Summary: God can take away pleasant things, but not "the good." He will grant us holiness, victory over bad habits, full assurance, and close fellowship with Him if we ask through Jesus Christ. However, we must walk in integrity and avoid hypocrisy and deception. The path of wholeness leads to heavenly wealth, which includes all good. This is a promise that we can pray with confidence.

The Lord can take away many pleasant things, but not "the good." He is the best judge of what is good for us. Some things are undoubtedly good, and we can obtain these when we ask for them through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Holiness is a good, and He will work it in us freely. He will gladly grant us victory over bad tendencies, violent tempers, and bad habits, and we are not to remain without it.

He will grant full assurance, and close fellowship with Him, and access to all truth, and the prevailing value before the mercy seat. If we do not have these things, it is because of lack of faith to receive them, and not because of any reluctance on the part of God to bestow them. A quiet and heavenly disposition, great patience, and fervent love: He will grant all these things to holy diligence.

But note that we are to "walk in integrity." There must be no conflicting purposes or evil deals; neither hypocrisy nor deception. If we walk dirty, God cannot grant us favors, for that would be a reward for sin. The path of wholeness is the path of heavenly wealth - a wealth so great that it includes all good.

What a promise is this to argue in prayer! Let's get on our knees.
