Summary: The author reflects on the sincere faith of David as expressed in his Psalms, particularly his recognition that his soul may be downcast but that his rest is in God. The author notes that we must also recognize that everything in our lives is a gift from God and that we are stewards of these blessings. We must also recognize that we are not in control of others' actions, even those of our children, and that we should not blame ourselves for their choices. Instead, we should instruct, guard, and invite them into relationship with God. The author concludes that Jesus humanized himself to know what it feels like when uprooting arrives, and that we can take comfort in his example.
When I read David through his Psalms, I marvel at the sincere faith of his heart, he says: "Why are you downcast, my soul, And why are you troubled within me? to praise him, my Salvation and my God " (Ps 43.5) Later in Psalm 116.7" Return, my soul, to your rest, For Jehovah has done you good. "
David recognizes that His soul is downcast and sad, but his rest is the God of Israel and he recognizes all the blessings of God in his life, therefore, he tells himself that he must rest in the arms of his Father.
When will we be able to do the same? How to understand that nothing is ours, that everything has been placed in our hands as stewards that we are and that the way we use the treasure that God gives us is a sign of fidelity to Him? Everything comes into our life, it remains for a time, but we have to prepare for the departure of ourselves or our loved ones by holding onto God's promises.
In Ezekiel 18.4 God speaks: “Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so the soul of the son is mine; the soul that sins, that one will die "
It is the first time that blaming children for parental attitudes has been invalidated or vice versa.
We must educate our children in the Word of God, but when they reach the age of majority they are responsible for their actions and no matter how much pain consumes us, we are not in control.
Even Jesus, in Gethsemane, asks his disciples to watch with him for an hour and what they do is fall asleep deeply, their perception of what is coming, despite being warned, is not the same as that of Jesus who expresses: “ My soul is very sad, even to death; stay here and watch ”(Mark 14:34)
We do not have the same perception of events as others and we should not blame ourselves for that, nor do we feel bad about claiming our loved ones, especially our children when they ignore us; “Then he came to his disciples, and found them sleeping, and said to Peter: So you were not able to watch with me one hour? (Matthew 26: 40-41) We cannot convert our relatives and friends, but we must instruct, guard and invite them .
What can we live that He has not lived in his own flesh and spirit? That is why he had to humanize himself, to know what it feels like when uprooting arrives.
