Summary: God is not only strong, but also powerful. Even the weak are invested with the power of the Holy Spirit before God. Paul's strength lay in the power given by the Spirit to sustain him in the face of tribulation and suffering. Christ is strong because in him rest the promises of ultimate redemption of humanity. We are joint heirs with Christ of God's possessions, and divine power coexists in Him, so we can be strong with Him. Let's appropriate Christ, because having Him we are strong. We do not win by our strength, nor is there human power that makes us winners, but Christ. Christ is the King of glory, the strong God who accepts us as we are and does not set conditions for us to come to Him.
God is not only strength, nor strength, but power. There are those who have strength, but have no power. That is why even the weak, before God, are invested with the power of the Holy Spirit. There we have Paul when he said to the Corinthians: “That is why I rejoice in weaknesses, insults, privations, persecutions and difficulties that I suffer for Christ; Because when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Co 12.10). Paul's strength does not lie in his strength, but in the power given by the Spirit to sustain him in the face of all kinds of tribulation and suffering. The Lord of Paul freed him from prisons and shipwrecks, saved him from a snake bite, provided comfort in the humiliation of the scourges, and provided him with bread in the hours of weakness.
Only the Spirit provides this kind of strength. Jesus, reading Isaiah in the Synagogue, revealed the fulfillment of the prophecy in his person: “The Spirit of the Almighty Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal wounded hearts, to proclaim liberation for the captives and freedom for the prisoners ”(Is 61.1).
Christ is strong because in him rest the promises of the ultimate redemption of humanity, because he is also dominion and power and Lord of creation. On his shoulders the principalities will rest and submit to his authority so that in his name every knee will bow and every tongue will confess him Lord (Phil 2.10). What do we have to do? Follow it! If we are joint heirs with Christ of God's possessions, then we are strong with Him because divine power coexists in Him. He makes us strong, clothed us with power to walk as Christians through the world, being witnesses of Him. The test may come, but the end of history is written by God according to His will. Isn't your will nice and perfect? So, let's trust Him. He is our strong God. The apostle Peter told his fellow servants: “And after you have suffered a little while, God himself, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will restore you and make you strong, firm and stable. . " (1 P 5.10).
The apostle Paul similarly encouraged the Corinthians by expressing: "The weapons with which we fight are not of the world, but have divine power to tear down strongholds." (2 Co 10.4). What touches us as Christians? Appropriate Christ, because having Him we are strong. We do not win by our strength, nor is there human power that makes us winners, but Christ. The Psalmist asks “Who is this King of glory? The Lord, the strong and brave, the Lord, the brave warrior ”. (Ps 24.8). Christ is the King of glory, the strong God who does the unspeakable to conquer your heart and does not set conditions for you to come to Him. He accepts you as you are right now; remote, cold, distant, secluded.
It is Christmas time, joy of the children of God, a time that awakens the spirits of peace and reconciliation. Come to the strong, to the Lamb slain yesterday, and always victorious!
God bless you!
