Summary: Jesus Christ is not only the Creator and Sustainer of all things, but also the Reconciler of all creation. Through his death on the cross, he brings harmony and order to a world that has been torn apart by sin. This process of reconciliation is ongoing, as the Kingdom of Heaven advances and the forces of good and evil struggle. Ultimately, there will come a day when everything is subject to the Father and creation is in perfect order. Jesus Christ is also at work in our hearts, bringing us into harmony with God and ourselves. The reconciling role of Jesus Christ is a wonderful function that brings hope to a world in conflict.
Jesus Christ is not only the firstborn, the principal of all creation, he is not only the Creator of all that exists, whether visible or invisible, not only is he the Sustainer of all that is created, he is not only the head of the Church, he is not only the head of the body and the firstborn of all the dead but is also the Reconciler of all creation.
The apostle Paul says in Colossians chapter 1 verse 19 that: "The Father was pleased that all fullness should dwell in Jesus" that is, all beauty, all perfection, that Jesus Christ as if he expressed and summarized all the beauty, all the good that exists in the creation. And then he says that: "Not only that but the Father was pleased that Jesus Christ was also the means. Through Him to reconcile all things to himself, both those that are on earth and those that are in heaven, making peace through the blood of His cross. "
Here the apostle Paul is referring to another very important and fundamental function of the person of Jesus, is that Jesus Christ reconciles all things. And to understand this word and this concept of reconciliation, I think we have to go to the very beginnings of the human race when Adam and Eve offend God and disobey God, and then as a consequence of this a dynamic of conflict and conflict is unleashed in the universe. division where man and his Creator are already divided, they are at war.
Where man and woman who once lived in perfect harmony are now also at war. The woman conspires against the man, the man oppresses the woman. Not only that, but man and nature, the earth also enter into war, in conflict where nature that previously gave man its fruit in a natural, spontaneous way, without suffering God says that now man will have to tear him away. the land will have its fruit, it will have to be plowed, it will have to work with sweat and suffering in order to extract its fruits from the earth.
And not only that but it also says that man is going to be divided with himself. Man then is at war, he is alienated, he is alienated from himself. Your mind tells you one thing, your spirit tells you another, your body tells you another, men are at war with each other. It is like that when sin arrived at creation, everything went off its axis and instead of working in unity and in harmony as God had determined with the sin that enters the world, all creation becomes out of adjustment and all the elements that compose it. they go to war with each other.
And then Jesus Christ appears as an element that reconciles all these things and brings them into harmony. We know that this total and definitive harmonization of creation will not take place until the consummation of time arrives and the Lord can unify everything where every knee bows before Jesus Christ, every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord. We are now in an in-between period where the death of Jesus, His work here on Earth, and His Church working on history are at work. The Kingdom of Heaven is advancing trying to put all this in order, right? There is a struggle between the forces of evil, the forces of good, the Kingdom of God, the kingdom of darkness.
But that fight is taking place precisely to bring order to the universe. There will come a day, the Bible says, when the Lord will then hand over all things to the Father and give them to him so that everything is in harmony. Notice what it says in First Corinthians chapter 15 where it says that: "All in a certain order will be resurrected, each in his proper order" 15:23 First Corinthians "Christ the firstfruits, then those who are Christ's at His Coming, then the end when he hands over the Kingdom to God and Father, when he has suppressed "that is, controlled, conquered" Because He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
Then he says: "After all things are subject then the Son himself will also subject himself to the one who subjected all things to Him so that God may be all in all." He is referring to a time when the Son will subdue everything. Death will already be subject, life will be subject, creation, men, governments, all the elements of history will be subject to the Father and then when the Son has completed that process of subjecting everything, everything that is in conflict, everything that rebels against the Son of God then He will take all that as a bundle of order and hand it over to the Father saying: Father I have completed what You told me and now He says then that the Son will recognize the Lordship in a formal way from the Father and then there will be nothing to question, there will be nothing at war with God or with himself and then the world of creation that awaits, says the apostle Paul that day of his liberation will enter into the order of God.
Do you understand then why Paul is saying that God wanted through Him to reconcile all things? When Christ dies on the cross, he is now as if unleashing a principle of order, of reconciliation. All of these elements that were brought into conflict by sin now begin to align with each other and creation then returns to its center and its original order. That is what is happening right now in the universe, that has not yet fully happened but we know that one day it will happen.
We long for a new heaven, a new earth, a state of creation where there is no more death, more wars, more poverty, more oppression, more disorder and violence and governments are subject to Jesus Christ and the Father. That is the order that Christ makes possible and it is what Christ does in our hearts also to unify ourselves with God and with ourselves, with God and with ourselves and with Him when we receive Him as Savior. What a wonderful function the reconciling role of Jesus Christ. God bless you.
