Summary: In Matthew 20:20-28, the mother of two disciples asks Jesus to give them a place of honor in His Kingdom, causing conflict among the disciples. This teaches us that conflicts will always arise in the Church, but we must learn to recognize and deal with them in a way that follows the principles of Scripture. On the God Speaks Today website, it is important to allow freedom of expression while also following principles of decency, generosity, and care for others' sensibilities. By doing so, we can express the love of Christ and avoid conflicts that may turn people away from seeking God.
We see here a situation of conflict that develops between the disciples of Jesus Christ. The mother of these two disciples approaches the Lord with a somewhat strange request, that when the Lord is in His Kingdom, he assign a preferential place to her two children, one on the right and one on the left of the Lord Jesus Christ. < ! - break ->
The passage of Scripture that will serve as a starting point for our meditation is found in the Gospel according to Matthew chapter 20 beginning with verse 20 in fact. It says here that: "The mother of the sons of Sebedee approached Jesus" with her sons "prostrating herself before Him and asking for something. He said to her: what do you want? two children of mine, one on Your right and the other on Your left. "
"Then Jesus answering said to him: You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink from the cup that I am going to drink and be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized? And they said to him: we can. He said to them: You will drink my glass and with the baptism with which I am baptized you will be baptized but to sit at My right and at My left is not mine to give but to those for whom it is prepared by My Father. "
"When the ten other disciples heard this they were angry with the two brothers and then Jesus called them aside and said to them: You know that the rulers of the nations rule over them and those who are great exercise authority over them, but it will not be between you. So, but whoever wants to become great among you will not be so, but whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant and whoever wants to be first among you will be your servant, just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to to serve and to give His life to rescue many. "
Let's start with the fact that when the other disciples find out what these two disciples have done they get angry at them and a fighting situation develops between them. We see here a conflict situation, we see here personal interests interfering with the Ministry of Jesus Christ and of these chosen disciples; We see here that when the flesh interferes, selfishness, personal ambition, not following the legitimate processes to reach prominence and authority in leadership interfere, they intervene in the affairs of the Kingdom of God, difficulties and problems arise for the development of the Ministry.
It is interesting to see that even with the Lord Jesus Christ in their midst the disciples experienced conflict and that is what we have to learn from this passage and that is that conflicts will always be with us, they are part of the life of the Church. We see in the Book of Acts that a conflict situation developed between the Jews of Israel and the Jews who came from Greece and also those who had converted, Gentiles who had entered the Church about the care received by the widows of both groups. and from that conflict arose the establishment of the first deacons in the Church, this is found in the Book of Acts chapter 6.
Conflicts will always be with us, the question is how are we going to solve them? There are other lessons we can take from this passage but I would say one of the most important is this idea of: how can we recognize conflicts, deal with them, neutralize them according to the principles of Scripture and then continue with the stronger ministry never?.
I attach importance to this element because our God Speaks Today website is a page that includes people from many different spiritual backgrounds; Catholics, evangelicals, people who are simply looking for God but do not have any denominational affiliation come to our page and it is very important that we understand that the diversity that we have on our page requires a very benevolent, very peaceful and very wise and intelligent attitude. , it is the only way in which we will be able to avoid conflicts on our page.
It is important that on our page there is freedom for all types of people to express themselves as long as they follow some rules of decency, generosity, care and attention to the sensibilities of others, to express things in an appropriate way; As long as these principles are fulfilled, we will have to allow a diversity of expressions. That diversity of expressions far from impoverishing our page or being a source of bad doctrine or confusion for our readers, I think it can be enriching.
I believe that most of the people who read our page are quite mature Christians who are clear in their position and it is known that the people who express their positions on our page do not necessarily have the endorsement or being sponsored by our organization but are simply believers or faith seekers who are enriching each other through the thoughts and reflections they include on our page.
Meanwhile we will have to be very tolerant of each other, express the love of Jesus, be solicitous as the Word says in keeping the bond of peace and not allowing conflicting, unkind expressions to appear on our page that make us feel bad. to those people who come with the best intention of seeking God and expressing their thoughts freely through our page.
In this way the love of Christ is well expressed and in this way conflicts are avoided. And many more then can enter our page, hear from the Lord, listen to the voices of truth that our brothers emit and be blessed and get closer to the Lord Jesus Christ.
We will continue with our meditation and in the next thought that we will have with you, we will continue to develop this beautiful and important event that Matthew chapter 20 expresses to us. May the Lord bless you and until our next broadcast, Roberto Miranda says goodbye to you.
