind within a Word of success, prosperity, effectiveness in everything I undertake, what a blessing it would be". The second thing that Jabes asks, he says: "And you will widen my territory." I want to dwell on that word "widen". I believe that Jabes is referring to God giving him a greater scope in which to move. He wants to get out of the small realm that he occupies and into a greater realm of prominence.

I believe he was envisioning a higher profile in his community, perhaps greater things to undertake in our own lives. In our case it would be: if I could study and go to university. If you have a degree, let's say a good baccalaureate, if you could take a master's degree or a doctorate. If you had a church: Lord, if my church could grow for Your glory and if we could have a more developed profile in the community, if my ministry could enter other levels of effectiveness before You, right? if my understanding of Your Word were greater or deeper.

The idea is that we do not settle for our present, we do not settle for what is limited many times in our lives and dare to conceive greater areas to operate, and God does not mind that we are ambitious for His glory; what's more, the Bible continually encourages us to broaden the site of our place and I am thinking specifically of the Book of Ecclesiastes, let me see if I get it here quickly.

Ecclesiastes, one of the passages that I like a lot for my ministry, for my life is Ecclesiastes. Chapter 11. It says: "Cast your bread on the water because after many days you will find it. Divide to 7 and even to 8 because you do not know the evil that will come on earth." Later in verse 6 of Ecclesiastes 11 it says: "In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening do not let your hand rest, because you do not know which is the best, if this or that, or if the one and the other is equally good."

What the writer of Ecclesiastes is inviting the reader to is to live an entrepreneurial life, right? throw your bread into the water, throw your seed, undertake new things, take initiatives because you don't know how good can come of it. Many times we stop investing in our life and doing new things because we have already condemned ourselves to failure and the writer of Ecclesiastes says: hey, you don't know what can come of applying for a different job or asking for a more position. discharge from your current job, or start a new evangelistic program for your Church. Throw your seed, distribute your bread to seven or eight and that will allow your life to have a greater breadth.

I also think of Isaiah chapter 54 where the Prophet Isaiah invites us, he says: "Widen" the same word that Jabes uses, "Widen the place of your tent and the curtains of your rooms are extended; Do not be scarce, lengthen your cords and reinforce your stakes because you will stretch out to the left hand and to the right hand, and your descendants will inherit nations, and you will inhabit the desolate cities. " This idea of widening the space of our room is so powerful, a beautiful image. Continually the Word of God is inviting us to dream of something greater and to take specific initiatives, to be entrepreneurial, because God is willing to bless our efforts.

In Jeremiah chapter 29 the Prophet Jeremiah invites the people not to become small, he says to buy houses, to give their children in marriage, to plant gardens, the Lord says: "Because I know the thoughts that I have for you, thoughts of good and not bad. " So God calls us as children of God not to be scarce, not to be conservative, not to be shy, not to settle for small things, to widen our place and ask God to expand our capacity, increase our influence.

He who dreams that way for the glory of God and not for carnal purposes, brothers, God blesses him and I believe that it is important that like Jabes, we ask the Lord to expand the site of our territory. God bless you and until our next meditation.
