Summary: Everything eternal belongs to God, and only He can offer eternal life. The Father is eternal, and through faith in Jesus Christ, we are also heirs of the eternal. The apostle Peter encourages us to strive to add virtue, understanding, self-control, constancy, devotion to God, brotherly affection, and love to our faith. Christ is the eternal Emmanuel, the eternal God, and the light of the world. We should live in the joy of the Lord and be grateful for being a tiny particle of eternity in the immensity of the universe created by God. Offer and share the best gift this Christmas, which is Christ, the eternal God.
Everything eternal belongs to God. No one, but only He, can have a relationship with the eternal. Only He can offer eternal life, because He is God He is an eternal way, an eternal rock, an eternal home; no writer left or will let eternal word, nor man be eternal witness or offer eternal salvation, eternal joy, nor have signed an eternal covenant. Our God is the eternal Father because everything in Him bears the seal of perpetuity, of the perennial, of the imperishable. The Word never tires of telling us, of reminding us, and we ignore it.
The eternal in the Father is not restricted only to his fatherhood, but to make us understand that everything that is eternal for him, if we are his children through faith in Jesus Christ, it is also for us. Whoever has the Father is also heir of the eternal. Whoever has the Son also has God. Jesus said "The Father and I are one." (Jn 10.30). Look at what a beautiful promise: “The sun will no longer be your light during the day, nor will the moon shine on you with its brilliance, because the Lord will be your eternal light; your God will be your glory ”(Is 60.19.)
In my early years of Christianity, I meditated a lot about eternal life. It seemed incredible to me that just for the sake of faith, he was so honored by Christ after so much sin committed. It seemed too simple to me. In my mind things had to be more complex, I had to do more than have faith in Him to enjoy a new life. I fell, as often happens, into the legalism of doing things to deserve my salvation. Until I met the apostle Peter and stopped to read and reread a couple of verses that continue to be my longings as a Christian to this day: “… strive to add virtue to your faith; to his virtue, understanding; to the understanding, self-control; to self-control, constancy; to constancy, devotion to God; to devotion to God, brotherly affection; and brotherly affection, love. (2 P 1.5-7).
These attributes make a perfect portrait of Christ, the eternal Emmanuel, the eternal God. If we value more the eternal of salvation, we will do more to imitate it, to know it more, to love (follow) it more. He, because of his paternal and fraternal relationship with the redeemed people, which is the church of the living God, was crowned by God as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, eternal sovereign. I reiterate what Jesus says: "The Father and I are one." (Jn 10.30) From this is inferred his paternal relationship with the children of God.
The light that shines became a body in Emmanuel (Is 9.2), an eternal light like his gospel, a gift available to all who walk in darkness: “… the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true God . And we are with the True One, with his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. (1 Jn 5.20). I recommend that you read this revealing verse again.
We really should live in the joy of the Lord. Just thinking that we are a tiny particle of eternity in the immensity of the universe created by God is a reason for amazement and also for gratitude. Remember that it is soon Christmas. Offer and share the best gift, which is Christ, the eternal God, the light that shone in the world and looked for us a space in his eternity.
God bless you!
