Summary: When Saul received the Holy Spirit, he was initially intimidated and hid from the public. However, as God began to work in his life, Saul was filled with the Spirit's power and became a courageous military leader. This illustrates the importance of developing the capacity to work with the Holy Spirit and calling upon its power when faced with trials, difficulties, and opportunities. We should always be seeking a fresh anointing of the Spirit in our lives. The story also shows the importance of uniting civil and military power with spiritual power for effective leadership.

Saúl is an imperfect man, full of flaws and apparently shy. After Saul receives the infusion of the Holy Spirit in his life, when Samuel wants to present him to the people of Israel, Saul is hiding behind the suitcases, behind some things that were there in storage because he was afraid to present himself before this large crowd. people.

Which indicates something, that Saul alone would not have been able to carry out the great task that God had for him. It was like taking someone out of total anonymity and putting him in the national eye for the moment, and it was too great a leap that could only be traversed precisely by means of that Spirit of God that was within him.

We see that it is interesting that, although the Holy Spirit is in our life when we receive that infusion, then it is like now we have to learn how to use and handle, and develop that Presence that is within us. I would liken it to let's say learning to ride a bike. That first in which the child or the person when they are riding a bicycle that can finally stand upright and keep the bicycle running, but after that moment the person then has to start using it more and develop the skills, and learn to bend to right, left, guide the bike, pedal faster, do more daring things.

That is, the person has already learned to stand upright but then, he needs to develop more and more the capacity. This is how it happens when the Holy Spirit comes into our life, which then is like a force that wants to learn to express itself through us and we have to cooperate with it by giving it opportunities.

In this case in his first public appearance, Saul is still not used to what to do with this power that is moving within him and he feels totally dazzled and intimidated by that presence of the entire nation around him, and what he does is that hides. So what he has to do is start moving with ease in this new modality of the Holy Spirit, because he is a king who will have to make decisions that will affect the entire nation, and above all he will have to be a warrior, a military leader who devise strategies and inspire the people who are intimidated by these enemy groups, who are controlling and oppressing Israel, and God has raised him up as a warrior who brings liberation to his people, and that is why he needs that Power of God within him .

We see interestingly that, once Saul has that first moment as well as hesitation, later on God begins to do something in his life, and in the 11th chapter of First Samuel, we see that God begins to activate things. And that is what happens, that as God is moving in the life of a person, the world around him or her begins as if to conspire to be able to put into manifestation the Power of God. Things begin to happen around us that encourage us to move forward.

And that's why we have to be watching. When God visits us with His Power, what will happen? because there are going to be opportunities. And in this case what happens is that one of these powerful groups, the Ammonites, comes to Israel and threatens the people. And it says in chapter 11 that this man, Naas, an Ammonite, commands the Hebrews to: "All the men of the nation cut off their right eye." This occurs in Gilead, a very important region of Israel, "they have to take out their right eye, otherwise they will be destroyed."

And of course, this fills these men of Gilead with consternation and bitterness, and they begin to wait to see if God does something and if he is going to emerge as a champion, some military leader who is going to get them out of this predicament.

When Saul hears what happens that Israel is in this great predicament look at what happens. In chapter 11 verse 5 he says: "And behold, Saul came from the field after the oxen, and Saul said: What have the people that weep? And they told him the words of the men of Jabesh. And verse 6 says that : "And when Saul heard these words, the Spirit of God came with great power upon him again." At that moment when Saul received this news, the Spirit of the Lord fell upon him and activated those endowments.

And it says: "He was greatly inflamed with anger, and taking a pair of oxen, he cut them into pieces, sent them throughout the entire territory of Israel, and said: so shall it be done with those who do not go after the oxen. of Saul and after Samuel. " In other words, the Lord lets Saul see what is happening and the Power of God enters over Saul, and he experiences, it is a holy anger, it is an explosion of leadership that occurs within him, and he calls all the people and threatens all who do not want to join him and Samuel, it is interesting, because the authority and Power of God resides in Samuel as spiritual leader.

It is interesting that civil and military power have to unite with spiritual power to be truly effective, and Saul recognizes that for now. Then God gives him authority, he changes the temperament of the shy man who a few hours ago had hidden behind the baggage and who did not want to appear in public, now he is filled with authority, filled with power and gives an order that everyone must unite to create a great army to defeat these Ammonites who are threatening the people of Israel.

Interesting. We see there a very specific illustration of what Samuel had promised Saul: "The Spirit of the Lord comes upon you and is going to give you power so do whatever comes your way." Saul has for the first time the opportunity to do something as a leader and the Spirit of God gives him that courage and that faith to believe, and then he does what he has to do.

And it also teaches us that we have to believe that when these situations come into our life, when trials, difficulties, opportunities come, we have to say to him: Spirit of God fill me. Give me the wisdom, give me the authority, give me the power, give me the initiative, give me the analytical capacity and believe that God is going to do it, and that he is going to activate that power.

The fact that the Holy Spirit of God has come upon us once does not mean that we do not have to ask for that new anointing, strawberry anointing, we have to always be looking for fresh anointing. In this case the fresh anointing of God came at that moment and Saul was empowered to do what he had to do with great success as we see later. May the Lord bless you and we will continue with this fascinating study on the Holy Spirit-filled life.
