Summary: The apostle Paul celebrates the loving community of believers in Colosse and asks the Holy Spirit to provide them with spiritual nutrients that instill powerful and beautiful qualities. This community of believers supports and encourages each other, which brings joy to the Holy Spirit and invites blessings. Similarly, in the God Speaks Today community, believers from all over the world are loving and supporting each other, which is a burnt offering of praise to God. This international community should be woven around the principle of Christian love and mutual love for one another. The focus should be on the person of Jesus Christ, and the meditations should center on Him.
If we aspire to be powerful, vigorous and fruitful believers, we need to focus on the person of Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul begins by saying in Colossians 1: 9: "Therefore we also from the day we hear it we do not stop praying for you and asking that you be filled with the knowledge of His Will in all wisdom and spiritual intelligence. "
When the apostle Paul says from the day we heard him he is referring to the attitude of these brothers from Colosse. The apostle Paul says that they are people who are filled with the love of God and the love of the Holy Spirit. In verse 8 the apostle Paul speaks of Epaphras a servant of the Lord who seems to have been the founder of the Church of Colosse and says that: "Brother Epaphras has declared your love to us in the Spirit."
So the apostle Paul is celebrating that loving community that exists in Colosse. And Paul when he heard from this church planter that that community in Colosse that he possibly never visited but that Church is full of the love of God, Paul is filled with joy and then that joy that he feels for these brothers who are living a life of love and harmony is moved by God to ask that this community continue to grow and be blessed.
And Paul asks that the Holy Spirit provide that community with a series of, let's say, spiritual nutrients that instill in them a series of very powerful and beautiful qualities that are very important for every believer and every community of faith. By the way I want to tell you that one of the things that makes me enjoy the most when I read the responses to our meditations on God Speaks Today is seeing how God is forging a community of believers who are supporting each other through their prayers, advice that they give each other words of encouragement, even words of correction but done in a very generous and very courteous and delicate way.
And how God is truly forging between you a precious dialogue and a sense that: you know what? We are part of a body and we must pray for each other, intercede for each other, instruct each other and that gives me great joy and then encourages me to ask that the Holy Spirit continue to forge that sense of love and fellowship, and body in this community of God Speaks Today.
Because that is what motivates pastors and I know that this is what motivates Heavenly Father also when God sees his children loving each other, supporting, building each other, interceding for each other the Holy Spirit he rejoices and then sends blessing and as Psalm 133 says: "For there Jehovah sends blessing and eternal life when the brothers dwell together in harmony."
So when Paul hears from Epaphras that these brothers are co-existing in love and harmony, he then says that he is motivated not to stop praying for them, this pastor who is Paul then feels encouraged to intercede for them. Let us remember this brothers of the community God Speaks Today, God is telling us: continue loving each other, supporting each other, cultivating this sense of community, weaving this dialogue that glorifies the Father. Imagine how joyful the Holy Spirit feels at this moment when believers from: Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Austria, Switzerland, France even from the Middle East, a brother who writes to us from Japan and from so many other parts of the world they are loving one another what a burnt offering of praise it is to God! may this extremely international community be woven around this principle of Christian love and mutual love for one another.
So I want to encourage this because I know that it will motivate the Holy Spirit then to do great things in that community of God Speaks Today. God bless you and remember that we will continue to meditate on the person of Jesus. All of this is geared toward focusing on the person of Jesus Christ. See you soon and until our next meditation I say goodbye to you Pastor Roberto Miranda, God bless you.
