Summary: When Samuel anoints Saul, he gives him instructions to meet three men on his way to Bethel who are going up to seek God. These men represent the importance of associating with people who have the anointing of the Holy Spirit and know how to seek and handle its energy. The Spirit of God is received more by impartation and contagion than by teaching, and we need to seek environments where the Presence of the Lord moves and people who love the Spirit of God. Both good teaching and the fire of the Holy Spirit are needed in the Kingdom of God, and we should seek to infect ourselves with the passion for the Holy Spirit from others.
When Samuel anoints Saul, then he gives him a series of instructions that tell us something about how the Holy Spirit moves in the lives of believers.
The prophet Samuel tells him to start on his way and then to continue on, and reach the oak tree of Tabor "Three men will meet him who go up to God" he says "in Bethel carrying some goats, bread and a vessel of wine , which "says" once they have greeted you, they will give you two loaves, which you will take from their hands, and after this you will arrive at the hill of God where the Philistines garrison is, and when you enter the city there you will find a company of prophets coming down from the high place, and before them the psalter, the tambourine, the flute and the harp, and they prophesying. "
What the prophet Samuel is establishing here is a supernatural atmosphere. It is interesting that the Spirit of God indwells Samuel and therefore Samuel has a tremendously powerful and precise prophetic spirit. He is giving Saul very clear instructions.
Saul has to proceed this way and when he goes to a certain place he will find some men who go says, road to Bethel, go up to God says in Bethel. It is interesting that in Bethel it has some resonances in the Old Testament of God's visitation. It is a place where for example Jacob had a very powerful encounter with God, where Abraham originally worshiped the Lord and after he returned from Egypt he returned to Bethel and worshiped the Lord there once more. Bethel is a supernatural place, it is a place where God kind of dwelt in a very powerful way.
And these men that Saul has to meet go to that place in Bethel, he says they go up to God. It's like they go there to seek something from the Lord; Maybe they go there to have a revival meeting, or a prayer meeting, or an anointing, but they go to that place where the Presence of God dwells. Obviously they are men who know the moving of the Spirit and God had a mysterious purpose in which Saul received something from these men on the way to his personal encounter with the Holy Spirit.
Many times one of the things we will need the most is to rub shoulders and associate with people who have the anointing of the Spirit of the Lord. If you are looking for the Spirit of the Lord to move in your life, you better associate with people who know the Spirit, people who have energy from God, people who love the things of the Spirit, who have wisdom to talk about how it moves. the Holy Spirit and that they themselves have the Lord's anointing because they inhabit that supernatural dimension that Bethel exemplifies in this case.
They say over there and I think it is very true, that the Spirit of God is received more by impartation and contagion than by teaching. A Church can have tremendous teaching, tremendous biblical instruction, good messages, good discipleship classes but if not it also teaches how people can come into contact with the naked Holy Spirit of God, how they can contact and handle the naked energy of the Spirit Santo falls short.
We children of God need to seek environments where the Presence of the Lord moves, where the Presence of God is alive through praise, preaching that glorifies the Holy Spirit, that teaches the people to live in the energy of the Holy Spirit, that provide God's people with opportunities to enjoy that energy that renews and enlivens them, and heals them, and carries them forward. If you want to have that fullness of the Holy Spirit, look for a Church, look for people who love the Spirit of God and have an appetite for the things of the Spirit.
It is not that in other places where there is not necessarily that Pentecostal emphasis there is not the Presence of God or that God does not love those people, or that they are not truly useful people for the Kingdom of God, but I have always believed that the perfect desire to God and the ideal way of one to move in the things of the Kingdom of God is in those places where it is praised, and it is raised, and the movement of the Holy Spirit is sought.
Imagine so many people today who have a lot of mercy, but they do not know the Power of God. How beautiful it would be if those people who sometimes have a very spiritual heart and very eager to serve the Lord, were also people filled with the Holy Spirit with that aggressive energy that the Holy Spirit gives, it would be wonderful. However today we kind of have these two extremes: people who love the Word, who preach the Word, who love teaching and theological truths, and people on the other hand who love the Holy Spirit, love the energy of the Spirit, the gifts, revival.
And since they have been constituted in two fields in the Kingdom of God, when what God wants is that these two extremes are united in a single being, a single environment, a single people that bases its life on the Word of the Lord, on good teaching, good theology, good doctrine, but let them know that the fire of God is needed to give life and warmth to this mass of teaching and good instruction. Both are needed.
And I believe that when God says to Saul: Look, go to meet these men who go and go up to look for God in Bethel, which is the place pregnant with God, he is saying: Hey, start to elbow you, start to infect yourself with that energy of the Holy Spirit that people have who are already filled with the Holy Spirit, and who know the value of seeking that energy. Let's look for environments and people that infect us with their passion for the Holy Spirit. God bless you and until our next meditation.
