Summary: Discernment is important in times of trial as it allows us to see things from God's perspective and understand what He is trying to do in our lives. It is important to ask God for wisdom and have faith that He will answer our prayers. Wisdom is essential in all areas of life and God is willing to give it abundantly if we ask with faith and without doubt. So, let's ask the Lord for wisdom to discern His purpose in all areas and moments of our life.

Discernment is important when we are going through trials because divine wisdom, the illumination of the Holy Spirit in our lives, is what allows us to see trials in the light and within God's perspective.

God is using these seemingly terrible and difficult circumstances to produce a benevolent end of Christian perfection, of moral and spiritual improvement, and of leading us more and more to perfectly reflect that character of Jesus Christ.

And for all those things we have to know what God is trying to do, what part of our being He is trying within our trial and to be able to walk that difficult path close to God. How interesting and how beneficial it would have been for example for Job when he was going through his trial situation to have understood what was happening in the spiritual world, that controversy between God and Satan and that God was using that terrible test for which he was going through to bring glory to God through the faithfulness he was manifesting despite all the losses he was experiencing, still standing firm in God.

If Job had understood this in the spiritual realm, I imagine it would have been easier for him to go through the test that he went through. If we could better understand what God is doing through a trial we could perhaps pass it with more patience. Ask the Lord for wisdom. I believe that wisdom is one of the most important things in the Christian life, more than power, I even believe that wisdom should be one of the qualities that we ask the Lord the most, because when we have wisdom then we know how to ask God, We know how to submit areas of our life to God, we can teach and edify others, we can interpret the Word of the Lord and extract its teachings from him, and then apply those teachings for Christian growth and also to access the great resources of the Word.

So for me wisdom is one of the most important things, including also for human relationships, for marriage, for finances, for many things wisdom is absolutely essential. And Santiago says: hey ask the Lord. If you find yourself in a difficult situation in your life, of perplexity, of confusion, go to the Lord and ask him for wisdom.

And James says that this is one of the things that the Lord is most willing to give us. When we ask the Lord for wisdom, let us not doubt, is he going to give it or not? we create. James says that God gives abundantly and without reproach. God gives that for all things but in particular for wisdom, as God has a special affection in answering those prayers of His children. In any situation of confusion or dilemma, or that we need special enlightenment, a big decision that we have to make, a spouse that we have to choose with whom we have to marry, or a difficulty of a profession, or what we are going to study, to Where we are going to live, asking the Lord for wisdom and discernment is absolutely essential and we can count on that desire that the Father has to answer our prayer in an abundant way and without sparing.

And Santiago adds that we ask with faith, not doubting. In other words, if we are going to ask the Lord, let us believe that He is more than willing to give it. I have already learned that when I ask the Lord for wisdom He inevitably gives it to me, so I ask Him with great security, and I see that He always answers me in one way or another.

Santiago points out here the importance of faith. When we pray, when we ask the Lord for something, let us be sure to ask him trusting in that generous character of our Father who is willing to respond to our needs. Santiago says: see if you are going to ask the Lord, ask him with confidence, believe that He is willing to answer you. Because if you ask him with doubt, thinking like: oh, let's see if he answers me or not, or thinking: no, He will not answer me, this is too trivial or small or: God is too busy to answer my request, if there is doubt in us that is an obstacle to receive from the Lord.

When we ask the Lord for something we have to be clear that if this is from God I have a Father who is willing to answer my prayer, His character is generous and therefore I can confidently approach the Throne of Grace as the Bible says to receive the timely help that I need. We cannot be ambiguous or ambivalent about anything, not only wisdom but any area of our life, but we have to come with confidence, with boldness, with clarity and conviction to the Father and believe that He will be faithful to answer us if we are asking according to His will.

So let's ask the Lord with confidence and of all the things we can ask Him for wisdom to discern His purpose in all areas and all moments of our life. God bless you.
