Summary: In this passage, Jesus decides to go to where Marta and MarÃa Juan live, despite knowing that there are people who want to harm him. The disciples are afraid and advise against it, but Jesus knows that he is in the perfect Will of the Father and is not afraid of men's plans to harm him. He walks in the light of God and is invincible. The lesson is to always walk in the Will of God and trust in His love and power.
When the Lord finally decides to go to where Marta and MarÃa Juan live, he indirectly informs us that there are people who want to harm Jesus because He represents a threat to their religious, personal institutional interests. And when the Lord says: let's go there, the disciples who are always thinking on the human level, right? Many times we do not understand God's plan and we worry about minor things and for God those are totally insignificant things.
But because they don't understand Jesus' power and sovereignty, and God's total control over their plans and over the life of Jesus, they are frightened. They say: but Lord, suffering awaits us there, there are people who want to hurt you and maybe even kill you, right? The Lord however knows that He is in the perfect Will of the Father, He is in a script that the Lord has established. He is perfectly synchronized with the Will of the Father, He knows that all these threats, death and suffering that awaits him, everything is a sovereign plan that God has over His life and His ministry.
And therefore He is not afraid of men's plans to harm Him. He knows that even these same men who want to harm Him are being used by God to advance the saving plan that God has for humanity and that His Son has to die, and that these men who want to harm Him are actually a sinister instrument, that God is using to carry out His sovereign purposes.
So the Lord is not concerned with what these people are up to because He knows that this is part of God's control over all events in history. The disciples do not know this and that is why they fear and do not want to go there, and they want to advise the Lord to do the opposite. Many times God's plans to be fulfilled involve sinister, dark elements of terrible suffering, many times even death and we here on Earth only see the simply human, earthly part and that is why we fear.
Oh if we could soar to the heights from where God sees history, our life, what is to happen in the future, our relationships with other people, our children, the future generations of our life, how would the anxiety level be lowered knowing that God is sovereign, that He has a plan, that He is moving things forward as He wants.
And that is why I believe that the response of the Lord Jesus, He says: does not the day have twelve hours? meaning the time of light in a day, it is more or less twelve hours. He says: if I walk in the light, what do I have to fear? I don't have to fear. What is the light in which the Son of God walks?
For me that light is first His holiness, His integrity, His good works, His total subjection to the Will of the Father, His flow according to God's purposes in His life, His total obedience to the Lord, the power of God. This is the light in which the Lord Jesus Christ walks and therefore He says: hey I am not afraid. If I am in the light, in the Will of my Father, in His good purposes, His control, why fear? If I walk in the light I am safe from any nefarious plan that men may have.
How good brothers it is to walk in the Will of God. May our life always be clearly subject and within the framework of the divine Will because that makes us inviolable. Although men want to harm us, we can be safe, we can be calm, confident, God is in control, what can man do to me? If God loves me, the one who loves me is more powerful than the one who is in the world. If God is with me and I walk in the light of God, His truth, His justice, I do not have to fear the plots of men.
May that faith be ours at all times, that trust. God is with me and I will not fear what man can do to me. I walk in the light and in the Will of God, therefore I am invincible and Satan has no power over my life. May God bless you and may that assurance of the love and power of God with you, of the light of God that illuminates your life, are always part of your existence. Pastor Roberto Miranda says goodbye to you, until next time.
