Patience is necessary to obtain the promise of great reward.
How can one enter that zone of powerful stillness that we have talked about in the last few meditations? How to cultivate God's peace in the midst of the storm?
First of all, don't wait for the test or the crisis to come before you set your sights on the Lord. Even in normal times, cultivate a healthy devotional life. As Jehoshaphat did at the beginning of his reign by pre-emptively building fortresses in different cities of his nation, accumulate spiritual reserves and strengthen yourself spiritually and emotionally through daily prayer and meditation, so that when the test comes you will be in good shape. spiritual to resist and conquer.
Second, when you enter a time of trial, remember to pray more, not less! In times of difficulty, the natural tendency is to enter a frantic mood of crisis and activism, and to neglect the spiritual disciplines. It must be the opposite. Prayer focuses you on the eternal, calms panic, takes your eyes off circumstances, and helps you set your sights on divine promises. This, in turn, brings peace to your soul and gives you hope.
Third, memorize the word of God, particularly verses of power and victory. When the test comes, those powerful texts will become a source of vitality and comfort for your soul. God's Word will be expressing itself within you as you repeat it, and it will strengthen your emotions. Through the years, I have discovered that those psalms and texts that I have memorized have become valuable allies in my battles. In times of anxiety and struggle, reciting them softly has had a calming effect on me. They have been like projectiles that I have managed to launch against the foreheads of the giants, a prophetic word that has activated the spiritual content of those texts in my favor. That is why it is important to memorize the word of God. When the war comes, we will discover that the Word is already within us, integrated into our sensibilities, its nutrients spread throughout our entire being.
Finally, wait patiently for Jehovah's salvation. Don't give up the fight prematurely! God has his times, his processes and his purposes for each of his children. As we have seen, the proof does not come only from the Enemy. Sometimes God allows it, or actively initiates it, to strengthen us, prune us, break us, and make us more like Christ. On other occasions, as we have already discussed, God does not take the test away from us immediately, although it has been initiated by the Enemy, because despite its diabolical origin it has a positive effect on us, humiliating us, orienting us more towards prayer and search. God, and forcing us to depend more on Him. Remember that "those who love God, all things work together for good."
Even the attacks of the Enemy, if we go through them holding the hand of God, will redound in blessing for our souls. The writer of Hebrews encourages us not to give up the race prematurely, but to stick with it to the end, until God has revealed his full purpose in the mysterious processes of our spiritual race: great award; for patience is necessary, so that having done the will of God, you may obtain the promise ”(Heb 12:35, 36).
