It's not about the tithe

Summary: Churches grow and advance through the generosity of their members. Studies show that 20% of the people give 80% of the money and do 80% of the work in most churches. Generosity is a grace from God and those who give cheerfully are praised in the Bible. Tithing is not the main issue, but giving generously and extravagantly to the Lord is, according to the New Testament. God blesses those who give and open their hearts to Him, regardless of their financial situation.

Churches advance and grow through generous-hearted people. Many studies have been done on the churches, and a principle that generally governs many other areas of humanity has been discovered. This is the 20-80 principle. In the case of churches it is as follows: In most churches, 20% of the people give 80% of the money. Similarly, 20% do 80% of the work, etc.

There is a group of people who stand out for being generous. Many times, these people have been financially blessed. Sometimes one wonders: "Which comes first, the chicken or the egg?" Are they blessed because they have been generous, or are they generous because they have been blessed? I believe that generally the generous person is going to be blessed. And I have seen that continuously, that in the church there is a correlation: God blesses people who are detached, who are giving, who are always the first to say present when there is a need in the church, or when a project arises that is going to take place.

Don't wait to be blessed to give. Give, and you will inevitably be blessed.

Be you of that chosen twenty percent. Don't lean on the generosity of others. Give according to your ability, and give even beyond your ability.

In the Bible, Second Corinthians chapter 8 talks about the Macedonian believers. In verse 1, he says, "... Likewise, brethren, we let you know the grace of God that has been given to the churches of Macedonia."

Look at that, the grace of God fell on these believers and therefore they gave. Giving is a grace, a favor, even, that comes from God. ".... That in great trial of tribulation the abundance of his joy and his deep poverty abounded in the riches of his generosity."

There are people who say, “I am too poor to tithe. I have too much need. People who have money can do that ”. You are not understanding the most important thing, if you reason that way. What God asks is that you give 10% of what you have, not what you don't have. He who has a lot gives 10% of how much he has. He who has very little gives 10% of the very little he has. In that way, both give, and both are blessed.

And these people, the Macedonians, gave, not because they were rich, but, he says, "that out of their deep poverty they abounded in riches of generosity."

See what great praise these people receive. It says, "... for I bear witness that I gladly ...". The Bible declares that God loves a cheerful giver. When you give, do not give looking at that little money that goes out of your hands with a terrible sadness, watching the pesos gain wings and leave. Give with a joyful heart. Give with a bold heart. Shout, Hallelujah, because God is allowing you to be his partner here on earth, and because He promises to unleash His blessing on your finances, your job, and every other aspect of your life.

"... They have given according to their strength, with pleasure, and even beyond their strength." People say, “Well, what is this tithing thing? Should we give or not? " Others say, “I don't believe in tithing because that is from the Old Testament. Under Grace, it is not necessary to tithe ”. Well, let's put it that way for a moment, that the tithe was only for the Old Testament. What I see in the New Testament is that those who give sacrificially are always praised, those who give beyond their strength. That is why Jesus praised the widow; for this he praised the Macedonians; That is why the woman who anointed Jesus with a very expensive perfume is praised; That is why Jesus Christ is praised in Philippians 2.

Whenever God praises someone who gives, He praises the generous, extravagant person.

Paul says "he who sows bountifully will reap bountifully." The question is not whether we should tithe. The real question is whether we are giving to the Lord generously, extravagantly. If you don't believe in tithing then I'm going to propose something to you: Give as the Bible says, according to your strength and beyond your strength. And you know what? Then you will have to give more than the tithe. I'd rather keep the tithe than have to continually give beyond my strength. Choose what you want, however. Choose to tithe or always give beyond your strength.

What God wants is for us to be generous to Him, to be joyful in giving, to be almost reckless in our generosity to Him. When we do so, we open the heart of God, and He rains down the blessing until it overflows over our lives. .
