Summary: God has the power to heal all diseases, but miraculous healing doesn't always occur. We should respect God's sovereignty when asking for or expecting a miracle. A physician who returned to the Lord at age 60 was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. He realized his main concern was not being able to teach his children how a Christian lives. The pastor told him that if a miracle doesn't happen, he can teach his children how a Christian dies. The man lived only a couple of weeks after that conversation, but during that time, he demonstrated the value of faith in facing death with peace and courage. God can also strengthen us during a long and painful treatment and sustain us to await the end with unspeakable hope and peace. For believers in Christ, the end of life is not death, it is the encounter with God.

Can God heal all diseases? Of course yes! However, we all know that the phenomenon of miraculous healing does not always occur. I met a renowned physician who had been a Christian in his youth. When atheism became fashionable in Cuba, he abandoned the faith and withdrew from the church. He lived his best years away from the Lord without teaching his children the faith or even allowing them to attend church . At 60 years of age he returned to the Lord; but a year later a cancerous tumor was discovered in the brain in an advanced stage. His doctors did not have to explain that he had only a few weeks to live. He knew it.

"I know that God can heal me," he told his pastor, "but healing is not my main concern." My pain is that I did not teach my children how a Christian lives and I will not have time to do so.

The pastor understood the man's sadness and asked the Lord for words to help him. Then he said:

—We are going to pray for a miracle, but if it doesn't happen, you can teach your children how a Christian dies.

The sick man's face lit up. Such words gave meaning to his sudden and dramatic illness. He had a unique opportunity before him. If God did not heal him, he would demonstrate to his family the value of faith in facing his death. The man lived only a couple of weeks after that conversation. In those fifteen days he proclaimed to all that a miracle was not only to be saved from death, but to face it in victory with the peace that only the Spirit of God can give to those who trust in him. He left his family and his acquaintances shocked by the power of the Gospel of Christ and with the courageous serenity with which this man accepted his illness and left with the Lord.

Diseases come into everyone's life and God has the power to free us from it if that is His purpose. We must be very careful and respect God's sovereignty whenever we ask for or expect a miracle. I have seen sick people blame for lack of faith, ignoring that the power of God is not limited to anything when he wants to manifest himself. Worse still, I have also seen healings declared without the alleged miracle occurring. Afterward, it amazes me that no one mentions or remembers the statement they made earlier. There is everything in the vineyard of the Lord.

The good news is that God does work miracles, which means He can't just heal us. He too has enough power to strengthen us during a long and painful treatment, and even to sustain us to await the end with unspeakable hope and peace. After all, for the believer in Christ, the end of life is not death, it is the encounter with God.

And that's the most wonderful thing that can happen to us!

God bless you!
