Summary: To be an effective evangelist, a Christian must have total surrender to Christ, absolute faith in what they preach, reflect Christ in their lives, maintain communion with God, have knowledge and mastery of the Word of God, listen carefully and detect individual needs, persevere in the face of rejection, and let their heart speak while being humble. The reward is already given for obedience to this mission, and love is the best way to present Christ to those in need of knowing Him.
Evangelism is something that should be permanent in the life of a Christian, precisely reflecting on this we have been analyzing the requirements that every person who has committed to extending and advancing the kingdom must have by proclaiming the good news of Salvation.
These requirements are:
- Total surrender to Christ : many will wonder, but haven't we given ourselves yet? And I tell you that it is not the same to say that we accept Christ than to surrender to Him, surrender implies renunciation and that is precisely that, it is a renunciation of our self to live his word, if we do not put ourselves in his hands, if we do not submit and we humble ourselves to Him, we cannot truly be effective bearers of His message, we can only feel the need to transmit the message when we stop being us, to be Him.
This takes time and work from the Lord in our lives to transform us into his image and likeness and to be able to say: “I no longer live, but it is Christ who lives in me; the life that I live at present in the flesh, I live it in the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me ”. Galatians 2:20
- Absolute faith in what we preach : We must be convinced of what we preach, not have doubts about the divinity of Christ and the perfection of God's plan for us, of otherwise, how are we going to convince if we are not convinced? But without faith it is impossible to please God; for it is necessary that he who draws near to God believe that there is him, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him. ”Hebrews 11: 6
- Being transformed and reflecting Christ in our lives : we have to show something, we have faith, but the person to whom we are going to give the gift of the Gospel is not in our same position, therefore, if there has not been a transformation in our life, they will not have a clear image of what we are talking about, only when our life has testimony and fruit, is that we are able to convince that we have a treasure in our hands and that we want to share it. Nobody can be shown a coal and try to convince him that it is a diamond, if we do not reflect the image of Christ in the multiple edges of our personality, we will not be able to win any person for Christ. Therefore “Watch properly and sin not; because some don't know God. To your shame I say it ”. 1 Corinthians 15:34
- Communion with God : This aspect is vital. If we do not maintain permanent communication, as God is going to reveal to us the plans that He has for us and even more so that He wants to use us, that is why we must always keep ourselves in prayer and supplication "so that by opening my mouth I (we ) word be given to make known with boldness the mystery of the Gospel "
Ephesians 6.19. Parenthesis mine.
- Knowledge and mastery of the word of God : Sometimes inexplicable things happen when we go to introduce a person to Christ, sometimes we feel ashamed or fear overwhelms us. and shame why? Well, we are simply afraid of being tested or rather disapproved, we are afraid of being questioned and we do not know what to answer. If we have really followed the steps that preceded this point where we are standing, this should not happen, only something like this would happen, in case we are not prepared to face and answer the whole arsenal of questions that will come to us and not only questions, but hurtful and derogatory phrases, doubts about what we are preaching and even offenses. All of this may happen to us and we must be prepared. How? We have the best weapon in the world to disarm any trick of the enemy, think about how Christ defeated Satan in the desert. With the word of the living God! He used the scriptures to defend his position, because not to do the same, we are his imitators, we want to reflect him like a mirror, let's do it then! The word of God is the Sword of the Spirit and we can not feel fear or shame, because we will be prepared for any aggression. Let us search the scriptures, it is our responsibility to be well equipped for battle. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Ephesians 6:10
- Knowing how to listen carefully and detect individual needs : Something very important is to become Dumbo, would there be an ear bigger than that of that elephant? We need a receptive ear to people's needs. If we only let people speak, we will soon find a "GAP" to penetrate. We all have conflicts in our lives, the difference is that not all of us have someone to support us in times of trial. Glory to God who sent us Christ! Well, we all need that, to have Christ in our lives, to give him away, we just have to listen and detect the most effective way of entry. Christ repeated over and over again "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
- Persevere : Maybe sometimes they reject us, maybe they insult us or simply ignore us, it does not matter, it is necessary to have well defined towards whom the offense is directed. It is not us they are rejecting, it is Him, they are rejecting eternal life, they are rejecting Salvation, not us, it is God they rejecting; Should we feel defeated by this? No! Have we ever wondered how many times they rejected Christ? and yet, it is still dealing with us! Let us not give up in the effort, if we have to forgive up to 70 times 7, let's multiply this by an infinite number and persist, “But be strong, and do not let your hands fail, for there is a reward for our work” 2 Chronicles 15: 7
- Let the heart speak and be humble : “So neither he who plants is something, nor he who waters, but God who gives growth” 1 Corinthians 3: 7 . We are only instruments for his glory, that is our reason for being, we cannot receive anything in return, because our reward is already given for our obedience, or were we not created for this purpose? If we have Christ in our hearts, then let's open Him up for others to receive Him, let's put our hearts into this mission and let Him speak and the Spirit guide us. Christ cannot be intellectualized, Christ is made known through love, let love flow whenever we go to present Christ and we will reach the hearts of those in need of knowing him.
“Lift up your eyes and see the fields, already white for harvest. The reaper already receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life… ”John 4: 35-36
