Summary: We often hear God speak at night because our hearts are less distracted by the noise of the day. In our darkest moments, we may feel like we have lost the ability to hear God, but He never stops speaking to us. We need to be more attentive to His voice and not let the distractions of life cover it up. The nights of our lives may be filled with fear and uncertainty, but if we remain in communion with God, we can find peace and guidance. The star that shone on the first Christmas continues to shine, leading us to the manger where we can receive the gift of God's love.
Today I was listening to a song and a verse read: " Here I am Lord, here I am Lord, I have heard you speak at night < / a> ... "And my spirit was moved and the question arose: Why, Lord, do we almost always hear you speak at night? Is it that during the day our hearts are so full of noise that we cannot hear your sweet voice?
It is at night when we best listen to the voice of God, simply because we believe that at night is when we really need to hear it. As the psalmist said: "When I remember you in my bed, When I meditate on you in the watches of the night." Salt 63.6
Ah! The nights of our life ... Those in which we lose hope and it seems that everything is collapsing around us. Those that fill our hearts with terror due to the uncertainty that they imprint on our soul that it has stopped listening to the voice of God even though He has never stopped speaking to us. “My heart was stunned, horror has intimidated me; the night of my desire turned to horror. " Isa 21.4
It is then that we realize how immersed we were in the banalities of earthly life and how we have been forgetting that one day, in such a distant place, God gave us a light that would illuminate us permanently so that we would never have dark nights and painful days, but days of radiant sunshine, so that we would never lose sight of the road. Our Star, our Water, our Bread, our Abundant Life, a strong rock to which we cling in the midst of the storm.
But we let ourselves be covered at night, because that's how we are, foolish, negligent to take care of what God put in our hands… in our hearts. Our nights that do not have a reason, because if we sharpen our senses well, we will realize that He has never left, if we do not listen to Him it is because we do not pay attention, if we do not see Him it is because we do not pay attention, if we do not we find it is because we are not looking for it.
But in the night of our lives we do cry out to him and his fidelity is so great that he is reborn again in the manger of our hearts. It does not matter how many times at dawn we turn in search of "personal interests", when we should "Announce your mercy in the morning, And your fidelity each night" Ps 92.2. But, He knows us and still loves us.
And the nights will always return, over the years and if we know how to take advantage of our time on this earth, they will grow more slowly, especially because we will be better prepared if we remain in Him and maintain communion even though the day is clear and radiant. But, we must be prepared, covered with the armor of God, so that the night does not take us unnoticed and enough oil in our lamps so as not to be disoriented (Cant 3.8)
Even at night, the star that shone that first Christmas continues to shine, we just have to be good observers and we will see it in all its splendor, shining, as it once did to take us to the manger to receive the supreme gift of God.
