Summary: God chose David to replace Saul as king because of his pure and noble heart. David's brothers may have been more physically attractive and suitable for leading a people in war, but their hearts were not as humble and caring for God's glory. When Samuel anointed David with oil, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Lord came upon David and activated a relationship between him and God. The baptism of the Holy Spirit can manifest in different ways in an individual's life and does not have to be accompanied by external sensational manifestations. Once anointed, believers should trust and declare the anointing and allow it to manifest in their lives. In the next message, we will see how the anointing manifests in David's life.

In First Samuel chapter 16 we see an interesting process where God had already chosen David to replace Saul when Saul became corrupted and began to worry more about himself, his public image, his reign and stopped being attentive to what God wanted from his life. That anointing was corrupted and God abandoned him, and took His Spirit from Saul, and then another person was sought, which in this case turned out to be David.

One wonders what was it that attracted God to David? One of the things we have to keep in mind is that, according to our heart God will move in our lives, according to the purity, the nobility of our heart, according to the disinterest that we show regarding our image, our reputation , our material interests. The Bible says that: "The eyes of God search all the earth seeking those of perfect heart towards Him, to show His favor over them."

One of the ways that we attract the Power of God, the anointing of God into our lives is by making sure that we always keep a pure heart, a noble heart, a heart that always seeks the glory of God because that will cause the Spirit of the Lord be drawn into our life.

What happened in David's life is that he had a simple heart, a generous heart, a caring heart for the glory of God. Apparently his brothers did not have this quality and therefore God passed them over. All of David's other brothers were more attractive than David from the point of view of what was interesting to a king and a warrior who had to lead a people in war.

David was a young man who was apparently strong, but he was simple; He had no war training, he was not tall and he was not as stocky as his other brothers, but that did not interest God because God can add those elements in the life of any individual. What God does not allow himself to tamper with or try to change is a person's original heart.

When a person is haughty, proud, self-confident, full of bitterness, resentment, and these things, God passes them by. Now when God sees a simple heart, a suitable raw material the Lord is attracted and the Spirit of God flows to that person.

That is why it is so important that if we want God to move with power in our lives, the first thing we have to look at is our heart, our behavior, what there is, the essential quality of our inner being because that is what it is. to grieve or will make the Holy Spirit fall in love.

So we see that the Lord is drawn to David and sends Samuel, and does not tell Samuel who is the person he has to choose, because God wanted to set a precedent so that all His people throughout history would understand that What God is looking for is the heart to make His Power nest in the life of that individual.

And what we know that happened was that Samuel arrived at the house of Jesse, his father and they showed each one of these great, powerful, strong, brave children of Isaiah as in a reign of beauty, and God was rejecting them one by one. one, until as a final occurrence they brought David who was over there tending the sheep, and God said: That's it. Unite him and I will be on him.

It says here that: "Samuel" verse 13 of chapter 16, First Samuel, "Samuel took the horn of oil" symbol of the Holy Spirit, oil has always been a symbol of the Power of God, "he took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. " And here is the interesting thing, it says that: "And from that day on, the Spirit of the Lord came upon David." In other words that was like the activation of the relationship.

Since then, from that moment as the Holy Spirit already knew the specific direction of David's life and would have dealings with him, there would be revelation, there would be moments of powerful anointing when necessary.

So it's interesting again isn't it? there is a specific moment when that Spirit of God is received. God had plans for David but he needed to put, how shall we say, new tools within his emotional and spiritual makeup so that he could carry out the work that lay ahead of him. It's like they removed a small power cord and put a 240 volt or higher cord so that he could handle God's energy in his life and ministry.

Then he says that from that moment the Spirit of the Lord kind of had dealings with David and visited him. And it's interesting that then, from that moment on, things start to happen in David's life. Maybe David didn't even say anything.

In Saul's case there were spectacular manifestations and emotional things, Saul prophesied, there were very clear expressions and very clear evidences that the Spirit had touched him. In David's case we are not told anything about that, there was simply a spilling of the oil horn in the midst of his brothers and it kind of took place an invisible but very powerful transaction in David's life, and from that moment David remained rooted and anointed with the blessing and Power of God, and from that moment David already had a component within him.

It is something important that we understand this. The baptism of the Holy Spirit can come into an individual's life in many ways. I know that many of those who read or hear this message have been brought up to believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit can only be manifested through the manifestation of the gift of tongues.

Every day there are fewer people who know Scripture, and who are theologically mature, who preach this doctrine, and I say this with respect to my brothers who may think differently, if you think differently please know that I say this with great respect , but the anointing of God, the baptism of the Holy Spirit can come into the life of an individual in many different ways, and it does not have to be only with crying and strong emotions, or laughter, or tongues; that can come even after that "judicial" transaction takes place so to speak, spiritual of the Holy Spirit being installed with power in the life of an individual.

Now, after that Holy Spirit is in the life of the individual, there must be actions and manifestations that that power is there present, that life must become something dynamic, powerful, effective for the Kingdom of God, but it does not have to be accompanied at the same moment with sensational external manifestations, but it is certainly clearly seen that from that moment, God installed as a modem, a way of communicating directly in the life and in the spirit of David with His own Spirit, as can happen in our lives.

When we are anointed, when we claim and appropriate the promise of the baptism of the Holy Spirit in our life we have to believe this and we have to trust it, and we have to declare it, and affirm it, and confess it, and hope that there is going to be something powerful. and new in our life. And if we do it like this, we begin then as we said before, to do whatever comes to hand, in the Name of the Lord we are going to see that this anointing is going to begin to manifest and develop, and to do very powerful things, and we will grow in our faith, and we will grow in our ministerial effectiveness.

In our next message we are going to see how that anointing that is already installed in David's life begins to manifest itself in an effective way. My beloved brothers may the Lord bless you, a privilege to be with you, until our next meditation.
