Summary: When the Power of God begins to move in our lives, the circumstances around us align themselves according to God's call. David's brothers reacted negatively to his anointing and the move of God, but David continued to be obedient to the Holy Spirit. When God moves in the mighty move of His Spirit, strange things can happen, and we simply have to be obedient to the Holy Spirit. God will correct our intellect by doing things that will expand our faith and allow us to reach another level of understanding and greater capacity to use the gift of God in our lives.
If God is with us, the world around us will align itself according to God's call, and our part is simply to discern opportunities for that anointing and that Power of God that is in us to run.
When the Power of God begins to move in David's life, the circumstances around David's life also begin to conspire favorably to bring David to the destination God has set for him and for which He originally provided His anointing.
We see several interesting things happening in David's life. First we saw that he is taken to the palace, he gets in touch with the king himself there first, he learns things around the palace, how things are done there, he learns from Saul, he is in position for when the giant appears and David intervenes in a very powerful way. There are a couple of very interesting things that we can see here.
Number one: the reaction of David's brothers when David realizes that Goliath is insulting the Holy Spirit. When David asks questions about what is happening and discovers that Saul has promised a considerable reward for the one who defeats the giant, David's brothers who do not have that anointing of the Holy Spirit and who cannot see things from the bold and diligent perspective when David sees her under God's anointing, they react negatively. They criticize David, accuse him of being quarrelsome, of doing unnecessary nonsense.
When a person does not have the anointing of God and sees the anointing of God manifesting in others, they will generally react in a critical and insulting way. We have seen that throughout the history of the great revivals of the Holy Spirit, that the people who were not in that move and therefore could not understand the mysteries and idiosyncrasies of how the move of God is executed in the environments of power, generally those people not anointed, uneducated in the move of God, these people will act in a negative way.
And the danger is that those who are anointed by the Holy Spirit are intimidated by those who do not understand the move of God and stop using the anointing, and try to accommodate the criticism of these people, one of the greatest dangers and one of the biggest mistakes that a Church, a ministry, an individual can make, because the person who is not in the moving of the Holy Spirit will never understand or see things differently.
We see the case of Michal, Saul's daughter who became David's wife, that Michal, when he sees David dancing one day under the Pentecostal move of God, when the Ark of God is being carried to Jerusalem and David takes off the clothes, and stays in underpants, and dances before God with all freedom, and Michal says that he saw it from his window and despised David. And when David arrives at the house all excited and happy for the move of God in the people, Michal tells him: oh look, how the king of Israel has lowered himself dancing before the public like anybody. And David says to him: yes, it was before my God that he took the anointing from your father and gave it to me, that I danced.
One of the terrible things that a person filled with the Holy Spirit can do is to be intimidated and try to take God's move to such a level that everyone accepts it and everyone approves of it. People who do not know the move of God will never be able to understand what is happening in the lives of those who are moved by the Holy Spirit. Strange things happen where the ministry of the Holy Spirit is in motion and they are not necessarily pleasant or aesthetically pleasing things; God does what He wants and sometimes He humbles the intellect, the culture for Him to do what He wants to do in our lives.
So thank God that David was not intimidated by his brothers but continued to do what he had to do. God was providing him with an opportunity to do something. I think I will stop this meditation at that key point. When God moves in the mighty move of His Spirit, the strangest things can happen and we simply have to be obedient to the Holy Spirit.
We see it in the New Testament in the case of Cornelius and his family. When Peter gets there, all the theology that Christians had up to that moment with their imperfect knowledge of the moving of the Holy Spirit God throws it to the ground, and these people that Peter thought: they are impure, God will never have anything to do with them. Gentiles, God says: No, these people I want on My team and makes His Spirit fall sovereignly, independently, on Cornelius and his people, and this resulted as a great lesson for Peter that what God calls pure, no one calls impure .
Many times God will correct the intellect of us or of the people who do not know the movement of the Holy Spirit by doing things that will humble the intellect, but that will expand our faith and allow us, by being innocent as children and not hindering the move of God in our lives, that we can reach another level of understanding and greater capacity to use the gift of God in our lives. May the Lord bless us and until our next study.
