Summary: Throughout history, false groups and sects have tried to question the deity of Jesus Christ in an attempt to lower His status and importance in the Christian faith. The Bible defends and emphasizes the deity and glory of Jesus in many passages, including Colossians 1:15-20 where Paul declares Jesus to be the very image of the invisible God. It is important to never give in to erroneous teachings that deny the deity of Jesus and to understand the power and lordship that comes with believing in Him. Only a being who is God himself could do all the things that we depend on Jesus to do.

Many false groups, many false sects through the centuries - even Christian sects - have tried to question the deity of Jesus. One of the things that the enemy will always try to do is lower the status, the stature of Jesus because Satan knows that if he succeeds in overthrowing Jesus from his central position in the Christian faith he will be dealing a mortal blow to our faith.

So we see many times that false groups through the centuries have tried to lower the stature of Jesus and that is why the Bible is so insistent over and over again in presenting that true nature, that deity of Jesus Christ. We see that in the first century the Christian Church fought to the death with a heresy called Gnosticism that again tried to present Jesus Christ as simply a lesser being, as one of many different gods that existed in creation and that also dealt with putting in a lot of rituals and teachings, taking care of holidays and meals, and not getting married and getting into a lot of speculation about gods that were in the upper atmosphere and a lot of things that took Jesus away from His true importance and His deity.

And so the Bible in many passages defends in a very clear way this central importance and above all this glorious and divine character of the person of Jesus. And that is why we see here then where the apostle Paul is saying that Jesus is the very image of the invisible God, he is saying it not only as a neutral statement but also as a defensive and controversial statement against anyone who tries to take away His deity and His Glory. to Jesus.

In our own times we have had heresies like that of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Very good people, very serious that I do not doubt that they love God but they have been deceived with a teaching that Jesus Christ is not God but that he is simply the highest and most exalted creature that God created and that he is not eternal but was created at some point, sometime in eternity but was not in existence for all eternity.

And so the Bible clearly tries to correct those erroneous teachings and that is why it is so important that we never give in regarding that deity of Jesus Christ, it is something absolutely central that the apostle Paul is going to be teaching over and over, and over. once in this passage. I'm going to be insisting a lot on that because it seems to me that depending on what we believe about Jesus, our faith in Him, our trust in Him, our understanding of the power that exists in the Name of Jesus Christ, His Person, will result.

When the Bible says, for example, that Christ was given a name that is above every name so that before Christ every knee of what is in heaven, on earth and under the earth bows before Christ, it is again declaring the lordship of Jesus. When we find ourselves in trial situations, when we are facing demonic powers, attacks from the devil, difficult situations in our life, when we have to ask the Father in the Name of Jesus Christ it is important that we know that we are doing all these transactions based on a person who is God himself, who has the power to grant us those victories that we need, those answers, those solutions that we need.

We have to believe that He is seeing our lives, that He is aware of who we are, that He can see the reality of each individual no matter how many ask Him, that He has the power to know the beginning and the end, that He he knows all the secrets of the world and that he can diagnose all the errors and all the defects of this creation and that he can also give the solution to all those things. No one could do all the things that we depend on Jesus to do unless he was not God and that is why it is so important that we always uphold that central doctrine of deity and power, and the matchless glory of Jesus Christ.
