Summary: The Shunammite woman is offered a favor by Elisha, but she declines and is content with her life. However, Elisha discovers that she desires a child and prophesies that she will have one within a year. This shows that when we serve God selflessly, our lives become fertile and able to bear fruit. The prophetic Word is also powerful in aligning circumstances to meet its declaration. When God visits, He gives life and blesses us beyond what we could imagine.

Eliseo sends for the Shunammite to offer her a favor because of how caring she has been with them and how much she has cared for the well-being of her life. Eliseo assumes that what he would be interested in would be a material favor, but the Shunammite surprises him by saying: thank you but no thank you, I don't need anything, I live comfortably among my people, I don't need you to take me to other levels with people of high birth or that introduce me to society because I am fine where I am.

There is also a very nice element in this woman who is kind of happy with her own skin, she doesn't need to be rubbing shoulders with influential people. And I believe that the mature Christian himself, the Christian is not dazzled because a person of great importance calls him or invites him to his house because he is not so in love with the world, the things of the world do not interest him much. A sample of character and spiritual maturity is that stability, that sobriety in life where we do not allow ourselves to be manipulated by people or what they think of us, or always looking for relationships, or social influence. This woman is sure of herself.

But we see that still Elisha wants to bless her, Elisha insists that he wants to do something for her. And then he asks Gehazi, I imagine, in private: hey, what can we do for this woman? Gehazi has discovered that she does not have children because her husband, she says, was already a man of advanced age, which tells us that this woman was much younger than her husband because she was of childbearing age, and so Gehazi tells Elisha: look, he has no children, his marriage has not produced an heir.

And then Eliseo sent for the Shunammite and told her: "Next year at this same time you will hug a son" and she reacts incredulously and says: "My Lord, don't do that, don't make fun of me" that is to say For this woman the idea of having a child is so wonderful that she cannot think that this is a possibility in her life, but God is more generous than we can ever conceive or think.

The Bible says that when we care about the Lord it says that He will grant us the requests of our hearts. When we delight in God He grants us the most intimate thoughts, desires, dreams that we have that sometimes even we dare not conceive because of how grand and unattainable they might seem at first glance.

This woman is blessed by God in an extraordinary way. The Holy Spirit in Elisha discerns and discovers the inner need in his heart, the lack of a child and grants him that request of his spirit.

There is something here also that when we serve the Lord selflessly the life of God enters and allows us to be fertilized, our life, when the Holy Spirit falls on us allows us to bear fruit. As the womb of this woman was activated by the Word of the Holy Spirit, we ourselves, when we entered into an intimate relationship with God as this woman did by inviting the prophet to stay in her house making a room for him, this made the life of God enter her life and that she be fertilized, be enabled to bear fruit.

When God enters our life, he changes our sterility and allows us to be a blessing, we are a blessing to our own life, the wishes we have are fulfilled and he also allows us to be a blessing around us.

An interesting detail is that Elisha does not go before God and say: Father, allow this woman to have a child but Elisha gives the prophetic Word, the Word of authority and as a fact says: next year for this same time, within 12 months you will already be embracing a child, you will have a child in your arms.

How beautiful is the prophetic Word. The prophetic Word when it is declared verbally, when it is announced supported by the power of the Holy Spirit is creative, the circumstances are aligned and the physical world is aligned to meet the declaratory Word of the prophetic man or woman.

In this case I imagine that Elisha gave the Word that for the next year at this same time you are going to conceive a child, immediately I would say that the womb of this woman began to align in preparation for that child that was to come. Her husband who was not even aware of this conversation was also miraculously enabled to have a child despite his advanced age.

How interesting is all the people in Scripture who have children already at an advanced age when they could not have them. Abraham has a son with his wife Sarah almost 100 years old, the mother and father of the prophet John the Baptist also equally. Mary, the mother of Jesus, Hannah, the mother of Samuel as we saw in a period earlier, so the mother of Gideon as well. These miraculous characters are conceived by the supernatural fertilization of the Holy Spirit when they could not conceive life because when God visits, God gives life.

How wonderful that this woman by rejecting the initial offer of a mere social favor prepares herself to receive the most wonderful thing that she would have ever dared to think she could receive, a child that she would hold in her hand through the creative prophetic Word. spoken by the prophet Elisha. Likewise, our life will have to be blessed when the Power of God enters and we allow Him to enter our life and settle in our inner being. May God bless you and in our next meditation we will continue with this wonderful passage.
