Summary: True freedom is a gift from God, while false freedom leads to debauchery and sin. The psalmist praises God for delivering him from his enemies and spiritual prisons, and encourages us to recognize and appreciate the freedom we have in Christ. Beware of false teachers who deceive with human traditions and conditions for salvation. We can confidently approach God through faith and enjoy freedom in His Spirit.

Who best appreciates freedom is the one who was once a prisoner. The saddest thing is having been a captive for many years and not even finding out that you were not free. Freedom is a precious commodity because for those of us who know Christ, it is a gift of God. The other freedom, the one that gives a person free reins to waste life on passions that lead to death eternal, is a caricature of true freedom. If the Word of God assures that there is a true freedom, it is because surely there is also a false one. In reality false freedom is debauchery. And what is the difference between one and the other? The Spanish-American dictionary of mission says that debauchery moves away and makes fun of moral precepts and enjoys violating ethical norms; is to do what you want in any circumstance and time.

All the painful experiences of the Christian before knowing Christ, were determined by the false conception of freedom. Judas, brother of the Lord, says that some turn the grace of our God into licentiousness, and deny God the only sovereign, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 4). The debauchery makes a perfect marriage with sin and is the child of the debauchery of the will of man without God.

Psalm 18 is a hymn to the liberation that God offers when we recognize that from Him and through Him we achieve freedom and liberation from spiritual prisons. It is good - although not too much - to remember where we have come from, the prison of miseries that kept us prisoners of crimes and sins, above all things, because in this way we can be more sensitive to the needs of those who are still captive. , strutting with pride, in his ignorance of true freedom.

David, in Psalm 18, praises God for having delivered him from his enemies, acknowledging the hand of God in all his tribulations and persecutions and giving thanks for the liberation, symbol of the victory of those who seek the face of their Lord in prayer. . We praise him for having given us the key - turned by dint of hammers and nails - that opened the prison of sin and brought us salvation and freedom. His blood lubricated the moldy locks of our hard and wanton hearts and broke down every bar of doom.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be truly free. (Jn 8.36). That is what it is about: the Son, the one sent to announce good news to the poor, to heal wounded hearts, to proclaim liberation for captives and freedom for prisoners (Isa 61.1). In the spiritual battle of each day, I invite you to immerse your spirit in this Psalm and you will feel the promised victory, not yours, but Christ's. He is the victor and makes us share in his victory.

Many have been deceived by the tricks of a new generation of miracle workers who are busy assassinating the glory of God by captivating the mind with false cosmologies. Some proclaim prosperity, others promise blessings. They are the enslavers of the religious man who degenerates the grace of God and conditions salvation to the following of norms that despise the freedom that we have in Christ. To be a captive is to be a slave, to be subjected and a prisoner. Paul warned the Colossians: "Beware that no one captivates you with the vain and deceptive philosophy that follows human traditions, which is according to the principles of this world and not according to Christ" (Col 2.8)

We enjoy freedom. The sacrifice of the Lamb, unique and unrepeatable, allows us to walk in freedom and confidently approach the throne of his grace, without fear. "In him, through faith, we enjoy freedom and confidence to draw near to God" (Eph 3:12). My God is deliverer. He leads the army of the redeemed in his blood and fights all of our battles. We are free because we have known the truth (Jn 8.32) and we are the temple of the Spirit… and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Cor 3.17).

God bless you!
