Summary: Jesus is the light of the world, and as his disciples, we are called to be lights as well. Darkness resists the light, but we must continue to proclaim the message of the gospel, which is goodness, justice, and truth. Our mission is to make God's love known to those living in darkness so that they may be saved. As children of the light, we must walk as such and bring salvation to the ends of the earth.
The light was God's first touch to a world in darkness. The inaugural commanding voice of the miracle of creation. The light was the eyewitness of everything created after filling all the emptiness of the non-existent; until the finger of God took the clay in his hands to design the first Adam.
Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the light of the world…” (Mt 5.14). However, darkness remains resisting the light, infiltrates the light, disguises itself as light. It is incomprehensible that people prefer darkness to light. Some because of ignorance of the light, others because the darkness serves them intentionally to hide their sinful acts and ungodly behaviors and the majority because they still do not know who the light is. And the one who knew the light and consciously turned away from it to "enjoy the dark delights" that a life without God entails?
Failures, frustrations, suffering, and affliction are also included in the package of salvation in Christ. If someone promises unlimited prosperity and siren songs to your ears when you embrace the gospel, they don't know the true God. Ah, the coming glory will be much greater than all regret, than all burden and despair because the Light has conquered the world. Jesus is that light: “I, the Light, have come into the world, so that everyone who believes in me may not remain in darkness. (John 12:46)
When the message of the Light is offered with the anointing of the Spirit, in a clear and forceful way, there is no one who can resist rejecting it. We have the authority that God has given us in his son Christ; We are no longer of the night or of darkness (1 Thes 5.5), now we are light in the Lord and we must walk as children of light (Eph 5.8). Inasmuch as there should be no greater satisfaction in the hearts of the children of God than announcing the light, proclaiming the light, living the light. "... He who walks in the dark does not know where he is going." (John 12:35). How, as children of light, do we allow so many people around us to walk in the dark and stumble again and again immersed in the darkness of their own lives?
If we do not make God's love known to the people who live in darkness, the same darkness will swallow them up. The apostle Paul speaks to the Ephesians of the fruit that light produces. "For the fruit of the light consists of all goodness, justice and truth" (Eph 5.9, emphasis mine). That is precisely the gospel: it is goodness, and goodness is love, mercy, compassion. It is justice; application of what is just, of the law of honesty and integrity for the benefit of man, even if he is a sinner, and it is true, as eternal as God himself.
The voice of God echoes in our conscience. “This is what the Lord has commanded us:‹ I have made you a light for the nations, so that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth. ›› ”(Acts 13.47).
God bless your Word!
