Summary: There are many options available for spiritual enrichment, but not all of them lead to true spiritual growth. The shortest path is not always the best, just like in the story of travelers who took a shortcut and found it impassable. The only way to grow spiritually is to faithfully obey the teachings of the Bible and follow Jesus.

It is incredible how many options humans have today to live a more comfortable or more fun life. Our grandparents never imagined the forms of communication or recreation that any of us enjoy or can have! The same is true of religion and spiritual needs. Spirituality is talked about everywhere and apparently many options are presented for the spiritual enrichment of people. It seems to be accepted by all that human beings have spiritual needs, and that they are as vital as our physical needs.

The great reality is that there are many offers available for everyone who wants to take care of those needs in their life. I would like to draw the attention of my readers to a biblical warning: There is a way that seems right to man, but its end is the way of death (Proverbs 14:12).

Some travelers were going to a Christian camp. They took the road that skirting the north coast, in which very beautiful landscapes can be seen. They were enjoying nature and praising God for the beauty of his creation when they passed a junction where years before they used to take another road that is the shortest route to the camp.

"Let's have a drink this way," someone said, thinking they'd get there faster that way.

They were unaware that this road was destroyed and that it is currently impassable. The result was that after they had advanced a few kilometers with great difficulty, they decided to go back and take the previous path again, which although the route increases by a few kilometers, is safer. It is also much more beautiful. Shortly after, they were enjoying one of the most admirable views of Cuba, from the Bacunayagua bridge, which is the tallest concrete structure in the country. There the same person who suggested taking the other path, commented:

"Truly the shortest path is not always the best, nor is it the most enjoyable."

This conclusion applies to the spiritual paths that are offered today, even within some so-called Christian churches. Some are shortcuts that promise quick and miraculous solutions but do not lead to true spiritual growth in the long run. Faithfully obeying the teachings of the Bible, willing to take up our cross following Jesus is the only way to grow spiritually and become what God wants and desires of us.

God bless you!
