Summary: Prayer for children is a duty of every parent, regardless of their spiritual condition. Children are God's blessing and it's our responsibility to accompany them through all their itineraries. Prayer for children is pleasant incense to the Lord and the father and mother who pray with a clean heart before God are more than blessed. No matter the condition or need of our children, we should commit them to God and trust that He will do His will in their lives.
Have children? Children are God's blessing. When we are in Christ we understand even more this great truth. Children are like an extension of our being; We see them grow, walk, stumble in life and we feel duplicated our feelings of love, sorrow, compassion, a solidarity towards them that overcomes all fear. When we see them happy, we are happy, if we see them suffer, the world is upon us.
There is an Arabic proverb that says: "Children are more like their generation than their parents." This is a half-truth, but there is definitely some truth in it and we cannot completely prevent our children from claiming, with little effort on their part and despite our advice that they live in the fear of God, that complacent air. , which makes them human - and Christian - who live their own time and who cannot escape trends, fashions and other currents of their generation. Especially when they are teenagers. For that and many other reasons, prayer for children is a duty of every parent.
How to understand the colossal act of God to give his only son so that humanity could be reconciled to Him? It's incomprehensible. We can never understand it. Let us imagine the Father for a moment giving his Son to death on the cross, or Abraham with the raised knife to unload it on the beloved son, let us hear again the cry of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane a few hours after his death doing the prayer for his children, the disciples of then and the disciples of today (John 17). Can you imagine putting your only child through such a test just to assert God's will? Thinking about it only moves us and squeezes our hearts.
The truth is that it does not matter the spiritual condition of you or your children to pray for their lives, their salvation, their spiritual growth. If you are already a Christian, then how good! Even so, you will always need the prayer of the parents. I personally imagine that our heavenly Father must be pleased to listen with pleasure and attentive ears to the prayer that emanates from the best feelings of parents for their children. He did not deliver them one day and we have the responsibility to accompany them through all their itineraries, although their attitudes and rebellions sometimes hurt. I have personally witnessed young lives that seemed spoiled and hopeless for their families and society, and they have been raised by the fervent and permanent prayer of a father or a mother, or of the two together, who have put down the skin on his knees crying out to God for spiritual favors for his children.
For some years now, in many churches in my country a powerful ministry has arisen in which our Lord rejoices by performing miracles and pouring out his Spirit of piety wherever the call to implement it has been heard. It's called "Fathers and Mothers Who Pray for Their Children." It is beautiful to see brothers and sisters of all ages being ministered to by the Spirit in full cry for their children. There the testimonies speak of healing the wounded, of freedom for the captive, of restoration of marriages, of repentant prodigal children, of reunions with God, of forgiveness and humiliation, of crying out for the children who are still lost, of granted jobs, of childbirth. miraculous and above all of gratitude to the one who works all things. Prayer for children is pleasant incense to the Lord. The father and mother who pray with a clean heart before God are more than blessed.
Pray for your children, no matter their condition or need. Christ also died for them, loves them more than we can. Commit them to Him and He will do. Our children may resemble their generation but it depends largely on us that they become more like God every day. God bless you!
