Summary: Spiritual blindness requires recognition, courage, and humility. Unbelief is darkness, and the only cure is faith. Jesus is the light that can illuminate spiritual eyes and give sight to the blind. Those who reject the light will be blinded by their vanity, while those who accept it will walk as children of light. Only Christ can be the source of light, and we must collaborate with Him in breaking down the sin of unbelief.
Recognizing spiritual blindness requires courage and humility. True conversion is an act of submission before God. Unbelief makes you a sinner. To walk “dead in trespasses and sins” is to live condemned to darkness. The creation story tells us that darkness and chaos ruled the earth. That is why on the first day God created light : Then God said: "Let there be light." And there was light. (Genesis 1.3).
The man sees, but does not discern with his eyes because he is blind. Blindness does not make you see where the truth is. He thinks he sees but constantly stumbles. Unaware of his lack of vision, he lives as if he really sees, but dies every day from lack of light. Unbelief is the absence of light. The gospel is light. "And this is the judgment: that light came into the world, and men loved darkness more than light, because their actions were evil" (John 3:19). This is the point: the actions of man do not let see the light.
The only cure for blindness is faith. But there is no recipe for faith. From the beginning man loved darkness more. Adam was expelled from Eden the same day that he was created by God; Noah also did not meet the Creator's expectations. The man who answered God's question - "Where are you?" - would appear twenty generations after Noah. At God's command to go out and leave land and relatives to fulfill his designs and will, Abraham said: -Yes Lord, here I am! -
From Abraham to Christ, man's blindness worsened. It became a lifestyle. Man continues to prefer the occult because he believes that darkness covers his sin from the eyes of his humanity and the eyes of God. Either the world or God. God sets rules that the world refuses to follow and the world lives dark because of its unbelief. For those who love the light, the sun does not rise, but the face of Christ: For God, who said: "From the darkness the light will shine," is the one who has shone in our hearts, for the illumination of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ (2 Cor 4.6)
Jesus is the only one who can illuminate the spiritual eyes and give sight to the blind of today; those who, having eyes, cannot see. There is bad news for the one who thinks he sees and happily declares his disbelief. They will be blinded by their vanity. Because of your self-sufficiency your eyes will not see. God gives his light to those who want to see; to reject it is to stay in the dark. The one who called us out of the darkness to his marvelous light (1 Peter 2.9), is at the distance of a spiritual eyelash. Unbelief has consequences. To open your eyes to Christ is to open your eyes to the light.
If you think you are enlightened because life smiles at you, but you do not have Christ, you live only under artificial lighting. If you claim to have Christ, but you still continue to be the light of your own life, then there are dark areas that you must discover and allow Him to be the one to illuminate them with His light.
The Word of God says: “because before you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light ”(Eph 5.8). Being light in the Lord does not mean that we are light, but rather that the Lord is the source of the light and radiates his light to us to bear witness to Him. Only He can be the light.
When Jesus appeared to Paul and he was converted, he blinded him for three days (Acts 9.9). On the third day Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit and "immediately like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight" (Acts 9:18). You can be a therapist of the Lord and make the scales fall from the eyes of a world that does not want to see the glory of God. You can walk in the light in the Lord and collaborate with Him in breaking down the sin of unbelief.
God bless you!
