God provides

Summary: During the special period in Cuba, a Puerto Rican tourist stayed with a family because she missed her flight. The family had very little food or money, but they shared everything they had with her. When she asked to see their pantry and fridge, the family explained their situation and their faith in God's provision. The tourist was amazed and impressed by their trust in God, as she always lived in fear of not having enough. Cuban Christians know that God always provides for his children, even in the most difficult times.

In the worst moments of the so-called special period in Cuba, with an almost total lack of food and all the essentials, we lodged a Puerto Rican tourist in our house. The woman had come to Cuba with a group of teachers and had been staying in a hotel. When it was time to leave our country, she missed her plane and stayed in Cuba for another week, since there was no other flight before. She ran out of luggage and money and appeared to us at the parsonage, where we lodged and cared for her. For our family it was a tremendous experience. That week she was one of the family and God provided the food and everything necessary to serve her with dignity.

The day before leaving, the woman was very grateful, although she told us that she had a concern that she wanted to satisfy. She had seen every corner of our house and knew exactly how we lived. He complained that we had not let him see our pantry or the inside of our refrigerator. My wife and I looked at each other because we had certainly taken care that she didn't see both. We were sorry that they were empty. But at the insistence of the sister, we explained the conditions in which we lived and opened the pantry, where there was hardly anything, and the refrigerator, where at that time there was only ice. She was stunned:

"And what are they going to eat tomorrow?" She said sad and worried, adding:

—You shared everything you had with me and now how will you feed your children?

So we took the opportunity to tell him in what prodigious way God always provided for our needs. My wife then assured him:

"We don't know what we're going to eat tomorrow, but we know we're going to eat tomorrow." You can go calm that God is not going to miss us.

The woman was speechless and impressed. It was very difficult for him to understand. She told us that although she always had a pantry full of food at home, she lived worried and checked what was missing so that the need for something did not surprise her for a moment. How could she leave calmly if our pantry was empty?

But Cuban Christians - and around the world - know very well that God has unsuspected resources to help his children. He has never lacked us, even in the most difficult moments. His promises are always kept. We can certainly trust him.

God bless you!
