Summary: In 1 Samuel 10, Saul is instructed by Samuel to go to a place where he will receive the substance of the Word of God and encounter men filled with the Holy Spirit. However, he is also told to go to the hill of God, which is now occupied by the Philistines, representing the enemy's stronghold on a place where the Presence of God once dwelled. Similarly, there are places today that were once filled with the Spirit of God but are now occupied by anti-Christian forces. To liberate these places, we need to seek the anointing of the Holy Spirit and fight spiritual warfare in His power.
Saul receives very specific instructions from the prophet Samuel. Samuel tells him: look, start walking and on the way you are going to meet these men who go up to God in Bethel, and they are going to give you certain things, they are going to give you bread; for me those loaves mean the substance of the Word of God.
We have to rub shoulders and relate to environments and people who are filled with the Holy Spirit, who are going to infect us with their energy, and that biblical instruction is very good, necessary, essential, we know, but that environment of fire and of enthusiasm that brings God's Word to life.
There is no conflict between a life full of order and teaching, and good doctrine, and a life full of the Holy Spirit, God wants both to work. And therefore the ideal is a Church and people who know the Word so much and who are governed in an orderly manner by the principles of the Word of God, and who also have the fullness, the anointing, the energy of the Holy Spirit. Both are necessary for one to live a powerful life.
After that meeting, Samuel tells Saul in verse 5 of First Samuel chapter 10: 5: "After this you will arrive at the hill of God where the Philistines are garrisoned" It is interesting that there is a conflict, right? the hill of God, a place perhaps where the Presence of God was in a very powerful way, but it is now occupied by the Philistines. The devil always wants to occupy those places where the Presence of the Lord is. Perhaps instinctively the Philistines to occupy this was like a spiritual war that there was.
Saul was going to be used by God to liberate those places that the enemy had seized, and by the way I say that many times, the only ones who are going to be able to liberate places that the devil has occupied where the Presence of God has been before are full people. Holy Spirit.
And Saul has to go to that place where the Presence of God dwells but which is now occupied by a stronghold of God's enemies. And I say, it occurs to me brothers when I say this that, I am going to stop for a moment at this point. There are places today in which in the past God moved with great power and which are now occupied by enemy forces. These places used to express love for God and subjection to divine and biblical principles, and now they are places of extreme rationalism, of anti-Christianity, of modernism.
For example, the city where we live and minister here in the city of Boston, United States, in the seventeenth century was the place, and these surroundings of Boston, where the North American nation began, which for a long time was going to be a nation fearful of God, and this was a place where the Will of God was recognized. There was great respect, great reverence for the things of the Spirit, where the initial government here in and around Boston was an almost theocratic government that was governed by the rules of the Word of God.
Yet today in the 21st century it is one of the most incredulous and spiritually sterile places in the world. It is a city, and the entire region where this city is located, which is the New England region, is a completely secular region and far from the principles that originally founded this region.
And it's like here in this city of Boston and around New England, it's like there's a Philistine garrison on God's Hill. And it takes an anointed and Spirit-filled people to make flee these enemy powers symbolized by the Philistines. If we want to cast Satan out of our lives, our churches, our cities we have to seek the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
I think that is perhaps why Samuel makes Saul go through these places, and it is like instinctively the Holy Spirit is declaring the things that have to be done. There has to be liberation, there has to be contact with the energy of the Holy Spirit on the part of man that God is going to use to carry out these works.
Our lives, if we want to remove the enemy from the areas where he has strengths in us, in our cities, even in our churches, we need the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Spiritual warfare has to be fought in the power and energy of the Spirit of God. God bless you and until our next meditation.
