Summary: In Joshua 4, God instructs Joshua to choose 12 men to extract stones from the Jordan River and build an altar as a reminder of God's miracles and wonders. This serves as a lesson for us to remember God's blessings and answered prayers in our lives. The stones also symbolize Jesus as the stone of remembrance for God's plan of salvation. We should also create our own "Gilgal" or monument to remember and share our testimony of Christ's redemptive work with future generations.
Forbidden to forget if it is about what God has done in our life. Experiencing the will of God also implies keeping in mind at every moment the times that his hand has been on us, his blessings, the answered prayers, the dreams come true by his amazing grace.
The people passed the Jordan test and now the Lord orders Joshua to choose 12 men and each one to extract a stone from the Jordan to build an altar that would serve as a reminder to God's people of his miracles and wonders. "Let this be a sign between you, and later when your children ask: 'What do these stones mean to you?" (Joshua 4.6). Josué himself answers the question. They will tell their children that in the presence of God - the Ark of the Covenant - the waters were divided, the people crossed to the other shore and these stones will be a reminder of his mercy and grace in favor of his people.
How forgetful we children of God often are! He is faithful, we are not always. What stones are we going to extract from our spiritual experiences so that our children will remember that the hand of God is powerful and will worship Him with reverence forever? (Joshua 4.23).
An amazing parallel between Joshua and Jesus. Joshua chose 12 men of testimony from the tribes of Israel, Jesus chose 12 disciples to be testimony of salvation. Joshua led Israel to the promised land and for this he had to cross the Jordan, Jesus had to defeat death on the cross of Calvary to offer eternal life. He is the stone of remembrance of God's plan of salvation for humanity, the Firm Rock in the middle of the stormy Jordan that divides the waters of sinfulness and makes new life and new creatures and transforms the heart that humbles itself.
An obedient priesthood standing in the middle of the problem to enforce God's will and command (Joshua 4.10) A consistent leader - Joshua - who decided to erect a monument in the Gilgal camp to the memory of the Eternal God to be remembered for generations the miraculous event of the Jordan. Where is our Gilgal? What stones do we use to remember the testimony of Christ's redemptive work on our spiritual pilgrimage?
Future generations will have to know, but it will depend on the testimony of each one of us, of the church, that it is the people of the Kingdom of God. Christ leads us to a new Gilgal, to his church, the camp where we prepare for battles in His name, the resting place to restore wounds and refresh the heart with the balm of his voice, the spiritual place where we sharpen swords. of faith for the conquest and we give him glory remembering what great things the Lord has done.
God bless your Word!
